Company logos that changed for the worse...

Well, fucking Paul Rand got 100K back in 1986 to design this:

You should read the thought process/design manual Rand made for Steve Jobs when pitching the logo.

For its time, it was quite progressive. In fact Rand was doing the minimalist "flat" logo which are such a craze in the past decade back in the 60s-70s!

His rejected Ford logo (late 60s!) would totally fit in with today's logos. I actually like it a lot (has a nice traditional yet modern look to it)

Movie studio logos during the 1960s and 1970s looked like ass.

You know, I've always noticed this individually, but never really thought about them as a whole group before. Wonder what the hell was going on in Hollywood at the time.

At least they all seem to have managed to regain their senses sometime in the 80s.

I like the old ones better for here, and it isn't nostalgia talking.

Also every time I see the old Chrome logo I wretch a little. I can't believe how bad it looks now. New logo FTW.

The 1973 Pepsi Logo is the best, imo. Not just because I grew up with it but because it was simple and had symmetry. None of the others have symmetry.

I can't tell you how many time i have pointed out the glove is an "M and B" and blown peoples minds. logo is the best.

to be fair, they still use the ball and glove...it is still a big part of the merchandise and they wear the pinstripe and ball/glove logo unis every friday/sunday home game. so it hasn't been replaced so much...but the current logo is fine...

There new logo is definitely better than the one they used directly after the switch. Many teams keep what they now refer to as retro jerseys and logos but many of them are actually better than the current stuff. Blue Jays and Orioles went back to logos that are closer to their older logos for this upcoming season

I love his work, and I'm sure he was a visionary. One of the greats.

But still, no matter how much of a thought process he went to create the NeXT (<- I must confess I like the NeXT brand with the lowercase "e" he created though) logo, I can't relate to it at all and it still looks completely out of place on those computers to my eyes. I feel like SJ went with it because the 100K were already lost, he wouldn't get any changes to it (much less new versions), and ultimately it was a Paul Rand job.

Bank of New Zealand :S

I loved this one

Then they changed it to this one which was horrible:

Then finally to:

two years later.

I cannot figure out why? The first one is easily the better of the three.

Second one for me. The first one, really?

I prefer the latest one, as well as for Alfa Romeo. Peugeot I can't choose, but the current one is far from bad.

Ughh...I'm a Marlins fan, but...I just don't know.

Holy shit. You win the thread. That's the worst re-branding ever.

This is a great blog covering logo design (I believe I actually discovered it on GAF a while back):

The most recent one that has affected me is the new Blue Jays logo: http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/hi_hi_birdie.php

Looks nice and definitely an improvement over the old one, but something looks off compared to the original.

The one on the right is a huge improvement, IMO. I think it looks great.
