COD is the ultimate “in-between” game

Yeah I don't play with sound off but I do use the integrated Spotify app on the PlayStation and just listen to my music playlist while I play 6v6 multiplayer. I can still hear guns, explosions and some callouts but not a lot of footsteps unless they're close by.

This brings up a good point that I've been thinking about lately. There's been so much discourse, especially with content creators regarding footstep sounds, UAVs and red dots on the mini map, etc. I will blatantly admit I never use a UAV (except DMZ at final exfil to spot enemy campers and to avoid certain areas) and never look at the mini map. Here's the odd thing, 9 times out of 10 I'm in the top spot and always in the top three.

This brings up two questions:
1) Are these things really necessary to be good at the game or are they just a crutch for some players?
2) When does the SBMM kick in that everyone rallies against & hates because I never seem to jump in any harder lobbies after four or five wins like everyone claims?

Maybe I'm a bot and don't know it but why would it keep me in these lobbies if I keep winning and have a good KD ratio. Every lobby that I join is pretty consistent with no wild swings in difficulty. (Everything above is in reference to 6v6 MP and not Warzone which I know footsteps and UAVs play a bigger part.)
I like UAV for the added XP but mainly run it on medium to larger maps because like this last time we had Rust 24/7 with how bad the spawns were I was not getting a lot of 4 kill streaks

I really liked the mosquito drone over the UAV as well

The mosquito drone was cool. It was pretty much a guaranteed free kill when you launched it in the sky. I also liked the other drone that was like a flying grenade in your loadout (can't remember the name). It took a little practice to get the aiming down, but I cleared out a lot of Hardpoint spots with double or triple kills.

The breacher drone was so much fun

I've missed out on every campaign since advanced warfare, played tiny bit of infinite warfare which seemed really good, can't wait for that gamepass drop🤤

Wow I forgot about gamepass. Only play campaigns, for multiplayer I actually prefer OW2, less hectic, more relaxing.

The content that each game comes with is insane actually if u look at it
A movie like campaign 5 6 hours
16 multiplayer maps
Zombies
Dmz
And then warzone 3 in December(I know its separate and free but it's sort of a part of it )
When u combine all that it's one hell of a package for 70 dollars

The last CoD I played was the mobile one during launch for about a week. I haven’t played picked up a mainline game since MW3 (ps3) which I only played the opening sequence.

I don’t know what it is, but I find the games boring and repetitive.

It still has the best value battle pass out of any game on the market, which is ridiculous when you actually think about it

No doubt Microsoft will find a way of changing that in the next few years

It’s a seasonal thing for me. I play them every year around fall. The rest of the year I don’t exactly play Call of Duty. What’s weird is that I don’t want to miss the latest installment even if it’s just a season type of thing.

I haven’t bought COD in a while (I think since MW19) and I had such a blast playing MW3. The game itself is so much fun.

After going through FF16 and AC6, it just feels like the ultimate fun game.

I know it tends to be cool to shit on these games, but I genuinely believe there’s a reason they sell like they do.

To me, just hopping into a Team Deathmatch in between Starfield sessions is the ultimate palette cleanser.

It also doesn’t hurt that the campaign is short, linear and action-packed. A welcome change to all these 100-hour padded games that have been the trend for the last 5-10 years.

Anyone else actually excited for the next COD?

Even then, a month or two is way more value that you get than most AAA imo
Must suck to look at games like this.
That's not really fair as buying a $70 game can be a pretty big purchase for some and if torn between two games lets just say SM2 vs COD and one is going to give you 20-30 hours of gameplay and you delete it and one you're going to play several months I would say it can be a very valid point in decision making

COD games are deeper today, I have battlefield ranked over it. Gameplay wise I have to give it to battlefield.

2042 is actually in a decent spot right now and its sad it didn't launch like it is today and build from there

I still prefer Hell Let Loose for my shooter itch when I have the time to invest because BF and HLL both can take a good amount of time to play a match

The problem is, when you buy COD, you are basically asking Activision to run all these tricks on you to get you deep into the GAAS spending. Now, I don't care waht anyone says here "just ignore it lmao", like those big fancy casinos they build in Vegas, if it didn't work, they wouldn't do it. I don't think for many people COD is a $70 purchase.

I genuinely enjoyed the MW3 beta, but then I think of that live service morass the game has become and it's just like, ew.

I have said this before but like my 2 nephews they had to own everything that ever hit the Fortnite store because of FOMO

For me personally I usually buy the premium edition because I do play about until the end of the first battlepass then almost always tired of it just picking it back up here and there but I rarely ever buy anything past my initial purchase

I agree that COD very cleverly uses psychological tricks to get you to spend, but I’m yet to see them asking you to pay for playable content or use pay to win tactics. All new guns can be earned for free on the Battle Pass. This is different from games like Diablo 4 or Destiny 2, that ask you to pay for seasonal CONTENT, which in many times contain exclusive weapons that can be used later in PVE or PVP.

If you really think about, COD has one of the best monetization schemes. Yes, they invest deeply in pop culture sponsorships and deals to get you to FOMO into buying Nicki Minaj, but I have yet to see a meta weapon or activity or map that is locked behind anything other than the initial $70 purchase.

...free on the Battle Pass.

wut

On some level, I agree with you that COD has a "better" monetization scheme than those other games but it's still just various levels of smelly poo. And quite frankly when I open up COD these days it looks like a shitty Chinese mobile game, the sales pitch goes so hard and it's so cheesy.

The Battle Pass gives you free stuff (you dont have to buy it) one in 5 items is free on every section.
Ok, fair enough, but this is one of the main tricks that these publishers use to get you to spend money. If you're on the "free track", then you are gaining XP slower, and you constantly see what you are missing out on. At some point they expect you to say "screw it, it's only $10" and then spend it. And people do. That's the point of this whole thing. It's like the "free" money that FanDuel gives you when you place your first bet. It's drug dealer shit. Now just because it's not as blatantly exploitative and scummy as Destiny or Diablo does not mean it's not bad.

I am averse to FPS genre, so I just play a few races of Forza Horizon 3/4 or do a Survival or Arcade Mode run in a fighting game of my choosing.

Remember when everyone would collectively shit on call of duty accross gaming forums? Well that's changed now because Microsoft own them. It's now awesome and you better not hate on it because it means your trolling.

If anything, it works the other way around. Everyone likes to shit on Microsoft and praise Sony. There is a Sony/Nintendo bonus for critics. There is no such thing as a MSFT bonus, as evidenced by Starfield, which was a completely fine game but still got shat on. Meanwhile, SpiderMan is just another Ubisoft open world movie game and gets 90+ Meta.

Starfield got it easy. Its a 7/10 game so it's lucky to be in the 80s. Its stuck in early 2000s game design. If that's fine to you than you need to raise your standards. Check the Microsoft store reviews. They are shitting on it too. Are they biased aswell? This victim mentality is pathetic. Nobody has it in for Microsoft.

COD used to be my ultimate "in-between" game too but this shit right here deters me to no end. I just want to pop in and play a few rounds of deathmatch. I don't care about what "season" it is and don't want to watch an unskippable trailer. I stupidly paid $70 for MWII but you wouldn't know it by the menus they are presenting. I have to find MWII and select it to play, even though it's the only one installed on the console. The whole idea of having all the COD's under a launcher is a dark monetization pattern.

I think COD fills a nice void and even me being an old guy still think COD is cool and I am no shill because I couldn't care less what game you or anyone else plays

Hows that for my own version of chatwhogivesafuck?

I cant see myself playing cod multiplayer. I sometimes see clips on twitter with crazy skins and running around like poisoned rats. I played lot of cod2 and mw1 back in my teens, this new "cod" is simply not for me. Sometimes I play COD:UO on a server with almost 100% returning players. I suck at the game but still enjoy it more.

Honestly id play more of cod if they'd stop making arena style maps and just go back to what made cod good with good map designs like mw, mw2 and black ops, big maps just dont even exist is the series anymore and they havnt since black ops 3 imo the series went down hill when they started appealing to the esport freaks starting with mw3

they have 5 hour (still surprisingly boring) campaigns that require 200gb eleborate installs,
so if you're not into multi, its a totally lost franchise.

Just thought you were taking shots at anyone who enjoyed COD as that seems to be the thing to do

My bad it’s hard for me to tell intent sometimes
