That was the best part about Brawl- reading the Dojo updates everyday. Not actually playing the game, but just getting hyped about it.

Its 7 pages long, and Google Translator tells me Smash Bros talk makes up almost the entire interview. I saw something about 50 characters, but he could be saying "no more than 50 characters".
In any case we need a translator.

100 characters??!
Wasn't this obvious? Even Iwata said so in the conference when he announced it. That Sakurai and Project Sora had been working on Kid Icarus, so they haven't done much of anything on Smash Bros. but that he was going to promise it was going to be made anyway.User33 said:Turns out the game hasn't started development yet:

Their development might go smoother if they stopped disassembling the team after ever game.User33 said:Turns out the game hasn't started development yet:

It first describes what E3 is and stuff (I guess the Japanese don't know too much about it). It says something along the lines of a new Super Smash Brothers being released for the 3DS and the Wii U, with the two games being developed "parallel" to each other. I assume this means that they're two different games or versions or something.
He talks about how the 3DS version is supposed to be, like, an introduction the series. It's supposed to introduce Super Smash Bros. to an audience that might not be familiar with it.
He talks about employment or something. Uh, I dunno, something like he had to turn down a lot of applicants for the development team because he wanted to try and keep the same people who've been making the Smash Bros. games from the start.
He says today is May 11th (which means this is an old-ass interview) and that he's been hard at work on the game for 2 years now.
He says that he's been coming up with ideas for the series for a while, but he couldn't make the game because there was no hardware for it (basically he's had the ideas floating around in his head for some time, but he couldn't develop the games until Nintendo finished up making their new consoles).
He says that there's been a lot of trial and error with the development of the game because they didn't quite know what the 3DS had "tucked in the box", so I'm guessing they've been playing around with the hardware and seeing what kind of stuff they can do to make the new games unique.
He says that in the two years since they started working on the game, he's confident that things will run a lot smoother because they've been able to get their hands on the final hardware of the 3DS.
They make some joke about how they would come up with an idea for something in one game and then say, "But that's not going into the other one!", which I guess goes to further support that the two games are going to be different (the example they give is a 'stationary aircraft').
He says that it kind of hurts him to pick and choose features for the games because he knows that Smash Bros. fans are so eager for the games, and he doesn't want someone who buys it on the 3DS to feel like they were gimped out of stuff that's on the Wii U version.
He says whether or not one game would be an extension of the other was never really considered. He says something about having 50 characters on the console version, double the stages they had previously, and delivering all of that with gorgeous visuals.
He says that the handheld version is appealing to him because it's unprecedented for the series and there are a lot of possibilities that aren't necessarily on the console version. He mentions it being more like the original Smash Bros. on the N64, noting that you can set handicaps in matches (I dunno, I thought the others had that as well).
He says that the 3DS version will be more "individualized" or something. He says that collecting figures and raising stats is an artificial reward and that the reward you would get from playing the 3DS version would be an "experience increase in the skill of your fingers". I think he's saying that they plan on throwing out the figure collecting on the 3DS version and focusing mainly on the fighting.
I think some of it has to be about Kid Icarus such as the in development for 2 years part. Or did it specifically mention SSB?Triton55 said:Partial summary of the Iwata Asks from translator on /v/:
Hmmm... some of this stuff is contradictory to what we've heard about the game not officially being in development yet. I guess he's been working on the 3DS version first?
More should be coming
Fuck me. This translating shit is giving me a headache. Some of the stuff he says doesn't make sense.
Anywho, he goes on to mention something about "stationary machines" which could or could not be arcade cabinets (it kind of sounds like what he's talking about, but I'm 99.99% sure he's referring to the Wii U). He talks about practicing and improving your skills on the 3DS version and then taking your new-found skill to a public forum (probably by playing online on the console).
He claims the Wii U version will be in HD, run at 60 frames per second, have "very gorgeous graphics", dynamic effects, and smooth character movements.
He makes the comparison that the 3DS version is your "take home" version and your Wii U version is your "public" version (again, very reminiscent of fighting games on home consoles and their arcade cabinet counterparts).
They talk about how the Wii U version has more 'volume', which I assume to mean it has more content, but he points out that the base game hasn't changed very much.
They talk about blowing each other, which I assume is their phrase for winning against each other. He talks about how he wants the good people and the not-so-good people to have a fair match and still have competition between the two.
Okay, okay. So to expand on that, he's saying that he wants the 3DS version to be more accessible. He wants good players and bad players to have the same amount of fun (which is why he mentions handicaps). He basically mentions that the 3DS version is going to be your "casual" version of Super Smash Bros. and the Wii U version will be aimed more toward "hardcore" fans.
They talk about blowing each other
Uh...huh.They talk about blowing each other, which I assume is their phrase for winning against each other.
That Pacers team was staked with talent yet got no where. Thuggish Tactics in SSB please.P90 said:
He talks about how secretive he had to be when making the game for the 3DS because when he was first approached about it, the 3DS hadn't been announced yet, that nobody knew about the new handheld. He says something along the lines of how he's been excited to announce the game, but he hasn't been able to because of the 3DS being so secretive.
He also says that a working title for the game has been "Super Smash Bros. 2"
Sounds like the 3DS version is the "casual" version and the WiiU version is the "hardcore" versionA Link to the Snitch said:Ouch, so Sakurai is still going on about balancing competitive and casual players? If it isn't optional, than Sakurai needs to get his priorities straight.
To be fair, Sora is just one work-for-hire person - Sakurai. It would be nice he always had a development team on hand, but I don't think that's his style.Nirolak said:Their development might go smoother if they stopped disassembling the team after ever game.

He didn't mention that the console version will have 50 characters.
The whole interview is just general discussion on the direction of the next Smash Bros game. Nothing is decided.
That "50 character" part of the interview was like "Naturally thinking, the next iteration of the Smash Bros game would be something like "Let's have 50 characters in the game" and "Let's have double the amount of stages in the game"". But then they go on and say that they want to do things differently, according to the strength of each version of the device whether it's handheld or console.
Don't believe anything about those translations. I am at work right now so I can't do any translation, but those surely cannot be believed.
The whole interview is basically a brainstorm of a brainstorm, just throwing around ideas and general directions that the game CAN go, but again, nothing is concrete.

Link is third party confirmed.- Apparently Sakurai had no direct involvement with either Sonic's or Link's implementation in Brawl.
