Zemo disappointed.

Stark was on the right side.

I love that we disagree. That's what they promised.

Cap was on the right side IMO.

How did Zemo know about the Winter Soldier's involvement in the death of the Stark's?

He was a weird character. I get what they were going for, a slightly nebbish dude taking down The Avengers where aliens and robots couldn't, but I'm not sure exactly how he came upon so much information other than "I did research".

I guess it was HYDRA's files being declassified?

Yeah, pretty much. Hydra files that were encrypted, but he eventually unlocked them.

That info alone was enough for him to find a way to make them fall apart from within.

Finally got around to finally seeing this movie last night, after much anticipation! I definitely enjoyed it, although I think it would be fair to say the film isn’t without its fair share of problems…particularly on a basic narrative level.

8/10.

Pros:

-Spiderman was wonderful and I really enjoyed Tom Holland’s take on Peter Parker.
-The airport fight sequence was fantastic. Very visually inventive and exciting!
-Ant-Man was a delight. Really funny, whilst also being utilized in really inventive ways as a fighter. From transforming into Giant-Man, lobbing trucks at people, sabotaging the inner-wiring of Tony’s amour…he was a lot of fun.

Cons:

-Messy, relatively unfocused main storyline.
-The political argument around the Sokovia Accords wasn’t nearly as interesting or well developed as I had originally hoped. It seemed to almost get dropped as the central conflict between Tony and Steve in favour of Tony simply wanting to go after Bucky, which I couldn’t help but feel was far less interesting.
-Way too much Robert Downey Jr. I was sort of worried Tony’s beefed up presence in this movie would be in danger of overshadowing Steve’s role after reading that report about Robert Downey Jr was demanding extra screen-time in this film and I sort of feel my fears were proved to be justified. Bummer.

Major Cons:

-Really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really hate the fact that Tony is now officially the creator of Spiderman’s costume. I guess Spiderman’s literal appearance is now nothing more but yet another ingenious creation of Tony Stark’s, patent pending. Hate that so much.

Overall, I had a fun time though!

Yep, but it also reminded me than JK Simmons is entangled in Justice League and that's kind of a bummer.

Maybe they can Marisa Tomei'd JJJ. Emily Blunt might be available.

That's the implication, yeah.

HYDRA had been logging all of the Winter Soldiers targets.

Was he.

Stark seemed to have a fairly reasonable approach of "sign the papers, and let this blow over".

All Rogers had to do was make a choice between "go along with this so it doesn't cause trouble for others, then be a criminal" or "just be a criminal".

I agreed with the argument Captain America put forward, that they shouldn't be beholden to the ethics of others, but he was just being unreasonable in general.

Also, T'Chaka.

Now in my limited knowledge of Black Panther, he had the mantle of Black Panther too, at a time, right?

The fact that they killed him by having some explosion trip him and cause heart failure felt like a weak death. Should have had him do some heroic shit, and sacrifice himself to save everyone else.

(sorry about the double post).

He had all of HYDRA's files, experience in decryption and patience. It's incredible what a man can achieve with those things.

i wish she'd lose it for a bit. they treat her like some kind of delicate flower a lot in civ war

black widow, on the other hand.... i love her, just love her. sharon carter was cute too. and that bodyguard lady of t'challa was just smokingggg.

Yeah his bodyguard was point and she had a backside like a true African.

I have to say, when Tony found out about his parents in this movie, RDJ's acting was fucking perfect.

Tony is always a larger than life narcissist, so to get that intense, quiet, threatening presence in his blunt performance was just perfect, almost intimidating. He really sold how everything he's had to toughen through in this movie had finally broken him completely.

Also people seem to forget that Tony has a chip on his shoulder with regards to what he did with Potts.

Also, T'Chaka.

(sorry about the double post).

I thought in this version his dad was more of a diplomat and BP was a warrior's mantle?

Being beholden to governmental agendas was not why the Avengers were built. They're supposed to be heroes above politics. Ross proved that even with the info that Bucky hadn't blown up the UN, he refused to act on it.

The right thing isn't always the lawful thing. That is Cap's point, and the events that transpire illustrate that he was in fact 100% correct.

What if the government had Hydra agents still? How could the Avengers effectively take care of them if those in power refused to believe such things?

Cap is very morally binary, but I agree with what he did. That world needs heroes, not a government task force.

Don't forget, Steve was almost ready to comply when it seemed like that was Stark's stance.

There's a few times where he just lets go completely, that moment being one of them.

"Cut the bullshit Rogers"

Yeah, the Pepper break-up thing was a bit weird. What was the point of that exactly?

To send Tony further down to rock bottom. Wouldn't surprise me if hes an alcoholic in IWP1

Feige having said Black Panther specifically will lead right into Infinity War makes me think it'll be the third of these three 'event' solo films alongside this and Thor: Ragnarok. It's probably why it's been hit with delays the most to make sure it's the last to release before Infinity War. It'll be interesting what route it takes, but under the direction of Coogler, I'm nothing but excited.
I bet Wakanda is built on one of the Infinity gems
Nah probably not

I thought the car crash could have been a little more dramatic. The car hits a tree, and the steering wheel repeatedly bashes Howard Stark's head in as the dashboard chokes his wife to death and propels a bullet into a nearby camera.

And it's all for blue Cherkov's Gun goo that it turns out has nothing to do with the plot. I guess it was part of duping the audience into thinking the film might conclude differently.

Captain America was ready to sign when he realized that the Scarlet Witch was a prisioner for no other crime than being non-american with superpowers.
He literally had the pen on his hand, then Stark was like "by the way, I am already doing fascism"

Yeah, the Pepper break-up thing was a bit weird. What was the point of that exactly?

I imagine the only way they could explain why Pepper is never in these movies anymore.

But it sort of compounds, or rather starts a trend, onto the fact that Tony is continuously losing everyone close to him. First he loses Pepper. Then he loses all the team mates that decided to go Team Cap (all of which actually stayed physically intact and fiercely loyal to Cap even after their incarceration). Then his best friend gets incapacitated in battle while Vision is thrown into emotional disarray. Finally when he realizes that he can still "trust" Cap, it turns out that Cap withheld the biggest "betrayal of trust" secret of all away from Tony.

Spidermans banter during the airport scene actually made me chuckle. I rarely chuckle let alone laugh at movies but wow. I'm so proud Tom Holland is British.

Also, that scene where Tony unveils Spiderman costume from the attic...

Loved both after-credit sequences for this too. Wakanda! Distractingly attractive Aunt May!

Still, I was sort of hoping for a post-credits tease depicting Bruce Banner being launched into space.

General Ross: It's like I told em...you're a nuke, Banner. A nuclear missile just waiting to explode. And what do you do with a nuke? You...launch it.

Banner:
Goddamn you, Rooooooooooss!

It's the super soldier serum used to create the other Winter Soldiers.

It was just because Whedon gonna Whedon

That fucking hack .........

Just wake up from that midnight premier. Shit was PACKED TO THE BRIM. Every screen in the cinema was, couldn't eve botter to buy snacks because the line was fucking long.

Can't say nothing that hasn't been said. Best MAHVEL movie ever.

The biggest reactions was Peter introduction, and T'Challa in full Panther mode. But the one that really brought down the house was Scott. People here love him as Ant-Man and once the started to brought L's to everyone and then FUCK! GIANT MAN OUTTA NOWHERE!

Will, of course, watch again. Several times. Movie of the forever.

Just to add, the first mid credits secuence was all **gasp once T'Challa uttered "Let them come" and bam. Giant Panther and scene.

Yeah, I just mean that it's only there to try to trick the audience into think there might be a different conclusion to the film...? It doesn't explain Bucky, it explains a bunch of folks who get shot in the head.

Oh the explanation for Spidey's eyes was fucking exquisite. Maybe my favourite part of the whole movie. Weird as that may sound.

It was great misdirection, IMO. I knew that Bucky had killed Stark's parents and that was who was in the car, but when they revealed the super soldiers, I thought the movie was going in a tired "superheroes fight super bad guys" route. And then BAM! The movie pivots in the right direction, and it makes Zemo a more unique villain at the same time.

Mm this too. Watch Jane Foster disappear in a similar manner.

Natalie Portman always seemed miserable working on the Thor movies, though. It was always my impression Paltrow really enjoys doing these films.

I'd be really shocked if Iron Man 3 is going to be the last we ever see of her.

Outside of Thor and Jane chatting by a campfire for all of forty seconds in the first Thor movie, the character has never shared a very interesting dynamic with Thor in the films. Bring on Sif!

Was thinking about that party scene in AoU with Tony, Rhodes, Thor and Maria Hill..Tony and Thor talking up how much better "my girl" is than the others. Perhaps both trying to one-up each other, while knowing that their relationships are on the rocks. Something that occurred to me once Pepper wasn't there in the beginning. Who knows..

RIP all possibilities of this happening.

Pretend we live in a universe where this even had a .000001% chance of happening.
