ASU versus Oregon, awesome marketing

As one of maybe three or four Northwestern fans on GAF, I strongly caution anyone betting on them winning at PSU!

1. Penn State has rocked them in this series over the long term. They've won 12 out of 15 meetings.

2. "Northwestern has lost its last four games as a ranked team in the AP poll dating back to 2001." Enough said.

I'm a HUGE Northwestern fan, but they haven't won a game ranked since 2000. If they DO pull out a win against PSU, then all bets are off for their season (and the B1G title race), but I wouldn't bet on it.

I would probably actually bet cash money on Penn State losing this weekend

Was looking over Notre Dame's roster earlier - I know it means little-to-nothing at all, but still - they have really good size. Like elite size. Bama size. When you think back on their recruiting classes, even under Weis, you wonder, maybe a good coach is truly all they've been missing. Not saying they're for real - yet - but I'm closer to thinking they might be than I have been in over a decade.

They have the size but they don't have the SEC speed™. The B1G was always just as big. Doesn't mean shit.

Notre Dame has always recruited well. Kinda like UCLA. (sorry Karakand, not really)

I am heartened by this, if still skeptical. Can't trust anything beyond my own nervous fan skepticism.

I think you misunderstood me. I just meant that Penn State is on my shit list and I will always pick them to lose, a list formerly occupied only by the Irish and the Steelers.

As to the actual game. I like Northwestern like I like Duke, in a loveable (but slightly less) loser sense. Anyways, I think you guys win, and look damn good doing it. Seriously, those new unis are awesome. The only good thing Under Armour has ever done.

As for Duke. I very nearly went to Duke law, and if I did I was going to make myself their number 1 football fan. Alas, it didn't happen and truly101 stands alone.

Yeah, but they have recruiting standards as the excuse for sucking. But then Stanford. But then Cal (sorry Cyan, not really).

But now that they have a criminal element, they are more competitive. Committing crimes is practice for SEC speed.

Totally agreed there, I almost panicked when I saw that UA was doing the uniforms. Then I saw this:

And I was okay with that.

Managed to find some time to do this...

I bet Stanford teaches rounding to their students.

Man, all I heard was "Stanford" and "round." Which lead me to think of Jennifer Connelly, who I think is the only hot girl to ever attend Stanford.

I can't believe I actually moved up this week.

I moved up as well. But, not being able to make emotionally charged pride based picks on Colorado helped.

Ouch bad week for me. Im confused about your order though, some people with lower numbers in the total higher than others?

edit: nvm was looking at the number on the right not the left.

Here goes round two for me:

Well on weeks I dont actually go to our home games I watch the following:

Thursday night game, flip between the noon games, usually there will be one decent game on at 3:30 that I usually watch majority of it, then the 8pm game is usually the big game of the day and ill watch it.

Sometimes youll get a Pac-10 team playing at 10 and ill watch that game up until its not a game anymore (about halftime).

So you have to guess a lot of the pick 'ems as well then?

I am finding it hard to read up about match previews for all of these pick 'ems

I dont think I guess alot of them (well we all guess all of them technically), but most of us know the style a team plays and who they have. A lot of times with college football its not about who is the better team, its all about match ups. For instance I was a lot more confident in Ohio State winning last week then this week simply becuase Michigan St plays a style of offense we are more suited to defending.

Once you watch more of college football youll start to see how each team runs a different style of offense. My problem in the pickem is I way overthink all of the picks then it ends up screwming me over lol.

Despite that Miami looked like dogshit earlier, they look good now. I have a feeling about this game.

Vegas has not released a line on UVA/Duke because nobody knows our starting QB's status. Boone is a capable back up to Renfree but I don't think we win without Sean. You may want to adjust your picks accordingly.

They have the size but they don't have the SEC speed™. The B1G was always just as big. Doesn't mean shit.

These are not B1G guys we're talking about. Most of the starters are from outside the Midwest. Kelly has recruited for speed more than he has recruited for size (though he does like guys being "long"). Seeing the defense in action against Michigan, they are all flying to the ball in a way that I have never seen from a Notre Dame defense before. In a year or two Bob Diaco is going to be a hot new coaching prospect because of this defense.

Stephon Tuitt Touchdown Run
This guy is a 6'6", 303 lb sophomore.

Let me crack an egg of knowledge over your heads:

Notre Dame is the only team this year to not have given up a rushing TD.
Notre Dame is the only team to have never trailed at any point this season.

It is WAAAAY to early to be drinking the Kool-Aid on this team (our offense kinda blows which makes us even more SEC-ish) but the team is legitimately talented--not in the smoke and mirrors Big Ten vein.

Pretty respectable considering you had a few out there picks.

I usually straight up watch my teams game, and then I have two games I flip between of the 12:00 games, and if I get bored I switch to the others. Same for 3:30 games. And then usually just the first half of the 6:00 game unless it is something I am really into. And 8:00 usually has the marquee games, so I go with my 7:00 strategy of flipping back and fourth.

And then sometimes the Pac-12 is still playing at 2am, and if I am really in the mood I might watch the end of the late games.

A DVR helps, and also a general idea of which games won't suck. Or watching a team you can root against/for. With a DVR, if you can manage to avoid spoilers you won't have to flip between two great games. You probably can't avoid spoilers, though.

My schedule sucks, I usually do good to watch a 12:00 game and my teams game. Usually keep up with other scores and GAF's comments during games while watching.

I've just been going with my gut this year. What I've learned so far is that my gut is pretty terrible at picking games, I did better last year when I actually put more than 45 seconds into picks each week!

Yeah, I think this game will be the tipping point of the season. Pat Fitzgerald is 0-4 against Penn State in his coaching career. McGloin owns Northwestern. If you believe in streaks, then I would say it's not unusual to bet against Northwestern.

Side note: Technically Northwestern is the first team bowl eligible in 2012.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012–13_NCAA_football_bowl_games#Bowl-eligibility_contingency_plan

On August 2, 2012 The NCAA Division I Board of Directors approved a process that would allow 5-7 teams to become bowl eligible, in case there aren't enough bowl-eligible teams to fill every game.

The tie-breaking process order for selecting teams if there are not enough slots to fill: First consideration goes to 6-6 teams with one win against FCS teams, regardless of whether that FCS school meets NCAA scholarship requirements. Until now, an FCS win only counted if that opponent met the scholarship requirements, Next up for consideration would be 6-6 teams with two wins over FCS schools, Teams that finish 6-7 and lose in the conference championship game are next, Then come 6-7 teams that normally play a 13-team schedule, such as Hawaii and its home opponents, FCS teams who are making the transition to the FBS, if they have at least a 6-6 record., Finally, the nod would go to 5-7 teams that have a top-5 Academic Progress Rate score.

Northwestern ranks 1st in APR.

Good Pickem week, going to be alot of close games.

wow....doing horrible in the Pick Em this season. :(

Good CFB QB who had superior talent around him. This allowed him to put up gaudy numbers, and he had ESPN fellating him 24/7.

I would think OSU fans hate Tebow

I'm not a tebow fan at all, but if you can make millions of dollars playing a game. More power to you. Would have to argue right now is the best time of his life. Backup QB, that everyone wants to play, making millions, without actually really playing and getting shit on.

Meh, I don't see why they would outside of the fact that so many do and he was on Florida. While it is true Florida doesn't make that game without Tebow, Chris Leak was throwing hot fire in the MNC game, and they win that game with or without Tebow.

People that think that being a professional athlete is making millions of dollars "playing a game" really have no idea what goes into being a professional athlete. Same with people saying college athletes get a free education for playing a game.

It is some hard, hard, HARD work.

Helped crush their "Greatest Team of All Time" (or whatever ESPN/the media was hyping that OSU team as) and their Heisman QB...basically destroyed the B1G's image around the nation
