COD BO7 debuts on Steam with peak CCU of 87k

I still think the game will be one of the best-selling titles of the year, but I don't believe it will reach the level of success expected by Activision/Microsoft.

Solution to what? The game continues to sell multiple millions of copies.

How the fuck did Vanguard sell that many?
And we know black ops 6, in less than a full calendar year, is the best selling game on ps5.
In the US.

I think the recent-ish CoD I liked the most was probably MW 2019. It nailed the big maps (war or whatever the mode was called).
Can't wait for all the "fan favourite" maps to be re-added to yet another CoD game.
what the fuck, does the campaign have coop? theres no way this is possible. This seems unreal and idiotic if the singleplayer doesnt have coop
4 player co-op I think.

With COD being clearly down yoy this year regardless of the reasons, it will be interesting to see which kind of creative financials Microsoft will make up to justify the ugly gaming results this holiday season from dead Xbox series to Activision already underperforming 🫣:pie_roffles:

Zero COD players want a futuristic Call of Duty. Not a single one. This is Treyarch being divas "we're burnt out of the modern era. we don't even really like guns so let us make robot guns!"

I knew this would put a dent in the brand. It's time to cut the Treyarch leadership loose. They've been a liability for over a decade now. Blops 2 isn't coming back yall, it's over.

The footage I've seen is just sad man. Call of Duty used to be SO good back in the original games and then modern warfare 1 and 2 and og black ops. It's really unfortunate what has happened to the series.

Battlefield and Arc Raiders are definitely offering something that shooter fans are really craving. COD is not it anymore.

Aren't a lot of people playing it on game pass where those other games aren't on game pass?

I hate COD but just thinking logically.

This is horrible. The "Call of Duty" app includes BO6, Warzone, and BO7. Prior to BO7's launch, the Call of Duty app was getting CCU peaks of 40k to 50k so the incremental attributed to BO7 is less than this 87k, probably more like 50k on its own. Maybe less. There are very few Steam reviews for the game too versus what big launches get.

The one from last year was also on Gamepass and apparently did much better numbers.
It doesn't necessarily mean it's a flop though, as I think COD is bigger on consoles than PC.

Still, I think between BF6 and Arc Raiders it's not surprising they've had a softer launch on Pc this year.

The cost of developing and maintaining a beast production like COD means that they need to sell gangbusters just to get off the ground. Even if you assume Game Pass growth, this is bad news all around.

This thread is gonna be fun to revisit when the annual cod once again ends up the highest selling game of the year. 🤭
Hey I'm expecting it to be at top again too, especially with GTA delayed.

But also come on man. If the game is really coming in as soft as these numbers would suggest that's a big giant problem for MS. Debt servicing (or lost profit on expenditures) and cost of production do not automatically scale down with sales numbers.

This got me while I am drinking fuck you lol.

To be fair COD is also on game pass. If it wasn't the that 87k would have been 88k ( kidding of course but it would be way more ) .

If I have to guess the average person who is into these games probably bought BF6 bexJse of the hype and it came first, arc raiders because it's not expensive and hype with it ( personally I think it's shit but that's because I hate these kind of games ) and probably to save money he would game pass call of duty for a month or 2 and save money

Very well may be the case, but wouldn't you have expected higher player counts for an annual COD than this?
Probably but it seems like cod HQ has a persistent spot in the most played chart, on consoles at least.

Loaded up the game, went through the menus to find that the campaign was only coop - sat through the non shippable cut scenes, also looked up wtf was going on with the campaign, saw that it's always online, cannot be paused and likely have to repeat crap if anyone's connection drops, quit and uninstalled, no thank you
Been playing cod for the campaign and zombies off and on for years, but this crap? Not worth the disk install size, glad it's just another gamepass game I didn't spend a penny on right now, but man I don't think sales are going to be good this year just on initial reviews and reactions

Damn. A COD campaign that absolutely blows? Completely unexpected.
It used to be a thing.
still sucks the pre release shit made it look like black ops cold war.. and that campaign was dope.

This is the first black ops game i didnt get day one since 4 .

Fuck man.. i do hope zombies will be better then cold war so i can actually give a fuck

It's COD. They gonna take 3-5 years and slap something new to last another decade. They can take the losses like during Infinite Warfare.

I soothe my soul to see COD struggle though.

Infinite Warfare is absolutely banger FPS single player title, one of the goats of CoD. Recommend everyone play it.

Not sure what everyone's problem is. These are the best mp maps I've seen on cod in years. Guess people care a lot more about the campaign mode than I thought. I never touch it.

From a bystander's perspective strongly urging people to play the campaign in coop and having it always online with no pauses are incredibly bad moves. It's literally one mode for people who buy/play CoD for the singleplayer stuff and they had to ruin even that.

It says CO-OP Campaign in the menu. There is no real single player choice.

You can choose to be the only player added to the crew though and show yourself as offline and deactivate fill up. That makes it like a single player campaign. I never see the AI crew on the map, but tbh it's super weird because I'm Rambo most of the time but whenever there is a cutscene the rest of the crew is suddenly there beside me.

The real problem here is that COD is now owned by Microsoft… Forget about everything else.
Do you think the general public cares about the bullshit that goes on forums like this? How do you explain the marked drop in interest in this year CoD.

Forget about the foolery and fuckery that happens on forums between us fanatics. These numbers are real and they don't paint a good picture of what's going on.

However at the end of the day us talking on a forum means nothing for MS Gaming. All they care about is $. We will see how successful they are.
Not necessarily by what they say, we should judge them by the actions they take.

So we'll see what happens however I expect layoffs. I was already after following S SneakersSO but if their cash cow starts running dry oh boy. Maybe they already forecasted this and the layoffs S SneakersSO alluded to early next year is related?

Explain? Thats easy. Its an off year with lots of competition for once.

MW4 will do gangbusters. If not they will do a soft reboot. The franchise isn't going to die.

People here need to get real. People saying ghost of yotei is a success with 3 million sales. Sony would happily ditch that series for a sales juggernaut like cod.

There is no solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Until cod starts regularly selling less than 10m 2 years in a row, it won't change.

2022
2023
2024

These are conveniently missing from that list ,and we all know why :P

And most probably 2025 and 2026 (due to GTA6 total domination) will be missing from any list as well. Its all about those engagement now, not sales. Since the sales will be nothing to brag about in comparison to the previous titles.

I agree with clarky clarky that it is well within the realms of possibility that this is an off year, rather than COD losing its appeal long term.

A few years ago, before Microsoft bought Activision, Call of Duty Vanguard came out and Activision had to tell shareholders why it had failed commercially.

I would imagine if Vanguard had come out under Microsoft's watch it'd be held up as evidence of Microsoft's meddling and cluelessness about how to run the franchise.

As is, I would think that this could be a strong indication of it being possible for Call Of Duty to have an off year, no matter who owns the company. And, that there is evidence that even after a flop the following title can be a big hit (as with MWII that followed Vanguard).

No doubt "Microsoft Have Ruined COD" will be the line that the usual suspects cling to for a while.
