I liked it, but goddamn Ant-Man and Spidey were nothing more than set pieces in this. On top of that, NEITHER of their respective inclusions make any sense at all.

I'm willing to let it slide because they were both so heavily and well utilized in the big brawl, but it is some seriously ridiculous stuff that Marvel just said "fuck it" and knew they'd get away with.

Steve Roger is such a hypocrite. You can't blame Stark for being pissed here.

Stark hides a secret involving a project he made with good intention. And Steve criticised him. While Steve himself hides a secret with a selfish reason: to protect Bucky, by not letting him know that Bucky killed his parents.

This is a ridiculous comparison. Steve criticised people for keeping secrets about things that would endanger people's lives. And what do you know, both Project Insight and Ultron led to the loss of hundreds of human lives. Knowing that a brainwashed Hydra assassin killed your parents instead of a car accident doesn't even begin to compare.

Was it shitty, selfish and cowardly? Yes. But it's not hypocritical at all.

Love Spidy amd Zemo.
I thought Stark is not angry enough at the final fight scene, they should show more pain getting hit, raise the stake a little.

Marisa Tomei...hnnnng.

Did not expect so much time dedicated to Spidey. Also very glad this basically used nothing from the Civil War comic.

Same here. It broke my heart when his time was up... and I'm sure the whole audience went "nooooo" when it was apparent that he is going to leave the movie.

Ant-Man's reaction to
his Giant-Man transformation (how he geeked out)
takes the cake, easily the highlight of the movie. The whole audience had tears of joy.

I'd say it's only hypocritical in the sense that Steve has alluded to having an overarching policy on team honesty, not just hiding things that can endanger lives. It was explicitly pointed in The Winter Soldier with how angry he was at Black Widow and Fury for having a second task since that came down mostly to a matter of principle. He also threw shade at Thor in Avengers 2 for not telling Cap what he was going to do during their respite, despite the fact that Thor is probably the character to trust "the most" in terms of maintaining the correct course of action.

That said yeah, it's not the same situations. But it's clearly one that Cap acknowledges as a sore misjudgment on his part in the end, as he pretty much betrayed his own values.

Has it been confirmed that Spidey will appear in Infinity War?

no nothing confirmed past civil war and spidey 2017. if spidey 2017 ends up being a huge success than you could see the Sony marvel deal only getting stronger and spideys integration into the MCU would only grow

Not everything needs to be game of thrones. You can have stakes, drama, and emotional impact without killing off characters.

Yeah, I do think this complaint is going to pop up quite a bit after the movie comes out, it seems.

There are people who have been trained really well by modern mythology that the only way stakes can be successfully raised is to a) threaten the entire world and b) kill off some heroes.

I hate that the LEGO set spoiled Giant Man.

As soon as he said something about having tried it once in a lab, I knew what was coming.

Still, it looked fantastic!

They should really buy back F4 though, we really need Doom - THE Avengers villain.

Speaking of which they're never gonna make a Hulk movie are they? And did they explain in-story where Thor went? I mean we all know why and where, but there was no transition towards A2 and this film to where Thor went off to.

I hope that we get to see Thanos "Sky Chariot" in a future Marvel movie.

Something about seeing a 7ft tall, godlike conqueror piloting a helicopter would make me cheer, despite how absurd it sounds.

The fact that a villain's secret machinations were behind the central debate kind of weakened it for me. Cap's arguments for his side were pretty wafer thin too.

Comments / questions:

- The fights at the start were much better than the ones later on. The obligation to show off everyone's goofy powers in creative ways is not really playing to the Russos strengths.

- I spent half the film thinking that Zemo was the guy who was a brain in a jar from the last movie and wondering when we'd see the process by which he downloaded his digital tape brain into a new human body. Who was that guy actually? I forgot his name.

- Was the entire plan to uncover the secret base on the end just to attain the video footage to show Iron Man? Also, did he find those people dead, or did he kill them, I think I missed something there.

Arnim Zola was the Swiss scientist who worked for Red Skull in The First Avenger. In The Winter Soldier it was revealed that SHIELD recruited him as part of Operation Paperclip, which he in turn used to assimilate Hydra. He developed the algorithm which the Helicarriers used to determine the targets at the end of the movie.

The plan, according to Zemo, was to set the stage for The Avengers to tear themselves apart. He was intending on wiping out the remnants of Hydra but also used it as an opportunity to bring Iron Man and Cap together to the same page so they can wipe each other out. Zemo was the one who killed the Winter Soldiers.

Now that we have Tom Holland Spidey, my hopes arise for a post-credits stinger where they adapt the short scene from the comics where Spidey and Loki hang around on a NYC rooftop eating hot dogs.

My mini:
Saw Captain America: Civil War IMAX 3D,

What a ride.
New favourite marvel movie? New favourite marvel movie.
As always I'll try to avoid spoilers.

The hardest thing about ensemble movies is trying to find a perfect balance between plot, pacing and somehow giving every character the screen time they need. The biggest achievement of this movie is how well crafted this balance is and how much it still very much is a "cap" movie, instead of "avengers 2.5".
We are now 8 years into these movies, so it was very smart to not do any "origin" pieces for newcomers Black Panther or Spider-man.

I would say the movie starts of strongly, but the entire thing is paced incredibly well; it literally just gets better which each passing minute.
And it's not all action and tension either, there are many moments where the movie slows down to deliver comedy and drama, but always to further the plot. Which is good, because some of these action pieces...my man let me tell you about the action in this movie right here.

The Russos left their mark firmly on the MCU with their excellent action cinematography. We all remember the opening sequence to Winter Soldier, where cap drops down on the ship and proceeds to just maul the everloving fuck out of everyone; this was the first time where I thought: "yes, this is what it should look like when you try to fight someone who can outrun cars and shit".
Civil War said we can do better and turns it up to 11.

What's really great about the action set pieces in this film is how everyone has a very clear and distinct style, and after her weird regression in AoU, Black Widow is back to being and utter badass technical fighter.
Cap does a lot more great stuff with his shield, Bucky is the unrefined tank, Black Panther was focussed and sharp like a (vibranium) razer, and Spider-Man...."oh god" Spider-Man..

Even if you take all the best moments of the previous 5 spider-man movies, the 10 minutes of spider-man in civil war is better than all of them combined. His personality, his quips, his fighting style, his powers, his look (the eyes on his suit are just brilliant), all top notch.
Even his spider-sense was shown in the most clever way put on screen yet; it was only a 2 second scene but incredibly well done.

I can write large pieces about the things I liked everyone, but ain't nobody got time for that, so I'll just say they were all great.
Oh and Ant-Man...haha you won't be disappointed.

Great audio, music and visuals as expected, though I think overall as captain america movie, the winter soldier is still better, an unavoidable side effect of having other heroes running around.
Still, amazing movie and easily my new favourite from Marvel.

Go watch this, and watch it in IMAX 3D because the big IMAX scene is just fucking ridiculous and you owe it to yourself to see it as intended ;].

(also y'all need to stop watching trailers for these movies <_<)

wait, which 2 second scene shows spider sense? I didn't think I notice any other than brief mention about why Peter need the goggle for his homemade suit.

when he's chasing after falcon spidey says "OH GOD" and his eyes go wide cuz Bucky threw a chunk of debris after him he avoids it due to his spider sense, cut to Bucky hiding and Spidey says "hey buddy I think you lost this!" and tosses it back at Bucky

YES. Loved that, combined the Spider Sense and his battle banter without either seeming out of place.

I feel like seeing the squiggly lines would have made it more obvious to people what was going on, but that's more something you see in a creative web video than a Marvel movie production. Who knows with how the Spidey solo film will go though? Maybe they can make those squiggly spider sense lines work!

re: spider sense, now that I think about it there are several cheap shots with spidey that he should have saw coming:

- ant-man on the shield
- redwing catching his arm
- caps shield cutting through his webbing
- giant-mans hand knocking him out

I guess I'd chock all of that up to inexperience and/or excitement though. even the comics aren't very consistent with spider sense though

god damn, you're right, I just watched the scene again from that cam video of the airport fight (lost count how many times I've re-watched that scene) I can't believe I missed that.

man, I can't wait until Saturday where I'll get the chance to watch it again on theater

I feel like with those 4 examples, Spidey was clearly too focused on something else and not being in-the-zone or in the heat of battle. He can't notice Lang when he's engrossed with watching Stark and Cap chatting, he's busy talking to Falcon and Bucky explaining his situation when he should be finishing his webbing first and explaining later, Spidey clearly states that the shield doesn't obey the laws of physics so it caught him off guard, and he's giving the thumbs up to Stark and Rhodey after taking down the ANT-ANT.

... At least, that's how I rationalize it. And like you said, inexperience, this is his first rodeo with the big leagues as far as the MCU is concerned. No signs of Doc Ock, Sandman or Electro in NYC yet.

I wonder if they're going to establish a lot of Spider-man side characters in the homecoming movie. I mean, at the very least, we definitely need Gwen, Mary Jane, and Harry Osborn right? probably Norman Osborn as well ,even if Green Goblin is not the villain, they need to at least introduce the characters.

Gwen and Mary Jane together in one movie will be fun, let us get our shipping wars. I can't believe 4 previous spider-man film, and none of them have gwen and mary jane together. you'd think after the success of twilight, they'll try to capitalize on the romantic triangle approach

I'd be 100% okay if Mary Jane and Gwen never appear in any of these movies. I'm over it
