Confirmed: Sony Qriocity on-demand movie service

PSN = downloadable videos (buy or rent)

Qriocity = on-demand streaming videos (rental only)

That's my understanding anyway.

It's strange since you can do streaming with the PSN video store, you just have to hit the "Play video while downloading" button.

I'm guessing the new service is more for having a less generic term for the video store, especially for non-Playstation products. Having it optimized for streaming and devices without HDDs is nice too, I guess.

And if they're still going pay-per-use instead of a flat rate, they can forget it.

I agree 100%

So they won't need now the movie store in PSN for PS3/PSP nope?
Because this look like the same, but streaming instead of downloading and for Bravias, BR players etc too.

Good point, that would be perfect on TVs. And if they have the Google tie-in as rumored, they cant keep calling it PSN Movie store, it needs its own name. And since its not a movie oriented name, they can add other things, that pique your curiosity like music, music videos, apps and so forth.

You can still pretty much stream using the PSN video store, can't you? Don't see the point in making a separate service just for this.
Couldnt the same be said about bringing in Netflix? I see your point, we know will have 3 versions of video service. So I'm hoping this service will be really good, I dont use the PSN video store, just Netflix but the selection isnt for me.

Awesome another service that will be unavailable on Latin America.
AWESOME!

What we currently have is not really streaming, its downloading and watching while you download.

This seems to be like Netflix, streaming only, no download and dynamic quality based on network. Which means a great fit for TVs and other devices like mobile phones and others.

It should be interesting.

What's up with sony and recently dumb names for their products. This and move+sub controller. Wtf sony.

It seems like the Sony likes using the letter Q in products like Apple likes using the little 'i'.

I was just wondering, is this site truly accurate for telling how many PS3s are activated for an account? It shows I have 5 PS3s activated, but that should only be 3. The activation dates appear to be off as well. If it's true though, I may have to confront my "friends"...

It should be accurate. I had more than I thought on there, but as soon as I had a couple people deactivate they went away on the Qrirocitiy website.
Sounds like your friends are getting up in your shit.

Argh! Looks like I'll have to ask them then. I wonder, I do mutually share with my cousin, but his old PS3 broke down last year. He was able to revive it and told me he deactivated my account, but maybe he left the actual profile intact along with the password, and whoever bought the old PS3 from him cheap just reactivated it? Arghhh

So Qriocity is also a music streaming service?

Today at IFA 2010 in Berlin, Sony announced that Music Unlimited Powered by Qriocity, a cloud-based digital music service, will be coming to PlayStation 3 later this year.

The service will give you access to millions of songs that are stored and synchronised through the cloud and can be accessed via PS3, BRAVIA TVs, Blu-ray Disc players, Blu-ray Home Theatre systems and VAIO computers, with one single account and without the need to manage digital files.

Further details, including exactly when and in which countries Music Unlimited Powered by Qriocity will launch, will be announced soon.

Quite some multimedia additions ahead with this as well as both 3D Blu-ray movies and MUBI available in October

I do hope this won't corrupt hard drives.

After all, someone once told me that Qriocity killed the FAT.

I'm so, so sorry
