Buying Old Apple Products and Why I Do It

As long as you're happy OP, that's the most important thing. But what happened to your S5, since you are now using a RAZR?

So my Samsung Galaxy S5 is now running Lollipop for a pure nexus-like experience. This is the stuff dreams are made of, my galaxy breatheren:

I've been really impressed with the battery life on my Galaxy S5. Seriously. Wow. And just to clarify, this is just light usage. Google Maps navigation, browsing GAF, tweeting... yeah basic things like that.

Is there no one who agrees with the way I think? I can do basic things with the devices I bought. Web browsing, emailing, take photos, iPhoto, iMovie, garageband... that's all I really need. The devices will be running their original operating systems so speed will not be an issue.

Provided you beef up the RAM and the HDD, you'll be ok with 4 year old hardware, but the problem with the Air is that you can't upgrade the RAM and HDD yourself. You'll be ok with the iPhone. Just don't upgrade to iOS 8.

My iMac gets regular use, despite being from 2008.

Technology needs to slow the fuck down. :/ Upgrading a huge ordeal for me in the first place. Remember, I still have a RAZR phone.

Oh... you're fucking with us.

It's because he is trolling.

awww, this is why we can't have nice things :(
You sir are the master. I thought I had the troll of the month.

/Rides off on Grendel into the sunset.

the difference is, only 5% believed your shitty horse story, while plenty of people actually bought OP's, here.

My laptop is an HP Envy 14 from 2011, cost me $850 back then. Still runs fast.

Thing is, I replaced my hdd with a 250gb ssd last year. Also, it has 4gb of RAM and an Intel i5 dual core CPU, I think a "sandy bridge". Regular laptops age better than ultrabooks because they dont have to skimp on parts to fit or meet a low power profile. That 4 year old i5 may not compare to the current intel lineup, but its still plenty for me. And I guarantee my laptop runs way better than your 2010 MBA will, even though its only one year newer.

All that said, no way I could sell this thing today for $500. Maybe not even half that. Even factoring in the "Apple Tax", you overpaid.

See another benefit to buying old tech is that any replacement parts are cheaper and accessories are also cheaper. If i need a new iPhone 4 or Macbook Air battery, they are cheap! Good as new.

You are such a troll. Neither of these batteries are considered to be user serviceable parts. I feel like you are pointing out such glaring errors in your logic to spark further debate.

The list of equipment needed to 'safely' perform a battery replacement on an MBA is pretty extensive, mainly due to the chance of the battery catching on fire if there is any existing damage to it or done to it during the replacement procedure.

There is a reason it is considered non-serviceable. Granted you could grab a pentalobe driver and attempt to do this yourself, and probably 99 out of 100 times everything would go fine. But still, the chance is there.

Judging your purchasing logic, you would probably be better off paying some dude on eBay $500 and purchasing another used 2010 MBA in the event your battery fails.

I have a 2009 aluminium macbook here if you want to buy that? Core2Duo and a 9400m with 4GB ram.

With the latest OS it takes TWENTY MINUTES to boot and another 5 to start an app. I just bought my dad a £200 PC laptop to replace it.

If this isn't trolling then you got done buying that laptop, you could have got a 2012 model for around that price that would still perform well today.

I specifically waited until the 2011 Air when my old Powerbook died in late 2010. The reason being that the 2010 model sucked ass. I still use it for flights and minor use. But a 2010? Hell no.

As for IP4, it was a nice phone at the time, but for the price a 4S seems the obvious choice. A 5 is just a bit more too.

I could respect the OP if he was going for a PowerPC Mac or something that supported OS 9 for nostalgia sake. But just a low-end Core2Duo junker? Meh.

For $500 you could have bought a new Toshiba that would rip that MacBook Air to shreds. But it's your money so do with it as you please. I would just do plenty of research before purchasing anything at that price.

Wanted to be a nice brother. She dropped her old phone and it was out of warranty.

Can't wait to slam these people calling me out on being a troll next week when I show them the goods.

Than you're a troll throwing around his money for internet attention.

Yeah ok.

Call me when there's a picture of a Macbook Air and a Horse.

You are buying old current day apple products, and you are over paying for it.

I was hoping this was a apple II or Newton collecting thread

Was I really a bit too dreamy about all this? I just had a 2010 collection on my desk in my mind. I wanted to have some good portables for a cheap price.

OP now looking to square the circle by purchasing a horse born in 2010 for 250% market value

Better post the papers too, no counterfeit shenanigans

His computers can't handle that...in fact I bet he would like a 25 PPP on here.
Ice burn bro damn that was cold

You still haven't answered what it is about 2010 you have a fascination with
