Buying Old Apple Products and Why I Do It

What horse?! Just want to prove that I will be using the products I've been wanting to have since 2008

so you've wanted a 2010 macbook since 2008 and you wanted an iphone 4 since 2008 so when 2014 rolled around you picked up a brand new s5 and then kept it for a little bit but that was a stop gap for your real dream of owning shit from 2010

well i ride it to work, of course.

lol the air screen is so bad in direct sunlight. childgrime everywhere. ;(

Thread has been saved.

You are officially my favorite Gaffer now.

You still haven't answered what it is about 2010 you have a fascination with
I don't think we can collectively bear the burden of knowing exactly why time stopped in the year 2010 for this person, lets just leave the past in the past man, let it be

ohhhh shit just got real

Okay, i'm out of the Apple ecosystem, but...
A five year old laptop straight-up struggling with browsing?
Is this the reality for Apple users? Are there timebombs or something inside the things?
I mean, i've got a 2008 CPU in one of the computers at home (i7-920, though) and the thing is a goddamn lightning.
My samsung laptop that's before 2010 (But i can't find the model atm, it's at work) is also a lightning, admittedly running on linux.

My windows computer from 2009 works fine. But it's also a desktop. And overclocked. Something from 2010 that was gimped to be thin sounds like a terrible idea.

Fuckin'A!

"troll of the month" = people calling BS on your horse since the beginning. The only amazing part of the thread is that you aren't banned.

I'd be happy to explain my impetus. PM me if you care.

On topic: I do think the MBA 2010 has a pretty easy battery replacement if you have the right screwdrivers. It isn't glued down thank god. But like everybody said you have gone with a 2011, it's insane not to.

Wanted to be a nice brother. She dropped her old phone and it was out of warranty.

Can't wait to slam these people calling me out on being a troll next week when I show them the goods.

Looking forward to it. Just don't get banned in the meantime.

He said it's persoanl reasons but who knows ?

From the OP:
2010 was a great year for Apple and they had some really strong products. They had the flagship MacBook Air product that redefined what it meant to be ultra portable by combing elements of iPad and iPhone to the the notebook computer. They had the revolutionary iPhone 4 which featured a beautiful stunning retina display and glass front and back design. They also had the original iPad which you can enjoy consuming media such as books and movies at a pleasureful pace.

the logic here seems to be: if it was good in 2010 then it's still good now

Instead of buying a decent, usable phone like the new Moto E and a Surface Pro 2 or something, which will be better than whatever you might be getting with that at the same price, you decided to buy old trash that won't perform.
As an example, I had an iPhone 4 and it's now in the garbage because it's a piece of shit that lags when you open anything. So... have fun, I guess. Also, I'm preeeeeeetty sure you lie.

But he's using all of these fantastical buzz words that have no meaning and they were all first runs of products that had tremendously better versions just one year after.

Just doesn't seem like a good enough explanation. He must have some sort of life event that happened in 2010, but at the same time it's technology that has already been improved 3+ times over since all of that stuff was like barely taking advantage of 64 bit yet

You bought an iPhone 4?

...

I hope it's a second wave edition for your sake otherwise enjoy the phone reception, and no, I'm not talking about the act of you receiving the phone.

video's legit.

doug_and_nicole should be really happy, then.

pretty cool.

keep doing what you're doing, OP

(what are you filming with? lemme guess, a 2010 point-and-shoot?)

JUST to make sure you guys know this is legit...

OP, I kind of feel sorry for you if you thought that was good value and all you got was a negative response from this thread.
As i said before, I hope you will still enjoy your computer and phone regardless of what everyone thinks.

But, I and other posters are still wondering: why were you looking for products from the year 2010 particularly? You might say I'm curious (I am) but you said too much or you haven't said enough.... Can you please tell us ?

Oh god, is he just concerned with getting products Steve Jobs personally released? This is getting sadder.

has been quoted before. Something along the lines of 2010 being a year where Apple really pushed devices forward, with the iPhone 4 sporting a (for the time) ridiculous high PPI count and the MacBook Air being the king of ultrabooks. (that's just me loosely transcribing, too lazy to look up the original quote)

Oh god, is he just concerned with getting products Steve Jobs personally released? This is getting sadder.

This is partially the reason. The main reason is that I personally felt that 2010 had the strongest product line. I loved the designs of the products of that time more than those of today. With iPhone 4, I don't have a massive brick in my pocket. HATE the large smartphone trend.

I am also the guy who USED to own the clamshell iBook G3, Newton eMate 300, and PowerMac G3. I said this was my first mac, that is untrue if you look at it from that stand point.

Seriously I do hope for your sake that the iPhone 4 you bought isn't version 1 of the phone.

In case you're unfamiliar:

"version 1"? there was no revision of the iPhone 4, unless you count the CDMA version for verizon.
I bought the iPhone 4 at release and it's still being used by the person i sold it to when i got my iPhone 5. Antennagate was overblown media hysteria, nothing more, nothing less. Sorry to burst your bubble.

How's bendgate doing nowadays? Or scuffgate?

the 4 is actually one of the brickiest phones Apple made.
the 3GS before it and the 5 and 5S were a lot lighter than the 4 and 4S

thanks but I was the one who quoted it !
I'm still wondering because OP later stated it was for "personal reasons" but didn't say what. It's puzzling.

Uh, no. It was a real issue that was extremely easy to duplicate on anybody's phone.

Was referring to the GSM/CMDA revision, it had a different antenna design, there was also a third revision released in 2011.

Batterygate (4S), Scuffgate (5) and bendgate (6+) were minor incidental annoyances compared to the very real technical faults in the design of the iPhone 4 antenna. It could be replicated on any one of those phones.

Yeah, sure. If you wanted to make it happen, of course you could - especially on shitty AT&T networks.
just like you can bend your iPhone if you want to bend it.

afaik there is no GSM/CMDA revision. There was one specifically made for verizon, and yes, it had the antenna construction that the 4S also used. The GSM iPhone 4(no S) didn't undergo any antenna redesign, contrary to conspiracy theories.
