College Football Thread - "Whoa, Nellie"

Two losing seasons in a row. Schools have little patience these days. Goes back to NIL. People want results from their investments.
Especially how fast things can go from the losingest college football program to back to back being in the playoffs and having the 2nd ranked team in the country over a 2 year span

Seriously though

How?

Same for Vanderbilt. Traditional doormat of the SEC and look at them today. Some programs are rising with the new while others are falling behind.

Crazy times

How is it Cignetti was an unknown for so damn long?

We will see if they can maintain like saban/spurrier/ or if they just had a good run.

Twitter ole miss is scorching the earth with lane stuff. Screenshots of him talking to girls and sliding into dms. Talking about Cochin issues and rehab and more.

Don't have much sympathy for either side of the Kiffin stuff. He made the choice to leave, then pouted about not being allowed to maybe get a natty on the way out...can't have it both ways, chum. As for Ole Miss, Kiffin's history of reptilian behavior is well documented. They should have been known that he would jump ship as soon as a bigger name school came knocking.

Florida Twitter I don't think is that keen on the Hire. I was not keen on Napier, but we will see how this one plays out I guess. Just win and score points.

247 Florida board is pissed. Too many similarities to Napier, I guess. Honestly, I think Alex Golesh was more of a natural fit for UF and Sumrall was ore aligned with Auburn. But apparently something scared Sumrall off from the Auburn job regarding past coaches. Not sure how true that is, but that's the word around from the 247 Auburn insiders.

TBF, the similarities stop at a G5 Louisiana coach. Nappier called his own plays on offense. Sumrall is a defensive coach. He'll have an offensive guy call those. Although, I'm not mad on us missing his window. His teams lack discipline badly.

It's either Stein or Hartline for us, it looks like. :messenger_beaming:

It's not just that. His trajectory was falling every year. Our recruiting class is like in the 60's now. I'm not even mad(nor is anyone else really) about him flirting with aggie. The game simply passed him up. We were basically Georgia with way less talent. Our old schedule with the east ended, and even then, those schools that were down started to find life again. I thank him for the memories, but a change was needed a few years ago.

Edited for somewhat clearer english. Started drinking early for hopefully the good news. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Well if half the SEC hadn't fired their coaches it would be easier. But I think a school like UAB may look at hiring a HS coach to move up. Gus Bus is the lash HS guy I know to make the leap. I bet there are some good HS coaches that could do it.

Bill Clark was the last HS to take over UAB and he did a damn good job. He was being considered for the Auburn job when they hired Harsin, but he was having health problems and had to quit altogether. Definitely some coaching talent at the HS level. Hell of a lot better than Trent Dilfer, that's for sure.

Bama v Georgia rematch will be excellent viewing this weekend. I'm hoping for the not-impossible scenario where we get a third matchup between them in the playoffs.

Which begs the question if Bama loses a close game do they deserve to be in the field as a 3 loss team?

Are they one of the best 12 teams in the Country?

I think they are

Do they deserve to be in the field?

I don't think they should be

No, of course they shouldn't. And being an Auburn grad has nothing to do with it.

I don't understand how Texas A&M didn't make the championship as a 1 loss team.

I'd say that they are one of the top 12, but losses also need consequences, so I understand keeping them out if they lose to Georgia.

But the politics of it get complex, because there will be calls to eliminate or skip conference championships if we let them count against a team that is ranked #9 in the playoff ranking at end of regular season.

My IU Basketball team going to struggle again this year.

Have been sitting next to this guy and chatting with him a little and just asked him I know him from somewhere...
