Call of Duty: WWII - Beta Impressions

Woah. If a COD god like you says it, I feel more validated :P

----

Loads and loads of complaints about the maps on the reddit forum. Going as far as to compare it to Ghosts.

It's a shame, because I am happy with them bringing back stuff like limited sprint, limited perks, etc. but if the maps aren't good, it all falls apart.
Yeah, it's hard to put a finger on it, but if the core mechanics are not there, it all falls apart.

Maps and shooting mechanics are the 2 key components. If they are not there, the setting, the weapons etc, it stops to matter. Doesn't help that I find it extremely laggy as well.

This feels stiff. So much head glitching too.

I'm capturing flags, I'm winning, I'm going positive and doing well, but I don't feel like I'm having much fun.

I played bo2 for about 3 years, looks like the same will happen with bo3.

I feel this is better than AW and infinite warfare (not by much when it comes to IW). But, as hard as this is to admit, I think Ghosts beats it.

Did you guys know that if you jump, you'll gain an advantage and be a COD GOD?

I just hopped on CoD2 on PC and spectated a random match. Man, anyone who complains about TTK in CoD being low in these past few games are crazy. Go check CoD2 out if you want to see low TTK.

I can record matches on that if you want to compare.

Cod 2 was amazing. Much slower and less run run die run die run run die run run run. Gotta give those ADD kids that fix!!!!! Guystuffingremoteinhisass.gif

Playing with an M1 Garand or M1A1 and the flipped button layout is bliss (unless the bullet flinch messes up your aim). Hopefully SnD plays good in this one. I fucking hate respawn game types (I'm a weirdo).

Well if it was a server where 90 percent of players were using Kar98ks and other bolt action rifles I'm not surprised at the TTK lol.

Hey, that would be pretty cool if you could do a side-by-side.

Yeah, there was a lot of bolt actions, but I saw one dude dominating people with the M1 Garand. He was two shotting people left and right with it. The Garand in this game is also a two shot it seems, so there's some consistency there. I don't think it ever took more than three shots to kill someone with any weapon I saw while spectating.

Unfortunately I have almost no experience with video editing, so I wouldn't know how to begin to do that. :/

I don't know what changed since last week but I can't do a damn thing. I'm getting shot twice and dying I'm losing every single one-on-one fight and I'm finishing games like 5 and 22. There are just too many Pathways and in and outs. I'm getting shot from the back and the side nonstop.

Yeah it's pretty consistent. You'll just have a bad time if you want to take on the majority SMG users up close with the bullet flinch though.

It's there a way to get your grenade back? Like old school scavenger?

Can I have two tactical?

Yeah, theres a ribbon/perk for that

Man, I wish Activision would curb hackers in BO2. I want to go back to it but every game is hacked. Its sad.

I didn't like BO3 much, but I just want that COD itch satisfied. May have to just buy Titanfall again.

Just played it for like 3 hours. It's ok I suppose, feels like the same old peer to peer COD. One match I'm dominating, the next match I can barely get a kill.

I'll buy it for the campaign & zombies, but I don't think I'll spend much time playing multiplayer.

Only played a couple of matches but from what I can tell, there's no reason to use anything except the SMG?

Also the connection quality is pretty god awful, I don't know how this franchise continues to get away with it considering how much money they rake in every year.

I am more surprised there still cod2 servers running still.

Hop on Twitch and right on the front page is a video of some douchebag talking shit about women -

https://clips.twitch.tv/PlainBelovedShallotThisIsSparta

Think I'll pass on this game.

The Call of Duty and Battlefield communities tend to vary from "good people" to "degenerates". The Battlefield 1 and WWII subreddits have threads every few days or so with people ranting endlessly about how unrealistic it is for women and black people to serve for the US, Prussians, Germans, and so on. You know, historical accuracy. Historical accuracy in the same games where you use SMGs from the end of WW1 at the very start of it, or equip Nydar sights (which were used sparingly by hunters with shotguns after the war) on their assault rifles.

I've even seen people throwing a hissy fit that there's a woman on the new Battlefield 1 cover (for the "Revolution Edition"), even though women did serve in WW1 on the Russian front.

I purposely use a black woman as my character in CoD: WWII because it's awesome that I have that option and to hopefully piss off any misogynistic, white supremacist asshole I could run into while I destroy them.

That's my plan, too. Great way to passively piss people off (as god intended).

In game BF1 has the highest concentration of Nazi emblems, holocaust deniers, antisemites, and general bottom scum of humanity.

Scum communities seem to form around games with these specific time frames.

I'm so intrigued by the technical workings of the XB1 version, I promise these aren't just hapless shitposts.
Look at the edges of the smoke here, what is going on? This is consistent with all alpha effects in the XB1 build.

So, why is it people on here dislike those who jump & dropshot again? It if one of those "realism" arguments?

Many thought that a return to BOTG would mean all the Scufs would disappear, but this has not been the case.

Aachen is barely okay, but man, something doesn't feel right about that map. Sledgehammer sure is committed to making sure SMG users never have to use any other weapon type. Plus Aachen was put into the rotation in place of Ardennes Forest, the only map I've enjoyed.

TLDR: First COD game since COD2 I will not be getting on launch day.

Where to begin? I suppose I'll start with the things I liked. I think the game looks great. Beautiful art and some great map backdrops/locations make this game feel fresh and a nice change of pace from the glut of future shooters we've had lately. Also, outside of a tad of swiss cheese in Aachen, they were enjoyable. It was also cool, for a few hours at least, to have some old hardware in our hands. Though, they grew stale swiftly. The Garand felt nice with quick double taps. The shotgun felt great in the trenches. The sniper rifles felt awful... The LMG's were clumsier than ever.

And I guess now that I'm drifting into what I didn't like, I am really surprised how little I cared for the beta overall.

The lack of customization is mind boggling and beyond absurd. I get that they want to change things up a bit, but going from the pick ten type of system to this made me feel like I was playing some COD copy out of China.

Having the 'stealth' class (Mountaineer) not be able to equip suppressors to anything? Really?

Having the suppressor class not be able to have dead silence or a ghost like perk?

And speaking of customization; I hated the incendiary shotgun rounds. It shortened the one shot kill range (or sure felt like it) and I found myself unloading them every spawn until finally I took the shotgun over to the infantry class to avoid having them. I should be able to toggle them off and enjoy the other perks of that class...

War was interesting a few times, but that kind of mode is not why I come to Cod. I see Cod as a kick back and solo or chat with buddies while working it in TDM. If I want to strategize and coordinate with teammates, I'll play one of the plentiful games designed from the ground up for teamwork (which isn't really my bag most of the time). Cod is that great end of the day, knock out a few matches and chill game for me for years now. I only have voice enabled for friends because chat is toxic, and I don't roll on a schedule with a crew. War was fun a few times, but it was then back to TDM.

I guess it wasn't that I didn't like it, but more so that I was completely indifferent about it. I played other betas for hours upon hours. This one, I felt as though I got my fill after a short two or so. I think the biggest gripe was a lack of customization for no real reason I could put my fingers on.

I'll see how the reviews hold up and maybe redbox it for the campaign and a weekend session.

Well every time I played tonight, the play of the game was literally someone mowing down 3-4 people with an smg. It's crazy. It was never like that in a COD before.

It's happening because the maps/respawns are so small and clustered that players are running into gangs of enemies.

In older COD games, maps were bigger and you didn't really run into 3 guys up each others asses. It was more often that they trickled in, but here, I am running into so many players grouped togehter

Wow, man. That smoke comes straight out of a Sega Genesis game :O

LMGs are fucking terrible of course. I don't know why they even bother to keep putting them in the game, they're never going to make them even remotely viable.

Was it Ghosts that had a decent LMG and then it was nerfed to the ground? Can’t remember which, but yeah, LMG’s are generally mediocre at best.

What are you even talking about? The smoke in that pic is 100% fine... no visual issues I see.
