Cars 3 Teaser Trailer

Someone said it looks like dream sequence and I agree.

It looks like McQueen's feeling threatened by the advent of fast electric motor cars. Dream is a manifestation of that.

Crazy the difference in art direction, though.

Can't really say there will be a major tone shift based on a teaser.. but that's a pretty good teaser.

It would be pretty hilarious if Pixar turned this into a dark drama with no jokes.

I'm honestly intrigued. Cars is usually my top pick for least enjoyable Pixar movie, but this teaser has got my interest. Well done to that, at least.

While I don't expect it, I wouldn't be shocked if Pixar decided to make a Cars sequel into a (still family-friendly) satire of grim-dark sequels/reboots.

I knew this was gonna be much more somber in tone (it's about McQueen coming to terms with his age and the dawning of the next generation after him) but I wasn't expecting that, goddamn.

If this indicative of the tone of the movie, Pixar must have really took the reception of Cars 2 to heart. It'd be hilarious if this ended up being their darkest and "most adult" film.
Which is ironic seeing as the second Cars movie had on-screen torture and multiple on-screen deaths.

I've said it before and I'll say it again if Cars 2 was a movie featuring any other creature besides anthropomorphic cars it would have been PG-13, easily. It's the only Pixar movie with a legit body count.

I like Cars, so I'm a bit excited. Was a fun movie if you watch NASCAR, which I imagine alienates 96% of the viewing audience.

EDIT: Also lol at the INSANELY realistic lighting

They are totally fucking with the audience. They want this video to go viral. It's just marketing.

Well the trailer did say 'after this everything changes' so that means it changes from the serious tone to the old 'hey kids scream until your parents buy you all these toys' garbage people hated about Cars 2.

Sure, this trailer is taking it up another notch. Subdued colors, and intentionally avoiding showing the eyes and faces of the characters surely wont continue on the film. It's like the fake 80s toy commercials for Toy Story 3 or fake websites and news for disaster movies. Things that have their own tone.

Not really. The plot of the movie deals specifically with McQueen finding himself over the hill. A new generation of supercars he can't keep up with have started showing up and he can't compete anymore.

Brian Fee said:
“Think of where he’d be in his career now in real time,” says Fee. “(McQueen) is not an old man, but he's one of the older cars on the circuit with new rookies coming in. People start to wonder and ask when he might retire.”

These questions grow louder after a race trouncing by upstart Jackson Storm.

“Jackson Storm is the face of these rookies who have come onto the scene,” says Fee. “And McQueen is in a position where his entire racing generation is being pushed out. But it’s too early to be shown the door right now.”

Ramirez aims to help him adapt and close the technical gap. The duo prepare in the racing off-season for McQueen’s one chance to show he’s got the goods in the Florida 500 (the equivalent of the Daytona 500).

“Everyone can relate to feeling like someone is at their heels, that they might be a little outdated in something they used to be very good at, feeling an expiration date. And knowing you need someone to help you get a second chance," says Fee.

I don't think Pixar has ever had a teaser be an actual clip from the movie itself, but this could totally be ripped from the movie going by what the director says. It looks like at some point at the start of the movie (maybe even the opening) we're treated to a race and we see current McQueen and he's not looking too good, especially compared to all the fresh new cars he's racing against. The wreck is gonna happen during that race and it's gonna start McQueen on a Doc Hudson arc and bring everything full-circle back to Cars for him.

This pretty much.

Here's how I see it;

Lighting gets in a accident and retires from racing.

*years pass*

A fan of lighting tracks him down and ask him to train him, lighting refused

Insert wacky hi-jinks with Mater

Lighting opens his heart and trains the kids, etc, etc.

It will basically be a reverse cars 1 plot with Lighting taking the role of Doc Hudson as Pixar loves recycling plots.

Well the trailer did say 'after this everything changes' so that means it changes from the serious tone to the old 'hey kids scream until your parents buy you all these toys' garbage people hated about Cars 2.

They aren't going to kill Lighting or drastically change the tone of the movie.

My 3 year old boy loves everything Cars related. I am hesitant to show him this teaser...he might just break down and cry..

Disney sure makes a fortune from Cars merchandise. My home has quite a bit of them...>_<

"Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my wheel... and my door... even my steering wheel. The chassis I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there. You feel it, too, don't you? I'm gonna make them give back our past."

Can't wait for the scene where McQueen tries to reconnect with his daughter from his first marriage and she immediately tells him to fuck off for trying to be part of her life now after not being there for most of it.

What if its a movie that is slowly growing up with its original audience. 2006 was fun and care free, future full of hope. Fast forward to 2016 where the future is dark and bleak.

This is Brian Fee's first time being a director of a film, so we'll see. Maybe he took some pointers from John Lasseter.

I'm not buying the tone shift, it's a marketing pull.

Oh fudge. (Thanks for posting that). This is going to hit me right where it hurts. Having just turned 40 and feeling the athleticism leaking out of me in a daily basis... I used to be a freak, and mentally I still feel like nothing's changed but it's getting harder and harder to keep up with the next generation.

It's going to be the new Toy Story 3, isn't it?

Ah, Pixar you almost had me if it wasn't for the video description on their official YouTube channel.
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!

Damn, was hopping that McQueen would crash so hard he had to quit racing, and we would get to see him come to terms with the fact that he was handicapped.

The fan theories about the plot sound like the heavily allegorical stuff that Pixar should and does make, while the actual synopsis sounds like the rote drivel that you expect from a 'Cars' movie.

It was fine. Takes a while to get going, but the second half is great fun imo. It also strikes some beautiful themes about raising kids with (mental) disabilities. (Apart from amnesia, Dory seems to suffer from adhd).

Not Pixars best, but a better sequel than for instance Monsters U

Monster U is a way better movie than Dory. So underrated. Dory just gets bonkers by the end. MU has one of Pixar's best endings.
