Well, if he is rolling into Austin on a Thursday it means he is getting dollar margaritas and a bunch of coeds at the 6th street location. I can forgive the mistake.

Also, I'm sure they never leave the downtown/campus area when in town. But yeah, El Arroyo wouldn't sniff the top 50 eateries in town.

Then he should go to Torchy's and get a Democrat and a Trailer Park. Its not like there isn't 1 in north campus, and 2 on south 1st.

Greg Reid not on his top return men listing despite being the top before the bandwagon player and #1 in kick off returns last year? I think he'll mostly do PRing this year with Lamarcus Joyner taking KR duty -- those two are going to be just absurdly unfair to kick to... I'm salivating at the thought.

For the most part, the Herbies aren't that bad IMO. I assume the All-Uni team is about guys who "look the part" since it's different than the best players list and not having Nigel Bradham or Jeff Luc seems like an oversight.

Man, OSU doesn't play well in the early season. I reaaaaally don't see them winning that one.

OSU, on the road, early season, with a new QB.

If there isn't a bigger lock to lose than I don't know what it is.

Herbstreit pisses me off to no end. Ultimate Company Man (tm), only gives a shit about the traditionally big programs, big-time Pro-BCS asshole... argh. And those frosted tips are stupid-looking.

And Travis fucking Lewis is the best player in the Big 12? Really? And Oklahoma State is "likely to disappoint?" I don't know anyone in the country who's picked us to win more than 8 games, so what would a disappointment qualify as? 4, 5 wins?

I'm actually really high on Texas this year. I think they'll beat OU more easily than people think, and Gilbert is gonna end up as a Heisman finalist.

/OSU fan rant

How far ahead of Texas will you be at half, and will Texas be able to come back and turn it into a rout by the 4th quarter?

edit: the real problem is Austin not being listed as a top airport. ABIA is a dream to fly out of. 15 minutes through security.. never have to walk very far, big open concourses, clean bathrooms and tons of stores/good places to eat.

Oh shit, I didn't see he listed LA as a great airport either. What airport in LA is he using?

Amen. It's easily the best airport in and out of TX. What in lacks in sheer size it more than makes up for with creature comforts. Whenever I have family/friends coming to town, I always tell them to fly in/out of Austin (even if they're not visiting the immediate Austin area).

Well, I have season tickets again this year. Last year my son was only a few months old when the season started so I decided to only go to a few games when I could get tickets. I think he's now ready to go to all the games with me so I'm ready to start brainwashing him into thinking everything UGA = evil, everything Georgia Tech = good.

Your son will thank you one day.

No way. Sophomore's never win the Heisman.

Hmm... that's a tough one.

We'll supposedly suck this year, so I'm guessing we'll be up by at least 28 at half. And Texas will win by 35.

only half-kidding

I'm also enjoying how Herbstreit is giving Demarco Murray so much love. WTF has he ever done to justify his hype coming out of high school? And everyone is forgetting Kendall Hunter was an All-American and led the conference in rushing two years ago...

Where's his fucking Herbie? :'(

Which is extra impressive since the Big 12 is slam full of top rushing defenses like Texas.

LSU v UNC, Pitt v Utah, and UW v BYU say otherwise. :)

VT v Boise St should be a classic, too!

The only one of those that should be very good is VT and Boise State, the others are meh (for me). I'm glad college football's back, but as far as good football games, it gets much better from here. Then again, I'm not into the hype for Boise State and BYU.

* Fifth-year senior
The 11th can't come fast enough. Even with the uncertainty at QB, I'd fanatically say the Nitts had a shot if only the oline was competent.

I'm not saying he's the best RB in the nation, but it's ridiculous that a complete disappointment like DeMarco Murray gets billing over him.

I mainly wanted to throw a dig at Texas. :p

yeah, I think OSU is definitely getting underrated a bit. I could see them pulling off an upset or two.
Assuming you're talking about Ok. State (since you're a fellow non-midwesterner):

WSU-W
Troy-W
Tulsa-W
*A&M-W
@LA-LaFayette-W
*@TTU-L
*Nebraska-W
@KSU-W
Baylor-W
*@Texas-L
@Kansas-W
*OU-L

*tough/key games

That has us at 9-3 going into the bowl game (def. optimistic, I'll admit), and I could definitely see it happening if we stay injury-free. I think we'll win against either Tech or Nebraska, those are about equal difficulty in my book. 7 wins is the absolute basement unless our QB gets injured, IMO.

That's always welcome, as well (although I prefer jabs at OU). :D

LOL @ The Herbies. Awful award name, and awful picks. Then again, I don't know most of the people on his lists, so I can't claim I would do a better job. PEACE.

Yeah, working at the Panera Bread in Midtown Village has to be a better lifestyle than being in the swamp.

Oh yeah, KITCHEN'S OPEN in the Oasis on Highway 11! No Kitchen Fire's going to keep that dive bar from making Burgers!

Man, I went back looking for a particular post in the offseason thread, and found my original mocking reaction to Zona losing both coordinators and most of their D.

Why am I picking these guys to win the Pac? :lol

Who is going to crap their pants first on national TV: Lou Holtz or Lee Corso.

Going with the Underdog: Holtz

Corso didn't sound too bad on a recent preview show. Must have done some extensive rehab work.

Corso was better, and didn't seem to be as slow on the ball as he was last year. Like, he was able to interrupt Kirk and come up with something coherent without having that really uncomfortable space that was there last year.

Oh good god....

Alabama is on the list to have a Combat Uni this season...

Saban's supposed to have final say....but there are somethings you just don't mess with.

Texas did alright last year. We didn't let them fuck with anything, and the only noticeable difference was the retro helmet we wore. You have a strong, classic brand. It shouldn't be that terribly different like Va Techs.

:lol I'll be in Knoxville for the game. My dad and I always go to the season opener. I've actually had two nightmares in the past week that we lost :lol

Season predictions for UT:

(W) Sat, Sep 4 Tennessee-Martin
(L) Sat, Sep 11 (11) Oregon
(L) Sat, Sep 18 (4) Florida
(W) Sat, Sep 25 UAB
(L) Sat, Oct 2 at (21) LSU
(L) Sat, Oct 9 at (23) Georgia
(L) Sat, Oct 23 (1) Alabama
(W) Sat, Oct 30 at South Carolina
(W) Sat, Nov 6 at Memphis
(W) Sat, Nov 13 Mississippi
(W) Sat, Nov 20 at Vanderbilt
(W) Sat, Nov 27 Kentucky

And a win at the Chicken Bowl.

That is a little on the positive side. There are 4 gimme games (UAB, Vandy, Martin, Memphis) 1 we should win (Kentucky) 4 we could win (LSU, Georgia, South Carolina, Ole Miss) and 3 guaranteed losses (Florida, Oregon, Bama). If we split the 4 like you say and go 7-5 I would consider it a good year. Personally I think it will be 6-6 though playing in the Liberty.

It makes me sad to see mid-majors getting nice things. They should just go back to the kitchen and fix some damned dinner for the big boys.
