Colin Trevorrow Exits Episode 9

To be fair, Snyder had a rape scene in just about every film until Man of Steel.

Even the owl movie?

How about James Gunn? He is pretty damn good with those space movies.

In a world where I didn't see Guardians 2, I might agree with this.

I think Alex Garland was the best name thrown out in this thread, but realistically, it could go to Abrams or Johnson. Maybe DuVernay? But likely the one of those three that aren't super busy at the moment.

James Cameron. Already has a creative partnership with Disney. He just needs to cut or move one of those many Avatar films coming up.

And as a callback to Daicon IV Anno'll have Rey in a bunny suit fighting a clone of Darth Vader,

Then she'll go to the cantina to have a damn fine piece of pie before dissolving into stars.

A Lynch / Anno Co-production

So is that 3 for 5 of new Star Wars movies that have had production problems now?

Is this a worrying trend or indication of Disney's handling?

If you're gonna pin this on someone, it's Kathleen Kennedy.

Head of Lucasfilm.

Therefore, Lucasfilm.

Rian will only come back if they delay IX. Is avatar 2 happening in 2019?
Unless they get a yes man there's no way it's not getting delayed. Who knows Trevorrow's script sensibilities, maybe the draft is good, but supposedly he didn't like the newest script from Thorne, that'll probably get tossed out with whoever comes in.

That being said it's gonna suckkkkkk if it gets delayed to December for Wonder Woman. I imagine that'll get delayed or moved too with this.

He's got his own space fantasy to fuck with.

Didn't Deadline report that Johnson is first up to bat? Basically, if he wants it, and they agree to terms, its his?

Or did I misinterpret that from earlier.
That seems to be the case. And Johnson tweeted a few months back he'd do another SW in a heartbeat.

I mean, yes, but we said literally the same thing about JJ before Episode 7 and look how that turned out :P

I think Gunn will have his hands full with Guardians 3, but I bet he would knock Star Wars out of the park if given the opportunity. Maybe not episode 9, though. My money is still on JJ coming back.

I bet they will end up delaying it. Just makes sense to have a December release.

Yeah half the reason Star Wars has been doing so well is lack of competition especially from Disney properties. It’s just dumb to reduce the box office take by canabalizing your own IP. I’ve gotten used to MCU in Summer and Star Wars to watch with the fam over the holidays.

Critically acclaimed and the highest grossing movie ever in the United States? JJ did a good job.

To be fair, he would still be a better choice than Trevorrow.

Lol, Snyder can't even direct an entertaining action sequence, no matter the toys he's got to play with, so no. Trevorrow at least cooked up some fantastic minutes of action in JW.

Waiting for the rian johnson debunk on his twitter to break my heart.
"Your episode IX director theory sucks".

Boi what? I liked the big dumb Dino battle at the end of JW too but nah, there's lots of stuff Snyder is bad at, but action is not one of them.

Even in BvS where he wasn't as good as he normally was with the big CGI stuff, he still put out the best hand to hand cape fight we've gotten since these super hero movies have taken off.

I'd also trust him more with Rey's character than Trevorrow's creepy ass.

Said this before, but had it not been for the Jurassic World sequel, I also would've been down for JA Bayona to direct mainly for the emotional/character highs he's able to deliver. Something that would be quintessential for IX.

And I've only seen The Impossible, mind you.

Watchmen, Sucker Punch and 300 are counter examples to that...I’d argue the Super Saien air fighting in Man of Steel was pretty damn good...Batman V Superman just wasn’t paced all that well but the action was at least memorable if not as stylish as Snyder’s previous efforts.

Jurassic World was just a soulless mess with zero dramatic tension and weird decisions. Jurassic Parks 1990’s CGI and practical effects still hold up and are incredibly memorable but I couldn’t tell you a single action set piece in World aside from the stupid Raptors running with Chris Pratt on a motorcycle.

JA Bayona would've been a good (and funny) choice to replace Trevorrow. He's why I'm looking forward to Jurassic World 2, in spite of my low opinion of Jurassic World and its characters. And I think there's a running theory that he'll be doing a Superman movie next, but I'm not exactly sure where it stems from.

So Lucas will take the helm now right? It's the only choice that makes sense.

Edit: ofcourse I'm lttp with that one, at page 31. Nevermind, move along, move along.

He made a billion dollar relaunch of a beloved film property. Not too surprising why they picked him at first.

Did they watch that relaunch movie or did they just see the box office numbers?

Money talks, man

Sure, but he relaunched it with a universally panned movie, while Star Wars had already been succesfully relaunched when they picked him for IX.

His name was already floated for Star Wars before he was even considered for Jurassic World. Brad Bird had suggested Trevorrow act as an interim director for the pre-production of VII, so that Bird could direct both Star Wars and Tomorrowland, which put his name on the map for both Kennedy and Marshall.

Pfft. Hell no. All those movies ate long boring messes. I remember being hyped like hell for 300, only to leave the theater feeling like I just watched a two hour music video. His action is boring.
