COD Xbox one will cloud for hosting dedicated servers

I don't think that's true, do you have a source?

“Microsoft is subsidizing cloud utility for developers—essentially, it will cost developers nothing to build on/access the Azure platform. So while I don’t believe it’s mandatory for a title to offer dedicated servers, there wouldn’t be any investment on the dev side to do so, which means… Yup, dedicated servers for everything. (Certainly for marquee MP experiences like BF3/4, COD, Titanfall, Destiny, etc). This is a huge part of why “persistent online world” was such a buzzphrase at E3 this year.”

? I'm confused on what you're saying. PC had "dedicated servers" but not dedicated servers?

This is different. This means ghosts on xbone will be using the azure server network as their dedicated servers. This is much much better.

I'm now getting ghosts. Dedicated servers confirmation was all I needed

If it still works like this:

As in, I dont have server browsers to pick exactly which servers I want to join (USA only, less than 50 ping, nuketown only). It's matchmaking on 'dedicated servers + lag comp' without a region filter. What the hell is the point of having dedicated servers if I'm liable to join a server in brazil? (and yes it happens) Servers cant even have ping limitations on them so even if I do find a server that I have 30ping in....the next dude might have 150ping and can be in Canada.

PC community is STILL asking

Then it will still be a shitty experience and wont feel much different from P2P, especially if they add in the much hated lag compensation to "smooth things out". If there's no region filter or universal ping limits (server based as in nobody with a ping higher than 50 can join this server) then the experience wont be much different. The 'host advantage' will be spread out across multiple players. Some players will be ahead of you and others wont, instead of just 1 (the host).

It's pretty bad on the PC

There is no P2P at all on X1. Dedicated servers for every game, every match.

This is a fantasy that Krilekk has. MS has said that devs can use the cloud f.ex. for dedicated servers, not that all Xbone online games would have dedicated servers. Publishers/developers are going to have to pay for all the cloud services they use - albeit MS subventing the process a little bit.

The source is a wired journalist. Not microsoft. I don't see why quoting it helps.

Yeah, I want MS to explain it to me like I'm a Seven year old, nice and clear with no ambiguity.

This COD business is only a good thing though and I doubt it'll be the only game that gets this treatment.

Just go by your gut. Do you really think MS will bankroll EVERY SINGLE multiplayer XB1 game? 1st party and "selected value partners" of course (think Titanfall) but no way is every single getting free Azure VMs or any other "Cloud" benefits. If they pay up, sure.

So You're Tier 3/4 ? I imagine bringing any machine to your coutry must cost a lot :)
Lol I don't know what tier I am lolll but I only live there :)

As the cost of import it would be around 100$ only with custom and everything just like my xbox 360 import charged me. Which is still cheaper than buying from black market. Ps3 here was aroind 1500$ whwn it came out

Boom...well there it is.

Xbox One will be my console of choice for online multiplayer gaming. I'm pretty sure Battlefield 4, Titanfall, and Halo 5 will follow suit.

Battlefield 3 already has dedicated servers on both consoles this generation and the new Halo is confirmed to have them.

I will honestly be salty if there's not something similar on PS4. That, or this will just push me over to Battlefield instead (assuming that still has dedis).

This is not confirmed as far as i know.

It isn't. Besides, smaller scaled games do not need dedicated servers and would be silly.

Is this a PR thing or are they really going to use Dedi's on only one console? Probably not.

MS most likely gave them a significant discount (free?) on their Azure network and Activison went for it. They can go for parity on the PS4 if given the incentive, I'm sure.

True. I also think that they said "support for dedicated servers" regarding Call of Duty, that is mostly what i'm wondering about. It doesnt seem clear to me that every single COD online match will run on dedicated servers.

I don't expect it to be much less than Battlefield 3 on consoles. IIRC, it had them for every game and allowed people to rent out servers with user control. In any case, it's not impossible to do so.

With new co-op mode, exclusive multiplayer features and downloadable content, “Call of Duty: Ghosts” will be best on Xbox One:

The award-winning team from Infinity Ward unveiled a new co-op mode, “Blitz,” for “Call of Duty: Ghosts.” Mark Rubin, Executive Producer at Infinity Ward, took to the stage at the Xbox Showcase to announce “Call of Duty: Ghosts” on Xbox One will use Xbox Live Cloud hosting to provide dedicated servers for multiplayer matches, ensuring the best multiplayer experience will be on Xbox One. And, gamers will get all downloadable content for “Call of Duty: Ghosts” first on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

That wording seems pretty significant. They cover co-op (Blitz), exclusive MP features (dedis) and timed DLC in that order.

Hopefully Activision and/or Sony wise-up, and announce dedicated servers for the PS4 version also. For them to give HALF their loyal fanbase the shaft in terms of gameplay features is simply unprecedented in its vileness.

Timed DLC is one thing, but when the core gameplay experience is significantly differentiated on one platform, that's the final straw. This type of alienation of a player base should be a PR nightmare, and it shouldn't be rewarded.

I'd be shocked if there wasn't dedicated servers for the PS4 too, given that Microsoft did not tout this as an exclusive feature. If you don't hear "exclusive", 99% of the time it isn't.

Remember, Ubisoft, EA and Activision (with Destiny) host their own dedicated servers, so I don't see why they couldn't here either.

Maybe now I'll be able to get four bars in a game when playing with non-EU players.

In previous COD games, I would always have three bars when in a non-EU-hosted game. Giving players a slight advantage due to bullet lag.

This is huge for people who want the best online experience for CoD. I remember playing MW2 on 360 and experience all the bad netcode and spikes playing online with a ~3-5MB connection.

Well I'm a "glass half full kind of guy" but no, I don't think that every single game will have dedicated servers. I don't think that every game needs them. The way I read this is that MS have made incorporating dedicated servers into a game extremely easy, literally plug and play. And yes, I think money will be involved but I suspect that it will be competitive with other options, especially considering the ease of use that I suspect MS's Azure will bring to the table.

Sony better address this and confirm they also have dedicated servers. If they omit any confirmation they probably won't have them. Similar to the way Xbox has never confirmed they have 8 gigs of inferior ram.

Well as i posted above, it seems MS slipped in the word exclusive either in confidence, or as an initial smokescreen. Its a loaded enough word that they have been using a lot in the xbox One reveal plans that i don't see them making such a mistake (assuming there will be dedicated servers on PS4 as well)

People still don't know it's not MS choose which game can have dedicated servers,it's developers/publishers choose they use dedicated servers or not?

This will likely set the precedent for all future installations of Call of Duty, and PS4 will most likely be forced follow suit for COD 2014 at the very latest.

Still, it would be a pretty big blow if even just Ghosts didn't have dedicated servers on PS4.

Hopefully, that's not the case, as Sony surely must have seen this coming; dedicated servers isn't something that you just throw into the code about 2 months before launch, so Microsoft/Activision must have had this planned for a good while. It's not like dedicated servers for one game would be extremely difficult to do, either; Sony has hosted dedicated servers on numerous PS3 games since 2006. So if they don't do it for COD: Ghosts ASAP (or if they haven't already done it), then it would be a huge mistake.

This is making me think it's gotta have dedicated servers or they are at least still working on it. Otherwise, why not just outright deny it?

The fact that IW said during the multiplayer reveal they will talk about dedicated servers "later" led me to believe it was a thing that they couldn't confirm yet or was still being worked on. Otherwise, they would have outright denied dedicated servers at the multiplayer reveal event.

For all we know, MS may very well just be using the phrase "exclusive multiplayer features" to tout the supposed "superiority" of their Azure cloud over other "plain" implementations of dedicated servers. If there's any glimmer of hope that the "exclusive features" phrasing isn't referencing dedicated servers in and of itself, it's the fact that COD: Ghosts will almost assuredly have that feature on PC as well; thus the word "exclusive" doesn't really apply here.

Dedicated servers don't really help ping/latency. It won't speed up the time it takes your packets to cross oceans. Dedicated servers are more about consistency. Less likely you'll get lag spikes etc.

Could you imagine the shit storm if they didn't use dedicated servers?

I mean come on, this isn't news it's to be expected. With them talking all their shit about the cloud....

xbone uses dedicated servers, water is wet.

And hopefully no more host migration BS. Which would be great because more times than not the game would just kick everyone out anyway, rather than actually migrating to another host and continuing.
