COMICS|OT|October 2017- The only thing scarier than Messi's avatar are Marvels sales

i'm kinda really looking forward to this Archies book

I don't know what it is, but after like, the second arc of Archie, I cannot give a fuck about anything related to the entire franchise. So much so that doing the Archie books for the monthly OTs is by far the most aggravating part. That and those fucking Animosity books. JFC does anyone even read those anymore?

Archie bungled the Riverdale line and the buzz has died down.

Yes? Animosity is still awesome.

X-Men Blue > New Mutants. Replacing the O5 with these other characters (Bloodstorm, Jimmy Howlett) and having Polaris and Danger as mentors. Could find a few more. Wouldn't be surprised if Gabby finally joins. Plus the clan that Patch trained and maybe some Ms. Sinister cloned mutants, like "Ultimate Armor". Either that or it becomes New X-Men.

Gold will become Uncanny. That was obvious from the beginning. Astonishing becoming a limited run franchise where all the writers get 6-12 issues to do a story would be a cool idea for a line.

Weapon X will inevitably be replaced with X-Force. Gen X may stick around for a bit, or that will become New Mutants while Blue becomes New X-Men.

Actually, there's that whole extra team running around in X-Men Gold right? Armor, Rockslide, Blob, Ernst, No Girl, Anole, and a couple others? Make them the New X-Men. It's about time they got their due. At least Anole, Rockslide, and Armor.

Wasn't that supposed to be Generation X

Has anyone tried Joe Casey's book, Sex? It's like if Batman really never knew what relationships were, quit being Batman, then tried to go figure it all out. Multiple gratuitous sex scenes per issue because Image, but it's p good.

I just read through Hewligan's Haircut and I adored it. Like with Shade, Milligan uses madness to really just do all kinds of weird stuff and it rules. Hewlett's art is amazing as well incorporating all sorts of different techniques to really sell the concept of madness and different dimensions. The romance beneath it all is just the cherry on top. Great little graphic novel. Highly recommended. Good and weird.

I just got laid off from my job of 9 1/2 years. I’m in shell shock right now. 😕

Damn, sorry to hear that. Hope you can find something in the near future.

I should have cut my regular sized trade collection in half before I moved but now is also a time. I have to read comics...

First up: Judge dread complete case files vol 3,so far it’s a kinda silly comic strip type book.

RatskyWatsky

Hunky Nostradamus
Low by Rick Remender.

The first volume of Dept. H by Matt Kindt I read was quite decent.

Low by Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini

Low and Snyder's The Wake are both awesome and set in the ocean.

Marvel Knights: Submariner.

Its a great horrorstory. Its one of the best lovecratian comics I have read in a long time.

I guess it's technically on the ocean rather than "in" it but I really liked Brian Wood's "The Massive" (sort of a slow-motion eco-apocalypse thing... sort of). Also Scott Snyder's "The Wake" (more horror)

Dept. H and Low are the first things that come to mind and are heavily underwater. Snyder's The Wake as well, although I ultimately didn't think it was one of his stronger works. I suppose some Aquaman would qualify if you're into that.

Thanks all! :D Those sound pretty interesting, especially Low.

@Dan, which Aquamans are good? There are literally a million different ones. 🤔

I would expect a New Mutants book to at least have some core members from the previous books.

Finally got around to reading Angelic #1 by Spurrier. It's a really cute, colorful book. I didn't like it right away but it grabbed me eventually. Main character is totes adorbz.

X-Men Blue is the best book outside of Astonishing. Y'all need to let the O5 thing go.

Rename X-Men Gold to Uncanny, find a new writer. Put Soule on "X-Men" with his Astonishing team. Rename X-Men Blue to "X-Men: New Mutants" and keep doing what the book is already doing. Cut Gen X because it's not firing on all cylinders and I don't care about the cast at all.

Cancel Cable. Cancel Iceman. Cancel Jean Grey. Stop making solo ongoings focused on one X-Man. If you want to do minis, great. X-Men is about the interactions. ALL TEAM BOOKS ALL THE TIME UNLESS YOUR CODE-NAME IS WOLVERINE!

Speaking of Wolverine: One Wolverine book with the OG in space trucker mode, OML stays in X-Men, Laura keeps her book, and Weapon X is the catch all Wolverine book with every Wolverine doing Wolverine shit.

In short:

X-Men (flagship, big shit, all day, every day)
Uncanny X-Men (Weird shit, magic, other dimensions, go wild)
X-Men: New Mutants (O5+alt reality X-Men)
X-Force (Weapon X+Cable)
Wolverine: Space Trucker
All-New Wolverine
Weapon X (All Wolverines ever!)

Done.

Each Jean issue has been Jean and... Someone.

Blue started off great-but has tapered off lately in my opinion...

I'd probably echo the other comment about the first four volumes of the New52 run by Geoff Johns. Those Geoff Johns arcs are full of crazy sea creatures and mayhem though. I admittedly haven't read anything since then.

I enjoyed the '70s Death of a Prince storyline, too, but that's certainly dated and might not be what you want. That's about the entirety of my Aquaman-specific reading history.

Horror comics bore me to tears
Japan has had tons of fantastic ones since the 70s. I’ve read too many.
I just cant imagine me being scared or suspenseful whilst reading a comic
Unlike with film and games, books and comics require a bit more of the reader. I recommend setting up a good atmosphere. That’s an important aspect. Read with just a lamp at night in the dark. Play some atmospheric, creepy music, like the Silent Hill OST without vocal tracks. It’s pretty fun if you like horror.

How are those Junji Ito books? I keep meaning to pick some up but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Art looks great, though.
I’m a huge fan. I’ve read I think every Horror series he’s ever written. If you’re gonna read stuff available legally and in English, don’t read Dissolving Classroom. Read everything else.
I just got laid off from my job of 9 1/2 years. I’m in shell shock right now. 😕
I hope you can make a quick recovery. Take the time to reassess what’s next and spend time with loved ones.
some sort of shonen magical girl thing would be dope
Magical girl series’ target audience 99% of the time is preschool and elementary school girls. I’ve never seen a magical girl series published in a shounen magazine.

I dig this.

EDIT: Well, actually, not totally. I'm still way too in love with the idea of, if someone wants to tell an X-Men story, but can't justify a whole run, then Marvel just gives them a mini with Astonishing X-Men and that's it. Want to bring back Logan and make him a space trucker for 12 issues? Boom. Want to tell an eight issue run of Jean Grey coming back and reclaiming her place? Done. 10 issue return of Corsair doing shit? Fucking done. A one shot staring contest between Cyclops and Eye Boy? Fucking go ahead. Who cares. Just stick it all under this roof. It'll curb the incessant desire to throw out billions of minis and solos and derailments from other books. Guaranteed there are some fantastic ideas that just won't work for more than three issues.

Pose is nice for this Gwen statue. Not feeling the gloss look for the white part of her costume through.

Vampire baby momma Jubilee is amazing. Don't you dare take this from me.
*Baby momma Jubilee is amazing. Her atrocious vampire powers have nothing to do with it. They are irrelevant. They need to go.

I'm pressed she seemingly isn't coming back for Dark Phoenix. She deserves the spotlight. I'd rather Lana Condor than J-Law hogging up screentime as J-Law and not Mystique.

It's an extra layer of adversity. Vampire powers are vampire powers. It's not like her mutant powers were anything special. "Oh but she blew up things with Synch and Emma Frost that one time so that was cool!" Doesn't matter. Jubilee could be a normal ass human at this point. What makes Jubilee endearing is that it's Jubilee.

Wanted to jump into Tom King's run of Batman Rebirth, but I've heard middling things about the start of it. I wanted to purchase a volume but was told it only starts to get good on the 3rd volume, I AM BANE which collects issues #16-20, 23-24 and Batman Annual #1. Is this an accurate recommendation or should I just start from Volume 1?

BUT THEY WERE PRETTY. VAMPIRE POWERS AREN'T PRETTY.

Besides she has enough adversity being in Gen X lmfao.

Just start from the beginning. I've read the first sixteen issues and thought it was all great, personally.
