Crackdown 3: 10 minute pre-alpha gameplay demo

Are the pieces predefined on the buildings? Like it consists of these building blocks and it falls apart with those (say 200) pieces everytime.

Doesnt look like some of the pieces that get other stuff on it brake one more time.

Check out the footage. The say that building are physically built. So they have foundations and then covered in concrete/glass etc.

Yep, the one server will go down when it's hot outside. They could move the one server dedicated for this to a cold region but perhaps the internet there is too bad.
Let's hope they get the cooling right for the one server or else there will be an outrage!

Lol don't get me wrong... I feel like people are fishing for things to be concerned about... It an online game... Shit might happen from time to time... But I feel like people are trying to trivial the accomplishment here...

"What if my internet goes out?", "what if a server crashes?"... These aren't unique to Crackdown. But people are making it seem like limitations of the Internet are a reason enough not to invest in this tech or something... Like they never played an online game before...

The buildings are built in peices (support beams, concrete slabs, wood, glass, etc) instead of being a single peice of geometry like in most games... But the large peices of building material are also prone to breaking into smaller pieces...

You can destroy things, but is it fun ? Don't know if the "technical prowess" is enough to make the game fun.

Judging by the video where he shoots little pieces out of the concrete I'd say everything is made up of very small pieces. So even after a building collapsed we still can further destory the remains, until only minibits are left.

Going by what we've seen so far it'll be a blast to just destory the city and I'm sure they'll show us a whole lot more in the future.

Yeah, and don't get me wrong. The current gen consoles are already mostly online only, anyway. Or better sad, without internet, they are really crippled.

You can still jump around buildings, power slam enemies and drive in transforming cars. Exploding buildings is just an extra layer. Boosting 100ft In the air and raining down rockets on some poor player as he hides in a building, will always be fun.

Could you imagine a new blast corps with this tech? OMG that would be amazing.

Wow. This is a game changer if the destruction in the final game is half as impressive as the tech demo. Amazing. If Quantum Break and Scalebound didn't already convince me, I NEED to buy an Xbox One next year.

There's more to crackdown than destroying buildings... This is the big new feature, but all of the things that made the first game fun are back... The leveling systems, the transforming cars, the orbs... The open mission structure...

This was just a demonstration of the engine... This isn't the extent of the gameplay.

Watch the video at 6:55 - the big pieces crumble into lots of tiny debris, this is the real deal.

Its certainly a weird idea to have multiple servers running different parts of a level. I guess that's the benefit of Azure stuff since they just spin up more as the game demands it.

Am I the only one that thought the shadows in the first demo wall were pretty impressive as well? (I'm easily amused)

P.s. The destructions are amazing...and I really don't understand the people saying the graphics are bad.

Damn that is incredible for PS3. I wish more developers tried to do destruction. DICE sadly backed out after Bad Company 2.

As far as i understand Everything is physics based so for example concrete has a certain density and level of strength and when it get hits with a certain force from a certain angle it'll crumble as per real world physics based on real world calculations which are handled by cloud processing.

They are building these buildings using real physics and materials and they are letting the cloud handle the immense amounts of calculations involved in this.

Unlike a game like red faction which just had some individual prices attached to each other and just used some basic physics calculations to handle the destruction.

I could be completely wrong on all of this however this is just my own understanding of it.

Looks like an updated version of Red Faction in terms of destructibility, which is awesome. This game is going to be super fun. Neat stuff. That being said, I thought I'd be more impressed with the tech. Hopefully this sort of leveraging of cloud physics computing will be done on the PC where there is hardware that can actually output better graphics along with the physics. The graphics are rather simplistic, which to be fair, is par for the course for crackdown games where it's not the emphasis. But it would still be nice to see this level of destructibility with an aesthetic like the latest GTA.

It's also a pre alpha build so I wouldn't draw conclusions about graphics.

It's not going to look that much different aesthetically in the finished game. It's a Crackdown game after all. It doesn't really matter though because the game is guaranteed be really fun, especially with the larger scale destruction now.

I don't understand why some people act like gaming on servers is a new thing.
"Hah so this online multiplayer thing, it looks fancy and all, but what if your internet is cut off ??" like it's 1996 or something.

Exactly, internet-dependant gaming has been around for years, we just rebranded it "always online games" like it's different so it can join the list of things people get mad about.

I think cloud computing technology is amazing and I get what they're trying to do with this game. And while this looks good, I can see them putting too much of an emphasis on destruction when playing online to the point where it becomes monotonous.

I also see there being disparity between the offline vs online experience. My 2 cents.

Alright, folks, back to arguing.

Crackdown has also classically has a cell-shaded cartoonish look. Would be nice to get some actual footage and not camera stuff since most of the detail is badly blurred but the classic gameplay elements are not shown. This is certainly just a tech demo to show how far along the destruction has come.

It's a physics demo. Not sure how anyone can make any judgments about the look of the world or anything like that.

Quite impressive. Having an entire city destructible to that level? More than my tiny mind can comprehend.

Also, you'd have to name an Xbox gang "The Duke Boys," right?

Going into Gamescom, the narrative was, well now that the cloud hasn't been discussed, I expect MS has fully left that fluff behind. Now the search for a new narrative begins.... Well the destruction looks good, but does the cloud computing aid the gpu, I mean where are the particles...... And another example of the thirst for anti-narrative: well the destruction looks impressive, but where's the fun?

These guys are so good at redefining the truth, they should work for Fox News.

Have you played any of the Crackdown games?

yeah, same here; I consider this to be more impressive than the buildings falling over; altough the dynamic loadbalancing looks interesting.

Yeah that lump of concrete just falling down looks like nothing extraordinary but it's quite a complex technical achievement when you think about it (and the fact that you can do that to any wall all over the city)
It might be convenient to create nice sniping spots, too. :)

hahah I'll wait until the game comes out before I reach any conclusions. I mean, it's not like we've ever been misled before.

No one has explained how they're going to make all these buildings destructible but also make them have orbs you reach by climbing them. That alone makes me believe this will be pretty limited in scope.

Watch video in this thread. They explain how they are doing it.

A Microsoft thread is never quite complete until Bam Bam arrives.
