Call of Duty: Ghosts online multiplayer discussion thread

The camping in this game is horrible as well as the spawns. All people care about is K/D ratio and nothing more. Even in objective games like Domination, they don't even cap flags, but just go around at your spawn and rack up kills.

I thought Cranked was immune to this but yesterday had 3 games where the other team forfeited after we started to own their camping ass. Also, I don't know how many times my killstreak got ruined because I couldn't find someone in time before I blew up.

The only way to combat this is to camp yourself and I feel shitty doing this.

Am I right in seeing no way to manage your clan on the web any more? That's so silly. I don't have an iPhone or Android so there is no way to manage my clan.

This has been thrown around ever since I can remember. I really doubt it's because people care about their K/D.

Most people have around 1 K/D or less, which is garbage if they care about it. Most people camp because they are bad or really enjoy to play that way.

I've seen far too many people with 2 or 3 K/D ratios. I'll even drop names. SavageFx on 360 is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. He has no problem going 40+ in Domination only to lose by 75 or more.

After spending more time with the game my thoughts haven't changed.
The maps are just not good. They're not fun to play on, and are completely terrible in terms of competitive balance and design. Almost every single map could be made drastically better by removing all the clutter and simplifying the layout. People with horrible, overly campy playstyles are just about the only people to reap the benefits from these maps. And this is all without mentioning the spawns. Oh god, these spawns. I can't even come up with something bad enough to compare the spawn system to. Search and Rescue is the only gametype I consistently dominate in because I can simply use skill and awareness to win and not worry about people constantly spawning all around me.
Also, The lack of Hardpoint or CTF and the lack of a league play option really kills the longevity of the game for me.

It's a shame because I really want to like Ghosts. The base gameplay feels great, much better than MW3 or Blops 2, and I quite like how the game is more centered on gunplay and less on killstreaks. Hopefully they learn something from this and I'd love to see them fix these awful spawns and add in Hardpoint.

Also, KD really doesn't mean much about the player's actual skill level. Most pro players won't have a kd higher than 3.0. Whenever I see some random players with a 3.0+ kd, it just says to me that they either camp their asses off, or play almost exclusively with a team, and aren't necessarily good at the game.

Just downloaded an update for PS4 - 746MB. Anyone know what it does?

The new update adds the Broadcaster Mode, which allows eSports players to stream with a specific – CODCaster-like mode. The update also introduces new eSports rules for Call of Duty: Ghosts. New rules are accessible in the private match section, with specific game types.

So the spawns are still terrible on PC, even though in the patch notes it said there had been improvements made, a guy literally spawned in front of my eyes, and I'm still spawning 5ft from enemies.

I also just saw a guy with all the perks hack, so that wasn't fixed either.

After playing a bit more on ps4, Iv'e started to warm up to the multiplayer. The only thing I still don't like is the maps. They look really cool (stormfront especially). But they are just too overdesigned. Prison break is the best map in the game because it avoids that a bit. Chasm has to be the worst map in any cod game though.

I was hoping this update (just fired up the PS4 right now... downloading update) was for the spawns, oh well. If they can fix the spawns this game can be GREAT. I already like it MUCH better than Black Ops 2.

Here I am again, bored and frustrated with another COD game. I felt like I had no choice though, I don't like KZ controls nor do I want to play in a large scale battle that BF provides. So I got COD by default and my frustrations have been felt by a lot of people going only by reading the last couple of pages.

The first and only COD I've ever bought and enjoyed was the first Modern Warfare. Everything was simplified. Their were only 3 kill streaks and maps were pretty straight forward. Ever since then maps have you worried about getting shot at from 20 different angles every time you decide to go anywhere other then the end of the map. I liked the simplistic map designs, and yeah I even liked the choke points. It felt like the enemy was either coming from this way or that way. And when you get killed, you saw your enemy half the time. Now I die 80% of the time because I got shot from the back, sideways, through a window, etc.

But their is one saving grace for me it appears. I find infected kind of fun. It reminds me of a game I played when I was a little kid called Spider Ball. The kids who were "it" had a ball and had to hit us with it and then we would be "out". Not the same concept but you get what I mean. I like it because it's straight forward and removes a lot of the annoyances that many of us have with the game. Guys can't spawn camp, turtle, worry about their KDR, and so on. Everybody is just having fun it seems. I'm glad their is at least one thing about MP that I can enjoy so far.

Will I ever buy a COD game again? Yeah sure, I'm a idiot and will probably come back to this franchise at some point no matter how much the MP frustrates me even though I don't touch SP. The simple controls and focus on shooting in small(er) maps is what I prefer over being able to ride vehicles or having realistic weighty controls. Oh well, maybe I can hope for a COD: MW 1080p version with updated weapons some day.

Hands down my favorite thing to do in this game now is when I'm in a game of infected and I'm infected and run into 2+ guys who have cornered themselves is to just keep baiting them to shoot me so that it will alert the rest of the infected to come to where they are and we just start swarming them lol.

Just wanted to mention that.

Somehow the maps are by average the largest in the series yet they couldn't use that extra room to prevent people from spawning in right in my FOV.

It's unfortunate they weren't willing to tweak mechanics the accommodate the batshit maps. Some increased TTKs and 7v7 (8v8?) default TDM matches would go a long way to fix the "wander around for 30 seconds looking for someone then die instantly after being shot in the back" cycle that exists in Ghosts.

Having finished the campaign yesterday, I booted up the multiplayer for the first time.
I haven't played CoD since MW3 , so when I first saw the ... HUUUUGE number of options and customizations, I was taken aback and kinda brainfarted on it all. :/
I enjoy CoD and I will play this game a lot, but can someone give me some tips and tricks in terms of where and what should I develop/do?
I'm not "l33t pro" and I tend to play support roles and objectives modes where the team works for the common goal.
Thanks.

Heh, you're in luck, I just made a big post over on SA. Here, enjoy the fruits of my morning labor:

ARs: MSBS if you like burst, Honey Badger for the free integrated Silencer, AK12 if you want to fight at long range, FAD if you want to fight up close.

AR attachments: Take a Silencer till you know what you're doing. Extended Mags or a sight of your choice if you dislike the irons.

SMGs: K7 for the free integrated Silencer, Vector or MTAR if you want to fight at 'long' smg range, Bizon if you want to fight up close.

SMG attachments: Same deal as ARs, but you might want to experiment with Rapid Fire on the K7, Vector, or MTAR (don't use it on the Bizon, for stupid reasons it does next to nothing on it)

LMGs: Wouldn't recommend these if you haven't played in awhile, though they're all pretty fucking amazing. Ameli - 2sk up close, M27 3sk at any range, LSAT 3-5sk, but very high fire rate and first three shots have less recoil, a beast with Rapid Fire up close.

LMG attachments: Grip or Rapid Fire and Thermal Sight. The Thermal in this game can be switched to a regular red dot sight, and has very high zoom in thermal mode, so you can walk around scanning for targets normally and zoom in for distant killshots. Rapid Fire on the LSAT is murderous for close range fights, though it can make the others a bit trickier to use at long range (the Ameli has increased recoil on the first two shots, rather than decreased like the LSAT).

Marksman Rifles and Sniper Rifles are pretty straightforward and all are good, you can't really go wrong. Shotguns... use the Bulldog or FP6 with Steady Aim and lots of speed perks, or the Tac12 with Quickdraw and lots of speed perks.

For Pistols, if you want best 2sk range, use P226, best accuracy, use Grach. Don't use the Magnum. Don't use a pistol on anything but LMGs/MRs/Snipers. Dual wielded pistols are quite good at close range if you can trigger mash.

Equipment: lol disable this

Perks: Get Dead Silence, Amplify, Focus and either Stalker or Quickdraw. I'd recommend Stalker, but if you have issues aiming while moving at full speed, use Quickdraw.

For your last two perk points either get a perk of your choice (Sitrep is a good one for avoiding IEDs and finding enemies and getting free streak points from killing their gear), or grab Ready Up and either Takedown or a secondary Pistol or IED for rage inducement.

SMGs don't need Stalker or Quickdraw as much, speed perks work well on them. LMGs don't need Dead Silence or Ready Up/Takedown as much (unless you're trying to fight at close range with them for some weird reason), Incog works well on them for shooting at a distance (same on MRs or Snipers).

Assault Killstreaks: 5-7-9 assault with Hardline is the easiest way to chain them. Use IMS, not Guard Dog, and Trinity into any 9 or 10 point streak of your choice. However I wouldn't run assault at first until you're comfortable with the game, in the mean time run...

Support: Ballistic Vests, Oracle, Odin are all strong, running just up to Ballistic Vests and looping them is a good setup.

Specialist is somewhat similar to Assault in that its not going to benefit you a lot until you can consistently go on streaks. Once you can it will let you run gun superiority AND stealth perks at the same time.

Maps: Slow the fuck down, follow your idiot teammates around and let them die for your sins, once you learn them you'll start figuring out whole chunks of the levels you can lock down as your own (with the god given power of Amplify). Alternately play Cranked and just run around like a rabid monkey hipfiring shotguns.

TLDR: Get an AR (MSBS) with a Silencer + Sight, Dead Silence, Amplify, Focus, Stalker or Quickdraw and either Sitrep, a 2 point perk of your choice, or Ready Up and Takedown.

Because you aren't running Off the Grid to hide from SATCOMs, listen carefully to the SATCOM messages. When you hear 'enemy SATCOM' twice in quick succession, don't try to sneak up on the enemy team, keep your distance for a short time. They only last 30 seconds, and a lot of people aren't running SATCOMs, so this is rarely a huge issue.

--

As an addendum, because you specifically mentioned support, it's worth mentioning that a Riot Shield build with smoke and defensive perks can be quite strong in Dom.

Support streaks in general are good if you're into, well, supporting your team.

Good support perks: Amplify, Wiretap, Sitrep, Ping. Note that for all four of those, you need to be communicating with your team, so they aren't as useful for team support unless you're in a party with friends.

That's a spawn problem. WaW maps were about as big as these maps and they didn't have the problem of just flat out not being able to find people if you were looking for them. Not being able to find people who are hiding is not a problem. Having a sprint class and not being able to find ANYBODY even when you flank around or run straight into firefights IS a problem.

It's funny it's called "spawn logic" because there doesn't seem to be logic applied to the spawns. Well, not good logic anyway. The game should always spawn you in a safe location. If you die in a gunfight or because the opponent has a good position, that's because your skill is lower than their skill (well, sorta. But at least it's fair). If you die because you spawn and someone is facing your back... well there's nothing you can do about that. You know it's bad when you kill someone and feel sorry for them.

Has there been any statistical analysis done on Armor-Piercing yet? Any Youtube videos or charts? I'm curious as to how it effects cover penetration.

It's also a problem when someone spawns right behind you and shoots you in the back. Spawning players close to other players is just bad all around.

I don't know if I just suck at COD now or something, but it seems to me the SMG's in this game are pure shit. I unload on people and they just turn around and one shot me it seems all the time. I have no clue what happened from MW3 to ghosts, but it seems to me they either nerved SMG's or they buffed AR's so much that now SMG's are pure shit. Or maybe it may be lag comp, I remember it being terrible at launch for MW3, but it eventually got better over time. Anybody else notice these things?

I've avoided SMGs in every IW version. Blops caters to SMGs and BlopsII was especially bad in this regard, so maybe this time around they made SMGs especially shitty.

But I have gotten killed a decent amount by MTAR-X and Vector.

IDK in MW3 I was a beast with the PP90 with rapid fire and steady aim, as well as having the akimbo FMJ's. In Ghosts I just cannot do anything with the SMG's. I guess I will have to practice more with the AR's, I just really do not like that I cannot use SMG's anymore. I felt like BLOPS2 was good with the SMG's and shotguns. The Remington 870 with long barrel was awesome.

I have noticed though that a lot of maps in this game are way bigger then normal, and I am still learning them so that could be a problem right now as well.

On small-medium sized maps like Freight, Strikezone, Tremor and Free Fall, try the K7, is a tiny beast:

For longer distances, I usually choose Vepr or Mtar-X.

Most CoDs cater to ARs which is pretty annoying. They're very versatile and don't really lose hard at any range. A gun like the MSBS can win any gunfight at any range far more than it should.

That being said, the SMGs aren't super terrible in this game, but obviously they'll lose hard at AR range or even mid-close range if you don't aim faster than your opponent. I'm a CQC guy so I like the fastest SMG with rapid fire on. I would not recommend an SMG with a silencer only because it's so weak. If you plan on winning any gunfights head to head against a competent opponent, you're better off ditching the silencer.

I like the AR focus. They're great all-around guns, but if you want to specialize in CQC or longer range, then you can customize your character and playstyle around that.

It seems balanced to have ARs be effective on most maps.

From close range to far, you have:

Shotguns
SMGs
ARs
Marksman or LMGs
Snipers

That puts ARs right in the middle as well-rounded guns, where I personally feel they should be. Then if you want to further specialize at another range, you begin to lose out on the other end.

I don't feel like any gun should often win gun fights at ranges they don't dominate. I think a sniper should beat an equally skilled SMG user at far range at least 90-95% of the time and lose to an equally skilled SMG user at close range at least 90-95% of the time. Obviously ARs are in the middle range-wise (so matchups won't be as lopsided), but in almost every CoD, there are always one (or several) ARs that I feel like I should win a gun fight at least 50% of the time against any gun at any range. The MSBS is one such example in this game. Put me against an equally skilled sniper at far range or a shotgun/SMG at close range and I won't lose more than 50% of the gun fights. Guaranteed.

I don't mind ARs dominating their range. It's when they make other guns useless that I draw the line. I think WaW's balancing for the ARs was near perfect. Most of the ARs were single shot and not super powerful so they were great at mid range. The auto AR had a pretty slow RoF. Not like the kill machine ARs that are in almost every CoD.

Well, I think it's fair to call the MSBS a special case, since most players "in the know" consider it overpowered, even within the AR class.
