Buying Old Apple Products and Why I Do It

This was never my intention.

Then why was 2010 important? 2010 wasn't even a good apple year. 2010 MBA was considered the last year it was still awful before becoming a good product in 2011. iPad 1 was really rushed and rough, didn't become worthy of looking into till iPad 2.

And iPhone 4S is literally an iPhone 4 except better specs across the board.

What in the world is special about 2010 then? It isn't the last products under Steve. And All 3 products were far superior in 2011, just 1 year later.

-COOLIO- is right. Also, I agree.

good sir, i applaud your efforts to save money by not giving into new tech hype.

that said, i would suggest going for year-old tech in the future. that's generally the sweet spot in terms of used stuff when it comes to value/cost ratios.

either way, enjoy your new gadgets. i hope they serve you well.

I can't even imagine going back to a 4. A 4s, if it was necessary, but a 4 would be torture.

Are those old Airs SSD-enabled? I remember updating to Lion (I think) on a non-SSD Pro and it was so slow I ended up selling it and buying a new one. Horrible.

I'm starting to question the honesty of some of your posts.

If his plan was to get the last products under Steve he failed as well.

iPad 2 in 2011 came out under Jobs. In fact Jobs led that press conference. Know what else came out under Jobs time as CEO? The 2011 MacBook Air. As for the iPhone 4S? Yes Jobs retired in August of 2011 before passing away that fall. However the iPhone 4S was already in mass production prior to him retiring.

You want the last products fully finished and released under Steve Jobs reign as CEO You are off by a year.

Even better, he says that was the perfect product line in the design department...... when the 4S looks exactly the same, and Macbook Air looks the same every year....

Edit: I see you pointed out the same

OP, the only problem I see with your plan is that you paid 600$ for old tech that is extremely overpriced. If it wasn't for the fact that you are so set on apple's ecosystem I would've honestly recommended getting a moto g and a windows laptop for 500$ like this. This would've cost you 70$ more but you'd be getting a 100x better phone and laptop. Plus I understand that apple products retain their value but 5 year old laptops selling for 500$ is simply outrageous and the iphone 4 for 110$? You're kidding me right.

If you aren't able to get your orders cancelled and your usage isn't extremely heavy I do think that you would be fine with the things you've chosen. I too was using a 7 year old laptop until late last year and an insanely dumb chinese no brand phone up till 2013. After using my new computer its really hard to go back to my laptop but it still does a great job of browsing the internet and basic productivity. Sure its awfully slow (something I hadn't realized fully until I got my new PC) but it does get the job done.

As long as you're happy OP, that's the most important thing. But what happened to your S5, since you are now using a RAZR?

lol. so wait, this was just some Android fan trolling? smh

I mean:

Just ordered one of these things from eBay. Can't wait to jump from my RAZR phone I've had all these years. It's finally time. :)

jumping after 'all these years'...other than the smartphone you were using two months ago.

UPDATE!!!

IN A SMASHING TURN OF EVENTS, I FOUND A 2010 MACBOOK PRO WITH 4 GB OF RAM ANDROID AN INTEL CORE I5 PROCESSOR!

My plan: Update to a 256 GB SD and install 16 GB of ram!

So now I need recommendations for that and where to buy online. Order has been canceled on the MacBook air!!!!

Eh, it's not that bad. I bought a Powerbook G4 in 2011-- the last one before the Intel processors -- for a very good price on eBay. It was old, a bit slow, and the battery was shot, but ye gods, I got my money's worth out of that thing.

Flash sucked on it, though.

Similarly you can get a 1st generation Mac Pro, and the community around that thing is so strong, there are multiple ways to upgrade the operating system and graphics card to near modern levels. True, it's brickwalled at PCI 1.x, but a 8-core with a X5355 processor upgrade will geekbench in the neighborhood of a higher-end computer from 2012 or thereabouts, and most of them sell with lots of RAM.

Er an Android powered Macbook?

Wtf?

Flash blew even on my G5 Quad 2.5ghz x4. I think Adobe just never did proper optimization until Intel Macs. Funny enough the move to HTML5 is actually making PPC Macs more viable than they used to be the last few years since raw h264 is way better without running through a Flash wrapper.

PPC users should check out TenFourFox for an up-to-date browser (the only one) that even supports WebMs.

Don't listen to their lies. You are what is right with the world. Fight the system. No one needs to buy new tech every five years.

Is this a mini protest or something?

Why is 2010 so important to you? If you want to really "fight the power", you should ditch technology altogether.

I still have an iPhone 4. It still works well enough that I haven't seriously considered upgrading, nor do I plan to for a while.

This is partially the reason. The main reason is that I personally felt that 2010 had the strongest product line. I loved the designs of the products of that time more than those of today. With iPhone 4, I don't have a massive brick in my pocket. HATE the large smartphone trend.

I have an iPhone 4S sitting on my desk (I would have given it to you for free, btw) and I have an iPhone 6. The 6 is a fraction the thickness and weight of the 4S, in spite of the larger screen. You're either trolling or delusional.

Do they accept returns on the auction, OP? You should not have said "I'm ok either way", because they got the better end of this deal and know it.

I'm sorry, man. I'm not gonna tell you how to spend your money, but this is not something I would pursue. iPhone 5c is cheap as hell and far better than a 4. I had an iPhone 4 and it was great at the time but they've made strides since then and they're basically unsupported with software at this point.

I genuinely hope you don't get stuck with that macbook air.
