Maybe this is mere semantics, but I have a question for you guys. Not rhetorical a serious question.

Do you think using the term "Nazi" on a bunch of two-bit idiots kinda "cheapens" the word? I mean, here's a group that was responsible for a world war, the deaths of hundreds of millions, enslavement of innocents, genocide, and mass murder of 6+ million Jews, and we're using the term for a bunch of morons who probably couldn't tell Goebbels from their next door neighbor.

Or maybe the term has just evolved now socially and merely defines any white supremacist.

Again, could be mere semantics, but I don't know... something about using that term, which carries such a big weight for idiot lowlife nobodies makes me feel "ehhh..."

Would appreciate any thoughts.

These guys marchrd with Nazi flags and did the Nazi salute...

What do you think

The two bit idiots with torches is what allowed the original nazi leaders to rise into power. The two bit idiots who vote nazis leaders into power are also nazi. It's an ideology not a select club.

The Nazis were Nazis before they controlled Germany. They started small, they debated with idiot liberals who thought it was a good idea to argue with them in good faith, and slowly, over a period of years, they gained control over the German government democratically until they were too powerful to stop.

So, no, you do not take these people for granted. You call them what they are and you snuff them out before it's too late.

Exactly. People were making light of the alt-right and their Pepe memes the entire election. And then we ended up with a Trump victory and a man like Bannon, that has fueled this sentiment for years, as one of the most powerful people in the country.

We can no longer to take any of these people as a joke.

MSNBC finally acknowledged a police chopper crashing near Charlottesville. Was thinking it might have been bullshit.

And stop responding to that moron before. "Fried chicken"? Soooo fucking obvious.

It goes back further than pepe and the alt-right. All this shit started with GamerGate, but no one payed any attention or did anything about it because video games.

I hate how much I have to use this.

Yeah, I don't understand why people think "freedom of speech" = "you have to accept the shit I say and not treat me like a trash person when I spew garbage."

It is sometimes easy to forget that they were around for decades. The nazi party was founded in 1920. It took almost 20 years to go from that to the actual war. And that is why we should not ignore these events occurring now.

It Werid tumes, I really don't like calling those al right people Nazi as it makes them seem foreign and recent when in reality it plain old American white supremacy which has been apart of American Life since the 200 years.

They're Nazis, plain and simple. They're carrying Nazis flags and have Nazi quotes on their shirts. It's pretty obvious what they are. They need to be called out as Nazis and prevented from growing.

GamerGate was a symptom, not a cause. Perfect example of evil men taking advantage of imbeciles to spread hate, though.

Most nazis were just "a bunch of two-bits idiots" though.

The party was democratically elected in the Reichstag, don't get fooled by their representation in the media.

and just like in the 30s it's the centrists who fetishize civility giving them breathing room with the socialists and unions fighting them in the streets

It's always been there. But thanks to a whole new generation of young idiots who grew up on internet fora the Nazi/Fascist movement has been reinvigorated.

They're carrying Nazi flags, walking around with Hitler quotes on their shirts, doing Heil Hitler salutes and shouting Nazi slogans.

The alt-right associates themselves with Nazism far more than they do with the Klan or any other historical vein of American white supremacy.

So why should we not call a spade a spade?

At least the Germans were suffering from incredible economic devastation and international humiliation when they gave rise to the Nazi party. These fuck-faces are basically doing it as a hobby just because they're big fans of the sort of monstrous shit people get up to in the darkest of times, despite being born into wealth, privilege, and safety almost incomparable in recorded history.

I've got way more sympathy for real Nazis than I do for any fucking traitor American who espouses Nazi ideology.

They never got a majority ether. They got the largest bloc but "only" 30 something percent at most voted for them, then Hitler took advantage of the system.

If trump succeeds via voter disenfranchisement and attacks on judiciary and scares the free press it is possible he could turn his 30 percent of adult American vote into a similar dictatorship. Good thing is he appears incompetent, and learns from mistakes too slowly, if at all.

Guess I'm breaking out the hard liquor tonight. Fuck, this is all so enraging and depressing at the same time.

Bad enough dealing with my in-laws as rabid right wingers, but while discussing today's events I had one of my college friends--who is otherwise as liberal as I am--turn out to be a "blue lives matter" supporter.

Surprised there isn't a mod monitoring this thread. The internet is on fire with alt-right sock puppets trying to change the narrative on this shit.

That troll's banned thankfully. Nazi's from Reddit and 4chan are like a cancer that tries to influence debate across the internet. You can see them on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter quite easily with their overuse of the word "deplorable", "MAGA"and emojis (never should have been added to Unicode) in their usernames alone. Fucking insidious.

GamerGate was a recruitment tool. It increased the amount of supporters for white supremacy.

I heard White Supremacists/Nazis talk about gaming like it was their religion; how women were taking that from them and their identity as a "people" was under threat. It shouldn't have surprised anyone that they would move on from hating women to hating everyone who wasn't a WASP.

If somebody walks like a Nazis, talks like a nazi, throws the hitler salute like a nazi....I don't think it's wrong to call them nazi

But does that REALLY make you a Nazi? Really? 🤔

We need to wait for them to actually commit genocide, round up minorities and take over countries before we can start debating on calling them Nazi's or not. Lets not fly off the handle and hurt anyones feelings here.

Wait but at that point they would be just following orders!

Can't fault them for that either.
