Rutgers is just a bad cultural fit for the Big 10.

With that said, I think it would be great for the school academically, to join the Big 10.

Take advantage of that Big 10 U.S. News boost.

And the TV markets. Culturally and athletically, they don't really have the history, but moneywise and acadamically it would benefit the Big10.

1) 4th most important school for bringing in money? How does someone quantify that?

Nebraska makes more money period than any other program barring Penn St, Notre Dame, and Texas. larger fanbases and larger metro areas means dick if the Huskers still outgain them moneywise. If there were no A&M, the viewship of college football in Texas wouldn't drop at all. If there were no Nebraska, it would drop in all of Nebraska a ton as well as parts of Iowa and Kansas. Maybe not 5 million or something, but there are 2 million Nebraska fans in just this state and the bordering cities.

2) You guess Michigan St. what?

3) Most of this is obvious. I don;t know why you even took the time to type other than to stroke your fandom. I think Nebraska felt betrayed that everyone voted to shift the power to the south rather than balance the equation as far as conference title, conference headquarters, and etc. go. Plus, when you are the top dog for so long, why not look to greener pastures when things aren't going as hot? I think Nebraska's stock has just soared and everyone else seems to agree. They now have an avenue to recruit in Ohio, Michigan, and the rest of the midwest. They weren't getting a lot of Texas recruits anyway, so this will only help them.

So, they are going to receive more research money, better recruiting, more TV money, similar climate (balanced competition late in the season, and they get to be the powerhouse again if they do an East/West alignment. You call it running with their tail between their legs, I call it smart business.

1. I think it gets quanitifed by how much money the athletic department makes. UT has the most profitable atheltic department in the country? Which is impressive considering all the sports UT has. $120 million overall for Texas. Nebraska brough in $75 mill. OK Stater, OU, and Kansas all made more than Nebraska. Texas A&M is right below Nebraska. Colorado tops the basement of Colorado, Mizzou, K-state, Baylor and Iowa State.

2. Michigan State is the only school in the Big 10 with academic standards as low as Nebraska. This is no secret that when Texas joing the Big XII, they pused for higher academic standards and that did concern the Big 8 schools overall, especially Nebraska. I think the crux were the conditional admissions programs.

3. The old SWC saved the Big 8. Colorado was entertaining the Pac-10 back then too, but the entrance of the SWC schools changed the game. There was $$ to be made. And yeah, it came because of Texas. Nebraska was hands down the king of Big 8 football prior to the Big XII years. But there were alot of concessions made to accomodate the SWC schools and Nebraska was the most upset about it.

I won't say the Nebraska's stock has risen, or that it has ebbed in the Big XII. It just plateau'd. The Big XII championships have pretty much been between Colorado, Nebraska, Texas and OU. But it's the Big XII South teams that have won the conference more and go on to get more exposure and glory.

Also, having a nationwide fanbase helps. Texas Ex is an insance alumni association, that even CU is directly modeling itself after. That stuff is everywhere.

While I will admit first hand that Pitt has lackluster attendance...your picture is also deceiving. Take pictures of the Cincinnati and Notre Dame games and you will see a full stadium. Do we fill the stadium out everygame like I wish we would? No. but then again we have to play Thursday night games and people don't want to take off to get drunk.

Penn State folks had nothing to do in their cornfield other than drink and go to a Saturday football game. That mentality stays with most of them through their existance. Temple is in town??!?! Lets drink! I will say that they are very passionate and I have been to State College on a football weekend and it is fun. But there really isnt anything else to get excited about out there.

Pitt fans dont' go to the football games because they are too busy being jaded at the ridiculous cost of parking and they have to work just to save up enough to get season tickets for a basketball program that has been consistently one of the best the last 10 years.

If Nebraska left the B12 because they felt Texas had too much power, and Nebraska didn't have enough, I wonder how they feel about all this division alignment talk being centered entirely around when Ohio State and Michigan play their game?

And I don't follow much recruiting, but it's been my understanding that top recruits are heading south more and more. I don't know how much having access to recruits in Ohio and Michigan is going to help Nebraska if Ohio State and Michigan are having trouble keeping them around.

I feel kind of bad for the WAC and their remaining 6 teams. Their commissioner is holding on with all of his might, though, threatening to sue and trying to force Fresno and Nevada to stay on for two more years. It also appears that the MWC backup plan for losing BYU (deadline is tomorrow) is to take UH and UTEP out of CUSA. So soon after that feel good meeting, too.

My point is, they weren't getting any southern recruits as it was, they will do much better recruiting players already used to the cold and willing to stay up north. Yes, many kids are looking to the south and the warm weather (girls are infinitely hotter in a bikini than a snowsuit) but those that will stay will get more exposure to Nebraska now.

Heh. Relax, NU peeps. Nebraska was one of the winners in the fallout of the MDC, and I'm sure everyone here knows that. Deep down. :P

So, do Nebraska and Texas play this year? Should be awesome if so. :lol

Colorado can go recruit...er...reform more gang members through its football program now that we'll join the Pac-12!

Yeah they do. They will probably play twice unless Oklahoma beats Texas.

Try not to cough the ball up 8 times to Iowa State.

This time, we will just try to down the ball somewhere inside the 20 and kick a field goal instead of randomly fumbling a billion times.

Don't forget Colorado.

See how I typed that earnestly? Even though my heart died a little when faced with grim reality.

Update from the ESPN bottom line news ticker/tv burn in area. Alabama's Mark Ingram has knee surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews. Good thing mre is a Gator now.

You never know man, we hate eachother, that has fueled a lot more close games (and blowouts on either side) than should have been reasonable in other circumstances. :)

Its manufactured hate. Bill McCartney's legacy.

But yeah, it has lead to some close games. And I remember our kicker was put on suicide watch after he blew that game.

I don't agree that Nebraska isn't a good academic fit in the Big Ten.

They're an AAU member, which is essentially the minimum academic requirement. And they'll almost definitely make a huge jump in the rankings because of the CIC. Plus, they're a land grant university with a strong emphasis on research, which makes them an even better fit.

This isn't just about what Nebraska brings to the Big Ten. It's about what the Big Ten (and the CIC) brings to Nebraska. It's a mutually beneficial relationship that UNL never would have gotten in the Big 12.

Damn, this came out of nowhere.

We'll get to see if Richardson really is the better back.

Plus, here comes Eddie Lacy.

FUCK the WAC if that happens.

I would like to say that Indiana University under Bill Lynch has the biggest joke of a BCS Football program ever.

Want to know why?

They SOLD one of their in conference home games to Penn State.

Instead of playing at Indiana, they are playing in Washington making it a virtual home game for Penn State.

INDIANA SOLD A BIG TEN HOME GAME.

Yeah, that picture exaggerated things, but you're more or less further explaining why Pitt isn't at the top of the Big Ten's wish list. Going by what you said, they might be pushing themselves down it. The nothing else to do except go get drunk for the Saturday game mentality alumni/fans carry with them leads to more BTN subscriptions and advertising not just in the footprint, but outside it as well. It's not just the students/alumni, but the fans in the region as well. The Panthers were better than the Steelers last year, but it didn't show in the stands.

That Intramurals pic is the greatest thing ever.

You know it should have been a warning that a Hulk Hogan impersonation fired up Buffaloes Country.

Mack Brown doing a little pre-season lobbying, shaking the rust off.

"I think you have to go back and really give that choice to the Heisman Trust. If they take it away, I think Vince should be awarded the trophy . . . Vince was second in the voting, so even if they re-voted I would like to see Vince get it," the Longhorns football coach told Dan Patrick.

Don't go too hard, Coach, you'll need to be in top form come November!

We'll find out if we are as deep as we hope at RB. Only game I am worried about missing Ingram is PSU. Pretty sure he'll be back for Arky.

Some did an excellent photoshop then.

I wanted to post a picture off of google, of lacy jumping over someone, but it's off a defunct website, and brings up 404 errors :(

It Ain't Nothing Special

Guess I could just post that.

Fffuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Thankfully it's not too bad. I think he just got it scoped, and he's going to be week to week. Right now the most he's expected to miss is 2 games, but this pretty much sunk him for a Heisman repeat (not that I expected in any way, shape, or form for him to actually repeat).

I don't ever like to see a player injured, but I really hope it does sink his Heisman campaign. That guy didn't deserve it last year; two would be absurd.

Edit: on reread, this makes me sound like a total dick. Oh well, what can you do.

I don't see how you can say Ingram didn't deserve it. It was a down year for jaw-dropping offensive stats, and his only real competition last year was Gerhart. Suh was never going to win it; defensive players rarely, rarely ever win it. Gerhart and Ingram had pretty similar stats. If I remember correctly, Gerhart had more TDs and rushing yards, but Ingram made up much of that difference in his receiving TDs and yards. Ingram also had a higher yards-after-contact average and and higher yards-per-carry average that Gerhart.

With all that considered, when you factor in the fact that the Heisman Trophy is also in large part a beauty pageant, Ingram definitely deserved the Trophy.

I will grant you that Ingram was no more undeserving than most recent Heisman winners.

On behalf of Mark Ingram, I accept your back-handed acquiescence.

Ingram didn't throw a fourth down TD pass over Notre Dame though!

No offense the the Bama guys or Ingram, but for me Ingram was absolutely the most boring Heisman winner of the past 10 years. The only other winner who is in the same category would probably be Jason White. I guess maybe Troy Smith, but he's further away.
