Capcom announces LOST PLANET 2 (360) - shock&awe imminent

YESSSSSSSSSSSS! One of my fav games of this gen just got a sequel :D

Just fix:
- hit detection
- hit recover time and hit animation (were too long)
- minor graphical glitches

I kinda miss the main characters though.

This x a million.

At times, an enemy could juggle the player because of the falling-and-getting-up animation took so damn long.

Aside from that, I still loved the first game, and will definitely check out part 2.

Gaming is gooooooood.
Question: what does non-interactive cutscene have to do with gaming?

That looks awesome.

If this was 360 exclusive ... I am 100% sure MS would have " only of 360 " all over that at the end of the trailer or interview.. Thats how things are now.

There is NO way its 360 exlusive as IGN PS3 will have a preview today

Obviously not exclusive, or they would've banged us over the head with it. So odd that MS and Capcom teamed up for a "XBOX Marketplace Exclusive Announcement", as in, the announcement was exclusive to XBOX Marketplace for the 45 minutes it took Blim to upload a video.

Any screens of Wii version yet?

usually they set up the story and then periodically advance it. they regularly make you care about the situation or the characters, or make you especially eager to kill a given antagonist.

given that cut scenes ONLY exist in games, i can't see what they DON'T have to do with games.

Platinum Games says hi!

I'd wait until they actually release a game yet before we all start kissing their ass...

Cool, I played through the first one when the DX10 patch came out on PC, was purty but not a great game by any stretch of the imagination. However, I am a huge sucker for co/op, so I might actually pick this up.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360, there's no reason to have a surprise announcement exclusive to Xbox Live if that weren't the case (I guess DLC is possible). A few weeks back, Capcom simply announced Dead Rising 2 through basic PR and channeled it through gaming publications, they could have done the same for Lost Planet 2 but didn't, the fact that they announced it through the Xbox Live channel has to have some kind of significance.

This is how all game announcements should be made; a proper introduction from the producers, a nice big chunk of real in-game footage, pre-empt some of the 'FAQs' and then cut to a big fucking grin across the producer's face as he says "We hope you like what you see".

They announced RE5 during MS presentation of E3. That doesnt make it a 360 exclusive. Again you know and I know if either MS or Sony had it as exclusive or timed , it they would have let you know 10000000000 times.

Bungie, take note.

Had pretty much figured this would be the game after reading the thread originally. Great news, I really enjoyed the first one. Never got into the multiplayer in the original, but co-op is always welcome.

Agree 100% though that the hit recovery/animation needs to be adjusted. Actually the entire game could be sped up a bit, movement, enemies, grappling, etc. Hope they have a bit more variety when it comes to vehicles/mechs this time to.

HOLY SHIT. I actually clapped at the end of this. THIS IS HOW GAMES SHOULD BE ANNOUNCED MOTHERFUCKERS.

Capcom breaking ALL the shitty marketing rules with this one. No need for some epic expo for the reveal...just show that shit. WOW I'm so surprised that something of quality was shown so randomly. And then to actually show GAMEPLAY right off the bat without some dumb CG teaser and actually answer QUESTIONS at the end of it?

FUUUUUUUUUCK.gif

BOW CAPCOM BOW

And not only that but initially when I saw the title and it said Lost Planet 2 in this thread I was like dammit...garbage. Lost Planet 1 was good fun, but my mind couldn't really predict the awesomeness of what was coming in this sequel. My god they are bringing out the full potential of this game and it looks BEAUTIFUL. 4 player co-op against giant monster god damn I'll have some of that. Also an updated version of framework? FUUUUCK. Does RE5 use this engine because LP2 looks amazing.

Day 1 Capcom. SHIIIIIIIIT.

Lost Planet was an amazing looking game with some fun gameplay, that had awful characters and a terrible story.

Here's hope the former keeps on rollin' and the latter gets a complete overhaul! :)

Though I'm getting it Day 1 anyway, as I pretty much got a 360 for this title at launch.

Resident Evil 5 was announced simultaneously for the Xbox 360 and Playstation in an issue of Famitsu, it was unveiled at a Microsoft press conference but that's because their press conference happened to be the first one at e3 that year. There's no such scenario this time around.

Wasn't Lost Planet randomly announced as well? I recall just waking up to a trailer for the game one day :lol

Literally blown away. It looks like 4 player co-op too(please let it have local co-op too!). Those visuals are really something else(like the first part where they are crossing the river) and the 4 player gameplay really made everything look like it will be a blast to play. That was an amazing trailer. Great lighting too.

I'm hoping it's a timed exclusive though. I don't see the point in keeping it in one system, at least for capcom.

I loved the first one except for the part where you constantly had to get that energy, it really killed the exploration part for me.

My sentiments exactly. No dumb bullshots, no idiot CG "target render".
Just present your GAME, developers - not blatant lies.

Ok as a huge fan of the first game, and especially Colonies, I have alot to say about this.

For one, Framework 2.0 looks fucking amazing. That is probably the best ingame graphic I have ever seen, and the Killzone comparisons are actually warrented. The new looks are definately "inspired" by Killzone and it's amazing animation, and IMO the art style trumps it. Hell the whole boat ride part looks right out of Killzone as well and I have no doubt that is what Capcom was going for. Nothing wrong with seeing an amazing job in one game and trying to push your project to match or even exceed that level that bar that Killzone has set, visually speaking (and no, I am not a Killzone or PS3 fanboy, but it's easy to see the paralells between the two projects).

It looks like they took the first game and juiced up everything. The animation, especially on the enemy kills, the walking, the jumping, the running, looks just stellar. On par with the best I have ever seen.

Secondly, I am loving the ideas I saw for multiplayer and single player co-op. Running is added! Thank the gods (cap-god). Beasting on Akrid was fun in multiplayer with Colonies but killing CPU controlled bugs in a co-op is even better. Kudos for that.

As for release date/systems. If it were 360 exclusive, they'd have pimped that at the end. They did not. This is clearly not 360 exclusive, but if it is whatever I have a 360 so I don't care. PC version probably too. But who knows.

I am just blown completely away by this and I couldn't be happier. I highly, highly doubt this will make 2009 though. But that's totally cool because I still have about 700 points of achievements left in Colonies, and RE5 and Dead Rising 2 aren't even out yet. I swear, if I only had Capcom games this gen I'd be a happy camper. They are the best developer out there and this cements it. My frothing demand for this game has increased. Good shit Capcom.

They're ain't smart in my eyes yet until they announced a next gen Monster Hunter. We all know their "too expensive to develop" is bullshit.

Well you're in luck!

Monster Hunter 3 is coming exclusively to the Wii. Get hyped because your "next gen" Monster Hunter is here!

It seems that the co-op Akrid mode is an evolution of the Lost Planet Colonies gametypes that are available now where a couple players control the Akrid and everyone else tries to take them out. It's a really fun gametype.

It's interesting to hear they're going to show the story from different groups of Snow Pirates. It kind of reminds me of Call of Duty. They pretty much finished Wayne's storyline at the end of the first one, so they don't need to beat that into the ground again. But I hope they go into some more detail about the Lost Planet universe. It's actually really interesting.

Yes yes me too. You play alot of multiplayer Colonies you see these interesting snow pirate types and I always wanted some backstory on them (my favorite, the pink guy with the bear mask who does the Degeneration X crotch chop as his taunt.)

And it never made sense why the multiplayer was different classes of snow pirates, then you went to single player and it was all about Wayne and his crew who aren't even playable in multi. Hell, remember the old movie trailer, showed off a huge war between two snow pirate factions, then you get to the actual game and it's got nothing to do with that. Now it looks like they are making that war the main focus of the single and multiplayer modes. Awesome.

Great news! The addition of co-op is also fantastic! While I did love the snow, it is great to see some new environments pop up. More mech too! :D *joygasm*

Imagine this on MT Framework 2.0 on a system with current gen power :drools.

Maybe in 2010 when PS3 and 360 have a stronger foothold in Japan they'll bless us with it.

So how badly is Capcom shitting on EVERYONE else this gen? Honestly? It's ridiculous. I'm going to download this in HD on my 360 to get a good look at the graphics.

Didn't you read the early part of the movie that he said that thanks to help from Microsoft...?

Anyway, as long as they fix the control and lower the difficulty level, it could do well. As much as hardcore crowd might hate it, games would do well if the default difficulty level is reasonable. The last game, as much as I wanted to like it, I hated the sequence of getting-shot-and-falling-down-and-then-a-loooong-standing-back-up animation which is quickly followed by getting shot again all before I get to control my character; your movements were sluggish while you're in slow to begin with. Very stylish while very frustrating.

I'm in J-land, and dled it. FUCKING GDLK. Seriously hyped for this, and I didn't even play the first one.

The single-player demo that came out at E3 a few years ago compelled me to buckle down and jump in. I'm glad the Lost Planet IP is expanding, the first was underrated and misunderstood.

And pipe dream, but cross-platform (PS3 this time too) would be amazing.

Dead Rising
LP1
DMC4
SF IV
RE 5
Bionic Commando
Dark Void
Dead Rising 2
and now LP2...

Capcom is teh winnar of this gen.

Your best bet is probably going to be downloading it from http://gamersyde.com/leech_10180_en.html and copying it to a thumbdrive so you can watch it on your 360. I'm pretty sure you can directly download it to a Playstation 3 if you have one (Through the Browser), not a feature I use much but I'm pretty sure it's possible.
