There are nice, but the air of elitism at these places just turn me off.

edit: Actually to post above me is more to the point about how I feel as well.

I worked at a country club for almost 7 years through most of high school and college. There were certainly some members who were kind if snobbish, but plenty of cool and normal people. There was one guy who would show up every once in a while and you'd set up his golf clubs then give you $20 to park his Jag. Parking lot is literally 200 feet from where to drop off spot is.

Guys, let's start our own country club for Gaffers only. Well call it the Donkey Kong Country Club. We'll play nothing but games that has Donkey Kong in it.

Country clubs are the shit...if you're a member (or an invited guest) of one.

If you're on the outside, they are bastions of elitism, arrogance, and bigotry.

Probably didn't want all the other members to see how shit his parking is? That's what I would do if I couldn't park my Jaguar.

country clubs are the bomb dig

My friend's father is a member at a local country club. They invited me to play a round for free a couple weeks ago. We were on the first tee getting ready to start and a club official approaches my friends dad, and he turns to me and says "you're gonna have to buy a pair of shorts in our pro shop, because we don't allow cargo shorts on our course".

Yes, the pair of pockets on the front of my shorts meant they were not OK at this country club. LOL

So I was escorted into the shop and shown a couple shorts to buy. They were $50 shorts.

Thankfully my friend's dad insisted he pick up the tab since he didn't warn me of the ridiculous rules.

Yeah, country club's are kind of stupid.
:lol

who shows up to play golf in fucking cargo shorts?

no one past age 10 should be wearing cargo shorts in public

The hate for cargo shorts is the lamest internet meme and it is a shame some people are pathetic enough to take it seriously.

Banned
I've never been a member of one. I would never join one that discriminates. The only factors should be A) is there a membership spot available and B) can you afford the fees. Nothing to do with race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or whatever else should be used to deny membership. Totally unacceptable.

As far as dress codes go, I'm totally fine with that. A lot of public golf clubs have them, too.

I'm an expert

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
Bayonne Golf is mine. Kind of required for client stuff, though I like watching golf more than playing.

I am a member of a country club. It's great. In the summer we can go hang out at the pool and have cocktails, play golf, tennis, eat out on the big porch overlooking the golf course, and never have to worry about tipping. In the winter you play paddle tennis and drink beers by the fire.

I wear cargo shorts almost every day, because between my wallet, keys, phone, headphones, etc., I have a lot of stuff to carry around.

Looks like I need to go buy some new shorts. :/

Get rid of the wallet. You should easily be able to fit that stuff in your pockets without cargo pockets. 3 keys on a small ring, money clip with maybe 3-4 cards, a phone, and headphones. Any more than that and you just need a bag.

Never been to a country club. I don't play enough golf.

I used to live in an apartment building that was linked to the Terminal City Club in Vancouver so I could use all the facilities. Like private pool, dining, lounges, gym, etc. It was pretty awesome. I think it costs like $25k for the year to sign up normally.
