choose one sequel that you wish that was never made

Zelda_II_The_Adventure_of_Link_box.jpg

Actually, I kind of liked it.

Wow, some of these are like WTF? I could see certain aspects of these games being bad or departures from past games that might not have sit well with some folks, but many of them were good in almost all other respects. To say that they shouldn't have been made is a bit much.

That being said, I definitely agree on DMC2. That game was just all sorts of bad and broken.

Asheron's Call 2 - Turbine was more focused on developing/licensing an MMO engine than developing a great game and the poo-tastic result was Asheron's Call 2. Very unfortunate as a good sequel to Asheron's Call would be awesome!

Are you fucking kidding?

If it wasn't created when it was, maybe the series would have progressed differently and gotten much better with each iteration instead of having two spectacular titles, and then fading into oblivion.

I honestly do not believe that the Konami of today has what it takes to create another Suikoden on the same level of this one. For me, the series effectively died with Suikoden II.

It's funny to see people list MGS2 and FFXIII.

Look this thread is about hate. Do you hate Suikoden 2? Would have rather never experienced it? If not, your answer is just being a little too highbrow for this thread.

I personally loved Suikoden 3 and 5, though they were not as good as 2

LO is better than FFXIII though, and I know I didn't see that coming until I heard the impressions of the Japanese game.

Still, FFXIII isn't a sequel I wish didn't exist because I like FXII even less and only played about three hours of XI, FF has always been hit and miss.

Why has no one mentioned:

It has never been the same since...

.........

................

Suikoden 2 is easily the best in the entire fucking series. It stepped up EVERYTHING from #1 in every single fucking way.

Your opinion sucks.

To be honest though, the X series took a steep quality dive after X5. I do hope to get more X games, but only after Capcom's love for the series has returned because it became clear real quick that they started to just become cash-ins.
X5 was Inafune's last game in the series.

X8 was good, but word is Inafune stepped in to block any further X games because it was actively conflicting with his Zero storyline (though he started integrating the further X games in the ZX/A series).

People like myself who actually are fond of MGS4 and voted for it to be GOTY are just sick of arguing with the very vocal haters of the game.
That's funny because the arguments on the MGS4 side always seem to just use the "haters going to hate" defense.

No.

I will pick more than just one because other people in the thread is doing that.

*sight* the two most boring Zelda games ever, back to back too, and because of them now I don't care for the series at all.

I literally fell asleep playing it, the game felt so boring and drab, Link has always been a boring character but the other characters and the game world just weren't very interesting.

StuBurns said:
One of them wasn't even ambiguously subjective and still a no? Damn.

FFXII is really bad.
Except for the ways in which it is awesome, which is almost all ways. Best Final Fantasy since VI, by far.

I think it's the worst in the series personally (outside of XI which I haven't given a fair shake too, and XIV which I literally haven't touched). I know lots of people love it, but I think it's pretty terrible.

I wish I played this magical Lost Odyssey that was good and not a very generic jrpg.
I wish I played this magical Final Fantasy XIII that was even on par with a very generic jrpg.

Here we can trade copies. I have the game you want and you have the game I want. I think you're overseas though so shipping may be costly, that and pal systems confusion? Trust me though, this version of XIII is pretty amazing.

Ever since this ff released, console ff's have never been the same. I am saying this title assuming that if it wasn't released, ff's today would be more akin to ff1-ff9.

Besides the horrid online games this is by far the worst mainline FF. What an utter disappointment.

Shit good point, we'll have to forever wonder what could have been.

I didn't like XII that much, but I think it's way better than XIII.

Dino Crisis 3, Tanked the series, nothing more to say.
Jak II, probably the best example of a developer putting their head up their ass, listening to market executives about what's popular, and ruining one of the best Platformers of last gen.

On FFX, I can't agree with it ruining the franchise nor any of the PS2 makes. X,X2,and XII all fantastic battle systems. PS1 gen was the lowest point for the series. Both VII and VIII are throwaway entries, while IX being the only true classic(Arguably the best FF since it's jump to PS family)

Hey, I'll give you FFXIV, though it's not so much horrid as it is released unfinished, but ffXI back in the day was a good mmo.

Had Vann not been added, and Basche remained the main character, it would of been an amazing game.
You know what, that's absolutely fucking true.

Yo! Leave the amazing game that is X out of this. It's the merger between Square and Enix that ruined everything... So blame that.

I don't think the change of main characters would fix the fact the story falls apart which is'nt Vanns fault or the gameplay in which the leveling system might as well not be there.

I wouldn't even choose Metal Gear Solid 4, because it still has some really good bits that make the game worthwhile even with all the massive amounts of stupid that accompany those bits.
I think MGS4 is a very valid choice. It's good bits(few in my opinion) are overshadowed by everything else.

-MGS3 was in the jungle and that served as an awesome sneaking environment. A battlefield, well that is a very exciting idea and MGS4 blows it. So while the first two chapters are cool they also just remind me of what could have been and how much the game waste it's potential. And lets not even talk about the non existent faction mechanic.

-Gameplay is cool yeah and Sneaking is fun, but the bosses are beyond terrible and the parts that add variety to the game are pretty shitty. The bike scene has no tension at all, making it feel very pointless.

-Story, well the argument that MGS is crazy already is a very lame argument. We are all already aware of this fact, but that dosen't excuse how bad this is. Character assassination for one thing are not excusable and no Raiden doing flips and stuff does not make him cool. He is more "emo" in this game then in 2. The attempts to answer the questions are very lazy and aren't actually crazy. Look, I was already on board with the arm thing and MGS3 even makes sense of it and it works in the MGS universe. The twist regarding it in 4 is terrible and reeks of an attempt to force the same feeling you get from the Boss in 3. It's lame and even more stupid then possible.

Gotta go with Bioshock 2. I'm playing through it right now and it just feels like so uninspired. Whereas the first one instilled a sense of discovery, this one just feels like a linear corridor shooter. Also, the tapes in Bioshock 2 this time around are far too frequent and really just aren't very interesting.

Yeah, I'll go with Tekken 4

It wasn't that bad a game, but it was such a step in the wrong direction. And as a result, after the insane investment so many arcade owners put into it going from the success of Tekken Tag Tournament, it had a very poor revenue return crippling the vast majority of arcades dedicated to fighting games across North America.

Hence I personally believe Tekken 4 kick-started the downfall of arcades... BUT it wasn't solely responsible, just a major catalyst for the inevitable.

I could have done without Final fantasy XI or XIV being released. Not that they are completely awful or anything (maybe XIV) it's just that all they seemed to do was slow down the series' momentum. I would would like to see their art teams work on a single player RPG though.
