There is frenuloplasty, partial circumcision and dorsal slit. Full circumcision is rarely necessary.
I did a frenuloplasty a few years ago, and it worked great (a few months without proper sex after.... But now everything is fine).

I had to get cut in my mid-20s for medical reasons and it dramatically reduced any sensation from sex. It was nescessary because the opening in my foreskin was small...so if I got a boner..that actually fucking hurt. Did you ever see images of birth? Well it was a bit like that... my dickhead trying to get out.
But to get back to your question... yeah getting a boner hurts ....but tbh everything hurts after that surgery. To be fair...I also got unlucky. They wrapped my dick in regular bandages after surgery. Pulling that bandage of is the most painful thing I ever endured in my life. My brother told me he pulled the blankets over his ears to muff the screams I let out.

The healing is pretty fast though. While it seemed like an eternity, in truth it was just a few weeks. The memories last a life time though.
