Colin Trevorrow Exits Episode 9

Max Landis will be asked to write and direct for his bold opinions on Rey's characterization. Disney will secretly burn all thirty copies of Me Him Her to pitch him as an undiscovered talent. This is all a long con to get Disney the rights for Coming to America 2.

I can't see Johnson doing it considering he was already scaling back his involvement (he was supposed to write a story treatment for IX but I think he'd gone back on that in recent months). JJ did the same when Force Awakens was released. I'm not saying it definitely won't happen, I'm just a bit skeptical.

I mean, he didn't "scale back his involvement", his involvement was erroneously reported to begin with. He has said that he'd do another Star Wars again in a heartbeat. And JJ only declined because he was planning to take a break from directing to spend time with his family, which made him nearly pass on TFA, so he wasn't going to do two massive productions back-to-back. In less than a week after TFA released he was already saying that he deeply regretted not doing another.

Thus begins the age of the Eddie Murphy Cinematic Universe

Disney's / LucasFilm's new management dropped the ball early. They should have taken more time and let one guy shoot the entire Trilogy to have a cohesive experience. The idea of different directors for each entry is only good for the spinoffs.

Get Doug Liman. Edge of Tomorrow was great and he made boatliads of chinese money with The Wall ( I suspect it to be crap but I really did like Edge).

A New Hope, directed by George Lucas

The Empire Strikes Back, directed by Irvin Kershner

Return of the Jedi, directed by Richard Marquand

It was my favorite when I was a kid.

I may be able to look at it a little better again knowing it's not the end of the story.

The fact is that Star Wars has a tradition of switching off directors, so them deciding to do it for 7-9 is no surprising. When they tried to go for the whole one director thing, with the guy who started it no less, we ended up with the Prequels.

Also, RotJ is still a good movie, even if it's the weakest of the original trilogy. It's less of a nose dive than it is a dip from an A to a B.

Don't forget that it wasn't just one guy directing. One guy pretty much in complete control

"I would do another SW movie in a heartbeat. I've had the time of my life."

-Rian Johnson on July 19

If Disney picks him again it's a good sign for the quality of VIII.

I'll actually be alright with this so long as someone vets the shit out of the script.
Not going to happen then even if Disney offered. He hated Fox interfering with Star Wars and he'd have to have total control like with the prequels. He's an idea guy, not someone who will just do a good job directing someone else's story. He doesn't even like directing. Never has.

I love GL but having him direct IX is a terrible idea.

Get Lucas but forbid him to even look sideways at the script. I'm sure it would turn better then the prequels lol

Must be funny to say that, and that for a situation to occur a few months after like this

Giving it to him would be a good indicator of VIII, and we can go into it knowing the IX director is now probably not going to be fired

Can we get someone to prove the force is real and get Irvin Kershner to come back as a force spirit to do it ? I'm not that interested in the idea of Episode IX : The Focus Testing, featuring the Ultra Death Star that's 11 times bigger than the others.

I have no real beef with Jurassic World, I thought it was entertaining enough. But Trevorrow would not be my first choice to direct a mainline Star Wars, so this was a bit of a relief. Hopefully they can find someone suitable to take his spot.

This right here. Jurassic World was derivative and I have zero desire to see it again, but I had fun I guess. Trevorrow's new movie is basura though, and he's far from an ideal choice for Star Wars Episode 9.

RotJ has the Throne Room scene though, arguably the best scene in the entire series.

And no, the Ewoks did not ruin the movie, actually think it's kind of cool that they were a metaphor for the Viet Cong.

Thank god

This is probably good proof that his version of ep9 was going to be shit.

It was a mistake to name him the director in the first place, a shortsighted and knee jerk reaction to Jurassic World.

I feel like everyone that could make a Star Wars movie that defies expectations is exactly who we won't get. These are the same people that replaced Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

The outlier here is Rian Johnson, who I hope hasn't sold his soul to do this. We'll see in a few months, I guess.

My fantasy pick is Steven Soderbergh.
