1) 4th most important school for bringing in money? How does someone quantify that?
Nebraska makes more money period than any other program barring Penn St, Notre Dame, and Texas. larger fanbases and larger metro areas means dick if the Huskers still outgain them moneywise. If there were no A&M, the viewship of college football in Texas wouldn't drop at all. If there were no Nebraska, it would drop in all of Nebraska a ton as well as parts of Iowa and Kansas. Maybe not 5 million or something, but there are 2 million Nebraska fans in just this state and the bordering cities.
2) You guess Michigan St. what?
3) Most of this is obvious. I don;t know why you even took the time to type other than to stroke your fandom. I think Nebraska felt betrayed that everyone voted to shift the power to the south rather than balance the equation as far as conference title, conference headquarters, and etc. go. Plus, when you are the top dog for so long, why not look to greener pastures when things aren't going as hot? I think Nebraska's stock has just soared and everyone else seems to agree. They now have an avenue to recruit in Ohio, Michigan, and the rest of the midwest. They weren't getting a lot of Texas recruits anyway, so this will only help them.
So, they are going to receive more research money, better recruiting, more TV money, similar climate (balanced competition late in the season, and they get to be the powerhouse again if they do an East/West alignment. You call it running with their tail between their legs, I call it smart business.
