that's a problem with/choice of gaf. For some reason it falls back to IE7 rendering.

I am glad I am not the only one here!

I get blank single posts like this as well:

Probably a <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible"> tag in GAF.

Ah yup, sixth line of this page's source:

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

That solves that then.

For the folks complaining about Chrome not having mouse gestures, you do know that there are extensions for that, right?

I use Chrome for just about everything. I only use Firefox to download porn flv files.

What? IE9 has some of the best dev tools. The only feature it lacks is right-click inspect.

The dev tools are abysmal. They are slow and clunky, Javascript error reporting sucks and the interface is brutal.

What? Evilore, can you please explain if you are reading this?

I still use FireFox because they have the most powerful extension support out of all the browsers. Chrome's extension support is hampered and is part of the reason why Chrome doesn't have noscript yet.

In the end, a good amount of people will still use IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and I still have to check everything in a billion browsers. Chrome getting more marketshare doesn't change that, but let's hope this competition keeps all the parties pushing out better versions to make browsing faster and easier.

And it's rather sad that people are complaining about the lack of Adblock for a browser. If the ads bother you that much, don't go to the website. I hope IE will never allow that 'feature' at least.

Whenever Adblock Plus works as good on Chrome as it does on FF (it just doesn't block stuff as good from my experience) and I can get addons like Video Download (to download any video on a site like Youtube) then I could try Chrome. But FF works just fine for me.

Giving Firefox a try. It's definitely a lot better than last time I used it, but I'm still not convinced it's as quick as Chrome in real world usage for me.

Chrome is the only browser to not give me memory errors and has all the plugins I want. All 1 of them!

I tried FF for a while and I actually had that before Chrome but things just worked out for Chrome to win me over. It wasn't some browser fanboy allegiance. IE has been ok but just a pain to use for a while. I think it would be tolerable on mobile platforms though.

It's so great that consumers have so much choice when it comes to things like web browsing now. It is very odd that Google haven't sorted out Chrome for Android yet, I got my first ever Android device last October (Galaxy S2) and love everything about it but was shocked to find it doesn't have Chrome pre-installed, seems such a no brainer. Good to know it is on the way though!

Android handsets tend to have up to date webkit based browsers -- the only android platforms I'd really like to see a full featured Chrome on are the large-screen handsets, tablets and laptop hybrids.

I must say actually I have never had a problem with the stock web browsing on my GS2, only thing I would want is some form of tabbed browsing so I can quickly flick between pages. No big deal though.

"Not convinced", heh. Reminds me of something Stumpokapow said in the WP7 thread.

Yeah spot on, people bash IE because of the name now rather than actually using it and seeing it's a perfectly good browser now.

Microsoft reap what they sew. Firefox is experiencing the same thing now, as people leave for Chrome largely due to perception issues rather than real ones. *shrugs*

FF is the new IE.

Also, Firefox has live bookmarks. Why the other browsers haven't copied that idea, I'll never know.

imo live bookmarks are terrible. RSS readers should allow you to read the content without going off to the site. Before I switched to google reader I used the built in rss reader in opera which is fantastic. Absolutely destroys live bookmarks.

EDIT:
also I'm not sure if people are trolling with the "chrome for android" comments. The android browser IS chrome mobile.

I tried Chrome out for a couple of weeks, but I ended up going back to Opera. I installed a plug-in for mouse gestures in Chrome, but it was disabled on some pages for security reasons. That was annoying. The password manager just didn't work with some sites that use particular log-in methods. Even just scrolling up and down regular web pages seemed jerky in comparison.

There are other little things too. In Chrome, I can highlight a word/term, right-click it, then do a Google search for that word/term. In Opera, I can do the same, but I can search using any of the search engines and custom searches I've created, so I can highlight the name of an XBLA game on here, for example, and search for it on the Marketplace on Xbox.com.

Chrome didn't seem very customisable either. In Opera, I can remove any buttons I like. I can also choose from hundreds of custom buttons and just drag and drop them from a web page straight to the toolbar, so for instance, I have a home button that has a drop-down bookmarks list next to it. Some of the buttons I have in my Opera toolbar do different things depending if you click them, or hold the mouse button down. I couldn't see any way of doing things like that with Chrome.

Also, when I first started using a browser with tabs, I had the tabs at the bottom of the screen and so that's where I like them to be placed. In Opera, I can put the tabs on any of the 4 sides of the screen. In Chrome they're stuck at the top.

It's a good browser, but it's not for me.

I can run tests and time pages etc. but if the experience feels slower or more clunky (which is the primary reason I can't use IE at all) then that's the only test I care about. I'm spending some time with it at work anyway, I'm not going to dismiss it without giving it a good go - until I switched to Chrome last year I was a pretty avid FF supporter.

I moved to chrome from firefox years ago due to firefox performance issues with multiple tabs. I see no reason to return to firefox. I sync all my bookmarks/history across multiple platforms using chrome. Chromes performace is always cutting edge. I'm not sure where firefox can compete. They would have to really come up with some killer feature for me to move back. Firefox still seems slower and clunky when I do use it.

IE isn't even on my radar.

The browser on android is webkit based, but it's no relation to Chrome.

There will however be a Chrome specific version for android soon.

I'm getting memory leaks like crazy from Firefox 9. 10 tabs and its over a 1GB in memory use. I can close all my tabs and wait for about 5 minutes and still see 550MB in the taskmanager for firefox.exe. It's sad to see them fall apart because they have a great extensions collection.
If you add up the memory each of Chrome's tabs takes you'll find it's equally bloated memorywise. Chrome keeps it per-process though, which means when you close the tab it kills all the memory associated with it.

with Windows 8 coming out, i think that will help keep IE afloat unless google releases a metro version of Chrome at release. But i'm glad to see people using the better browser though. (although IE is a lot better than it used to be, which i guess isn't saying much, but it is a good alternative now at least).

I can't help but feel that a good number of memory leaks that Firefox still experienced are caused by problematic extensions versus Firefox itself. I suppose an argument could be made that Firefox shouldn't allow extensions to do that, but I don't feel as if that's a very compelling argument.

i use this instead of gestures, swiping while holding down mouse button is not fun.

How overt do think the swiping for gestures is? It's no more than one or two cm of movement.

I still use Firefox. I need to give Chrome a shot at some point, given all the other Google services I use.

Do Gmail and Google Music have any extra bells and whistles in Chrome?

Chrome is the best hands down. I'd use IE over FF. Bloated piece of crap. However I'm not going to use either so it doesn't matter.

I use Chrome so I hope it's secure but 'nobody tried' isn't the same as 'nobody could'.

I'd argue if nobody bothered it's because they had no idea how to so figured why not waste their time at the event.

It's not like they think all these exploits up on the fly. Research goes into this. If nobody came to the table, it's because nobody thought they had anything to bring to the table.

Similarly though, trying to hack something at Pwn2Own and failing isn't the same as "nobody could".

There was money on the table. If they could hack it they'd hack it. Its not like they go into these competitions blindly and without known exploits. Which is why the "time" to hack is always misleading. So it is safe to assume if no one tried to exploit Chrome it is because no one knew how to do it.

Since this thread is about how awesome Chrome is, I'd like to ask this here, since I've given the browser many chances:

Can someone tell me why Chrome is the only browser in which I can't ctrl+i and ctrl+b to italic and bold, when making forum posts?

This isn't directly related to Chrome but I hate Google's html5 player. Sometimes it runs well other times it runs like ass on both Chrome and Firefox.
