Corpse Party: Blood Drive (Vita) releasing in NA on October 13th

I bought the first game and Book of Shadows ages ago. Yet to start any of them though! I should really get around to them.

I like the music in that trailer...looks like fun, never played one of these, might give it a try,my Vita is collected dust lately,I need to pick it back up.

God damn October belongs to Japanese games. Dengeki Bunko, Disgaea 5, Saint Seiya, Corpse Party, Dragon Quest Heroes, Tales of Zestiria, Code: Realize and what the hell might as well include Dancing All Night. Corpse Party is guaranteed Day 1 for me though.

Well gee a visit from the man himself; thanks boss that really helps. Now if only I can remember how the hell the first game ended.

Spoilers
Morishige, Shinohara, Suzumoto and the teacher from the school they came from are all dead sadly. Kizami and his *friend* that he kicked down a hole are dead. I can't remember what became of Naho because I cant remember what relevance she had on the story anyway besides being an author of the blog that the one girl liked. Which was apparently fake in terms of the ritual anyway. I am pretty sure they appeased Sachiko but I can't remember exactly how they did it. The rest got out safely and returned back to their school/world/home.

I think I got all that right. And I guess Chapter 8 of Book of Shadows picks up from there which is what I need to get around to reading before this game comes out.

As a diehard Corpse Party fan, I can't say I've been impressed with any of XSEED's trailers for Blood Drive. In fact, I've been pretty disappointed by them given what they had to work with.

I have this pre ordered but I think I'll wait. With TitS SC still supposedly coming soon and Cold Steel as well I just won't have time for it. Still got 4 chapters of Book of Shadows to get through too (despite having bought it day one).
Get cracking on completing those.
If you really want to build the anticipation for this title, make a point of wrapping up the Blood Drive prologue chapter on the weekend of October 9th-11th (or on Canadian Turkey Day... the 12th).
You won't WANT to wait once you do.

I'd love to see a PSN sale on the first two games...... Come on XSEED! :D
This makes too much sense not to happen.

I adored the first, but I still need to play Book of Shadows. I've also heard that a lot of things get undone from the first game, but hopefully I'll still enjoy what they do with the story in the sequels.
This is actually not the case with Book of Shadows. Although I will say that "getting things undone from the first game" provides a core driving motivation in the plot of Blood Drive.

Never got very far in the first game back when it first came out, but I've always meant to get back to it and this having the 2 soundtracks sold me on picking it up. Guess it's pretty fitting to be playing through the series in October.
Getting to experience the entirety of the Corpse Party "Heavenly Host" trilogy in one fell swoop would be an absolute trip. I'm envious.

Four of these (chapters 1, 2, 5, and 6) are alternate-universe takes on the first game, following one of the wrong endings from that game in order to pull a Higurashi-like time-loop scenario that asks a lot of "what-if" questions and focuses primarily on characters who didn't get as much development in the first Corpse Party (like Mayu and Morishige). These four chapters are non-canon.
Mayu's chapter (Demise) is easily my favorite of this batch... and of Book of Shadows as a whole (apart from the Blood Drive setup at the end).
Purgatory is probably my 2nd fave due to Sayaka making a strong impression and just the novelty of seeing Naho behaving like a normal girl.

I know the visual style changed but is the sound effects and voices still important/creepy in Blood Drive? I might have to break out my bigger headphones when playing this if thats the case.

There's only been the one. I'm not sure why that's being listed as a new trailer, since it's just our E3 trailer again.

We have a new trailer in production, and it's looking pretty cool so far. Hopefully you like it (I like our E3 trailer too, though, so we might have different standards here!).

Yeah, still uses the binaural 3D audio. IMHO, it's not used to quite as great an effect as in the previous titles, but it definitely still has its moments.

Aww...I went from like 11 to 6 in a nanosecond. I'm glad its still in though, i've never had to glance around my dark room at noises while playing a game like in Corpse Party.

Mainly I just want a trailer that sufficiently hypes up Blood Drive for fans of the franchise without spoiling any of it unnecessarily. That's my only real standard here. I know it's tricky given the conscious decision to not fill a trailer full of Japanese voices despite the fact that they're central to driving the emotion of the game... BUT I think it can be done better than your marketing team has delivered thus far.

By the way, how's the PewDiePie thing going? Did you guys contact him yet?

Using voices from the game is actually not even possible due to weird contractual issues with the Japanese voice-acting. Our original announcement trailer for Book of Shadows had voiced lines from Kizami in it, for example, but we had to remove them because we weren't authorized to use those voices outside of the game proper.

Japanese voice-acting is weird stuff sometimes!

Also, our trailers for Blood Drive are designed more to attract new fans to the franchise than to appeal to those who are already fans, as... well, fans of the franchise are already in, you know? I mean, if you're into Corpse Party, you're going to want to play Blood Drive -- it almost goes without saying. The hard part is spreading awareness of the franchise to people who DON'T already know all about it -- and that's pretty much our goal with these trailers. We want to show off the game's atmosphere first and foremost, not necessarily go over the story. That's not the job of a trailer, that's the job of... well, me. ;)

By the way, how's the PewDiePie thing going? Did you guys contact him yet?

I have no idea. That's not my department. Sorry!

Well, I mean, I'm not asking for specifics but did you actually consider the idea at least? It'd be pretty cool.

Oh, yeah, of course! I man, PewDiePie's already successfully LPed both Corpse Party and Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, so you'd better believe we're all about establishing a good relationship with the guy. I don't think there's any shame in admitting that we REALLY LIKE IT when people with that many YouTube subscribers spread the word about our titles. ;)

Nice. I'm all for more exposure for the franchise.

Can't argue with the logic there. Trailers are a device to sell people on the series and, ultimately, existing fans shouldn't need to be sold.
That said, I think you can appeal to outsiders without spoiling things for the veterans.

In truth, the absence of being able to employ voice acting in the trailers that you do put together is a real kick in the teeth. NOT because of the lack of dialogue, mind you... but because of the lack of being able to showcase screams of terror. A trailer with more ominous and foreboding music, actual screams from jump scares (which sadly you can't include) and just something that is able to convey the unbridled tension of being chased through Heavenly Host by one of those trapped specters with the evil red eyes.

Corpse-Party-Blood-Drive-Shadow.jpg

I suppose the biggest criticism I would make is that the E3 trailer was just too darn busy.
And while this helps to mask the spoilers that were shared because no one's attention is fixated for too long, it also hinders the ability to really let people soak in the atmosphere.

Thats the standard price of PSN PSP games. This is full priced because it is a vita title. Theres no english vo.

At full price I thin English VA should really be included. I'm enjoying BoS more on my second attempt but I have to mute the voices which obviously affects the atmosphere.

Not realistic, it's probably not a very feasible financially as the original audio was done through binaural recording

Naho was dead all along, she gave into the Darkening. It was just a specter. I think BoS explains why she was Darkened. If not because of her mentor, because of what became of Sayaka(and it was Naho's fault). My theory, anyway.

Does this wrap things up neatly, or lead right into Dead Patient?

there's no way they have the budget for that, and the Japanese VAs and audio in general is amazing(at least in the first game, I need to play the second one).

So I expect Blood Drive to still be stellar and worth the full price.

I'm not sure English voice actors could do these roles justice.

I mean, they could with the right direction... but just the amount of screaming involved, the amount of dialogue that would need to be recorded, the unconventional binaural audio setup that would be needed and the very niche genre this game falls into... it simply wouldn't have been a smart investment on XSEED's part.

And I say that despite the fact that I would love to hear someone like Colleen Clinkenbeard, Trina Nishimura, Michelle Ruff, Cristina Vee, Leah Clark or Kari Wahlgren take a stab at voicing Ayumi... all of whom have already taken on notable Asami Imai roles in the past. I would also be cool with Stephanie Sheh who rocks at just about everything.

It just doesn't make sense. $39 price tag or not.

Does this wrap things up neatly,
Yes.
or lead right into Dead Patient?
Also yes. Or, to be more specific, this lays the groundwork for it. This is still a conclusive trilogy break. Just one that respects continuity.

Was there a noticeable jump in sales when he was playing the first two?

I'm not so sure anything was really spoiled in that trailer. Remember, a spoiler isn't a spoiler without context -- you only know some of those scenes are spoilers because you know exactly what's happening in them. But people who haven't played the game won't have any idea what they're looking at.

And that's sort of the idea behind the trailer -- to show flashes of scenes that look interesting, but the viewer has no idea what's actually going on, and is thus left wanting to learn more.

(I'm not refuting your feedback, BTW -- we will definitely take this to heart, and consider it when making future trailers! We always do. I'm just trying to explain what we were going for with that first trailer.)

At full price I thin English VA should really be included. I'm enjoying BoS more on my second attempt but I have to mute the voices which obviously affects the atmosphere.

As others have pointed out, there was no way we could possibly afford to dub this game. Not only are there more lines of voice-acting in it than practically every other game we've ever dubbed combined (probably an exaggeration, but I doubt by much!), but a good chunk of those lines are recorded binaurally (and I don't even know what studio around here would support that, nor -- I'm sure -- would it be cheap)... and, to top it all off, the sheer amount of voice-acting in the game would preclude us from offering dual voice since the number of files would likely require us to upgrade the Vita card to the next size up (which is also not at all cheap, especially when mass-producing Vita cards!), so we'd wind up having to offer the game dub-only, which would be kind of disastrous for this series.

There's just no way we could possibly offer an English dub for a Corpse Party game. We'd have to have AAA money for that, and believe me... we ain't got AAA money. ;)

(CP1 and BoS)
Does this wrap things up neatly, or lead right into Dead Patient?

It does both, though to what extent it leads into Dead Patient is unclear -- the scenes in Dead Patient chapter 1 that tie into Blood Drive are very minimal, and no subsequent chapters of Dead Patient have been released yet to further clarify how the two Corpse Parties are connected.

So for now, I'd say "it wraps things up (more or less) neatly." Sound good? ;)

You should play the game(s). The OAV doesn't do the story justice at all. It's much too rushed -- they're cramming far too much into four episodes, and leaving out a lot of really crucial info.

Oh yeah, that reminds me!

For those of you who disliked the box art, no need to worry: the slip-cover is reversible, and when reversed, the Japanese box-art is on the front and the Japanese LE box-art is on the back.
