Cross-Platform Smash Bros. coming to 3DS/WiiU, [Has Not Started Development]

Well, I bet there are a lot of Japanese gamers who grew up with the Fire Emblem series.

Well, the mechanics weren't I don't think. I still love the game and play often but I prefer Melee's gameplay.

Brawl also introduced tripping.

I think Mega Man should certainly be in, and then maybe Simon. I don't know about Ryu. I love NG but I don't see it as being as big in Nintendo history as Simon/MM.

But Ryu from Street Fighter is more important than all those characters combined

also his name in Smash will be "Ryu from Street Fighter" to avoid confusion with lesser Ryus

Dude Ninja Gaiden was in The Wizard (and also Nintendo is on pretty good terms with Tecmo so it'd be pretty easy to do but my point stands).

No they'd just call NG Ryu "Hayabusa."

If I had to pick a Ryu I would have to take SF Ryu. He's just too much of a fighting game icon to dismiss

I love smash bros and the new nintendo system looks really cool but I have one concern, controls. Does anyone else think it's going to be painful to play smash on that huge controller? It would be cool if they had a way to hook up a gamecube controller.

CCPro.

All I know is the CC is going to be used for the other 3-4 people playing. That doesn't bode well considering I hate the CC for Smash.

(WM+Nunchuk works ok though, just not as well as GC)

Considering the fact that Fire Emlem is a series that started on the NES along with all of those you mentioned. It's nostalgia value, at least for the Japanese is equal if not possibly greater than those. Americans feel no nostalgia to Marth because his game only came out in the west in the DS remake some years ago, while Japan has been with the franchise since the beginning. Also if we get Ryu I want the blue ninja one not shitty looking leather bondage motherfucker.

Green Scar said:
So many NES kids grew up playing Mega Man in both the West and Japan, and would have continued on to the X series and so forth. How many of those do you think played Fire Emblem? Just think about it. Mega Man is a big part of Nintendo history, and a bigger part than Fire Emblem. He's more deserving of a place in a celebration of Nintendo's past and present than a good amount of the Brawl roster.

Megaman is a part of Capcom's history. Sure his early games were on the NES and SNES, but after those it started going all over the place. His inclusion depends on Capcom, and I'm all for classic megaman being included. He's not more important than Marth to Nintendo, to gamers maybe, but not Nintendo.

EDIT: I'd pick any other Ryu over SF Ryu. Talk about a dry and boring fucking character. Motherfucker has been in a bunch of games and nothing changes about his stale ass.

In terms of possible 3rd party characters I think he's at the top (that is if Sonic/Snake stay in)

I hope they let us lowly non-Japanese get a say if they do a character poll again.

Someone like, say, Altair or whatever can fuck off though.

If Ubisoft got a character, you know it would be a rabbid.

Yeah, also I think between SF and MM, SF is the higher selling franchise and thus even more important and representative of Capcom (Resident Evil is #1 though).

Cheating cheater with his last name and everything

But as characters that came out around the time of NES it'd be interesting to see the mainstays as they are now in Smash Bros. I'd personally choose Ryu from SF but Mega Man would be a great choice too.

If we get 3rd Parties I'd prefer they start with symbolic mascots first, like Bomberman for Hudson or Pac-Man from Namco. Nintendo even had crossovers with those characters too!

Well, I disagree very much. Mega Man has always been on Nintendo, he's never stopped being on Nintendo. Marth has had, what, 3 games? And, all due respect to Fire Emblem and it's fans, but most people don't remember or know that character, outside of stuff like Smash Bros. of course. Those are facts. Mega Man was one of the few characters that could stand toe-to-toe with Mario, Link et al back on the NES, his games were played by millions of NES gamers, and for that, he is part of Nintendo history. Just like Cloud and Solid Snake are part of Sony's.

Marth is part of Nintendo history for being in a good game on a Nintendo console, as part of a Nintendo owned series. If Fire Emblem was third party, no-one would be discussing Marth for Smash Bros.

Rabbid as an assist trophy, Rayman as playable. :P

First Sakurai is making it again and then they announce this shit? Fuck, I'm already raging and the game hasn't even begun being made yet.

Getting body ready for more bad rosters, bad mechanics, pointless modes, and etc.

Wait did somebody just say Megaman is more important to Nintendo than Marth?

Good. Fucking. Lord. I can't be in this thread, my rage will spill the blood of millions.

Brawl is the least broken version of the game, so it makes sense. I don't know what you were expecting.

and yeah... those of us from the NES days link Megaman with Nintendo. Hell, even Capcom realizes this and made Famicom-era clones with MM9 and MM10.

It's nice to be able to speculate about Megaman in a Smash Bros. game on GAF again without the fear of a temp ban :D

You seriously need a pill, man...

You can choose five third-party characters. Sonic and Snake are still in.

Go.

1) Mega Man
2) Ryu from Street Fighter
3) Simon Belmont
4) Pac-man
5) Pong paddle

Ryu from Street Fighter would be pretty perfect...

Especially since Mario's move-set borrows from his...in Melee more so, since he has a fireball, spinning attack, and an uppercut. I imagine that Ryu would probably play like a heavier, more realistic Mario come to think of it, which would be pretty neat. Plus Ryu's no stranger to cross-over fighters, so I'd be surprised if he didn't get in.

Overall, I feel that they have enough representatives from the franchises that are already in, unless they want to dig deeper...the only ones I'd like to see are...

* Ridley. Just say he's the Other M one still growing and make him a bit smaller! Simple!
* King K. Rool. Sakurai was gonna add him, iirc, but didn't since he couldn't think of a moveset...but I think he'd probably play a bit like Donkey Kong. In the games he's really fast for his size, so make him a quick and heavy character like DK. Give him the super high jump, his crown throw, and the ability to run while carrying crates and barrels.
* Medusa. Female villain. Since Sakurai is developing Kid Icarus, I can see this. Who knows, he might pull a Kirby Series like he did in Brawl and include that new sword guy as well.
* Zoroark. But make her completely different from Mewtwo/Lucario and focus on her illusion abilities. I can't see them not including a 5th Gen Pokemon, and I don't think Gen 6 will be out (or it might just be coming out) by Smash 4.
* Tingle. Joke character, and have him replace Toon Link with joke versions of Link's moves.

Bring back Mewtwo (get rid of Lucario...I actually like Lucario more, in Smash atleast, but Mewtwo is more deserving imo) and all of the original eight have a villain counterpart...except for Yoshi. But honestly, I think they should just combine Yoshi with Mario by now, and make Pit take his place since he basically had so much focus in Brawl's SSE. They could have a Hero vs. Villain thing going on. I'd love that.

Beyond that, I'd like to see them introduce retro and lesser franchises...Lil Mac and Muddy Mole, Barbara Bat, Takamaru, Isa Jo, Issac, y'know, some fresh blood. I didn't like how the only new franchise we got in Brawl was Olimar and R.O.B.

OH...and TIN STAR. Instant buy if he gets in...us Western fans needs a character of our own for once!

Top Five 3rd Party
1. Ryu
2. Bomberman. He's been in a cross-over before with Wario, and a Smash Brothers-esque game with SNAKEEEEEEEE!
3. Slime. He's cameoed with Mario in Itadaki Street which is being released in the US as Fortune Street, plus Nintendo and Dragon Quest have been getting chummy lately with Dragon Quest getting games exclusively on the DS and Wii.
4. Travis Touchdown. Suda wants him in, right?
5. Megaman. Nuff said.

Deadstar said:
CCPRO looks sweet! I've never heard of it before this post. I'm not worried anymore.
Didn't know that was possible.
But yest, it is quite sweet. I have no problem playing Brawl with the CCPro, and I prefer it over GCN controllers only because my couch isn't particularly close to the TV/Wii.

Oh god oh god oh god don't do this to me, ahhhh. I'll have to limit myself to one per franchise to avoid go crazy

1) Mega Man
2) Rayman
3) Ryu (Street Fighter)
4) Chocobo Party. Essentially a mix of a Chocobo, a Ninja, a Red Mage and a Black Mage from the classic Final Fantasy games. Each characters get a B special move. Essentially like 4 characters in one, not like Ice Climbers though, because different characters would supply different attacks. Best way to implement S/NES FF imo, either that or Kefka
5) Banjo Kazooie, YEAH I WENT THERE

Man Smash threads always end up two ways for me. UNENDING HULK+NORSE GOD RAGE, and thinking about a good roster list.

3) Pacman I guess, considering his retroness. His moveset would have to get Fox/Captain Falcon'd, though
4) Simon
5) Bomberman

The only character that really needs in is MM, imo.

EDIT: Oh god, Slime would be amazing. He would just use Magic and kill everyone, though

Mike Jones from Startropics.

Takamaru vs. Mike Jones, east vs. west battle of exclusive characters in Zelda-like games.

For more old 1st-Party characters, another one I'd like to see is Starman from Pro Wrestling

redranger.png

- talk of creating another Smash Bros. began internally soon after the launch of Brawl
- Iwata thought that it might not be fair to ask Sakurai to create a Smash Bros. game for 3DS after just wrapping Brawl
- Kid Icarus: Uprising was decided as Project Sora's first game, as a way to build up knowledge of the platform
- newly hired staff at Project Sora had no idea that they were coming on-board to work on a Smash Bros. game after Kid Icarus
- Sakurai new automatically that a new Smash would be requested for both 3DS and Wii U
- Sakurai feels that just adding in new characters, better graphics and more stages wouldn't be the right path for this new Smash Bros.
- Sakurai believes a portable Smash experience allows for new ideas, but it also becomes more personal than the console experience
- both Iwata and Sakurai said that adding an element of growing your character through in-game experience would ruin the game
- Sakurai would like to see players build up their character on 3DS and then take them over to Wii U to show off
- this would make the "personal" portable space and the stadium-like "public" console space mesh together
- Wii U's power could lead to 60 frames per second visuals, high quality graphics, dynamic effects, and smooth character movements
- Sakurai feels the connectivity between both games is very important
- Sakurai wants the 3DS version to be a slightly different experience than what we're used to
- he'd like to have players helping one-another
- while Sakurai has headed up areas of Smash Bros. games like game balance and character strength settings, he's hoping to have the staff take that on for these titles
- first plans for the game's development is basic gameplay systems of Smash Bros. X to 3DS and Wii U
- Sakurai warns that if he can't find the right staffers to work with, he'll either take 5 years to make the game with a small team, or end up making just one version of the game

Just speculating:
3DS would have a larger focus on the adventure/event match mode pushing local co-op. Obviously multiplayer mode still present just not the core focus. Fewer characters compared to Brawl or the Wii U version but more unique characters compared to clones present in Melee and Brawl like Toon Link, Ganondorf, Falco, Wolf, Luigi, etc. However, characters will be more customizable like the sticker system in Subspace Emissary and also customizing move sets. Likely will take advantage of streetpass either through stickers, trophies, pokemon, assist trophies, and other means as well. A few exclusive characters, stages, items, pokemon, assist trophies, etc (as well as exclusive past stages) from the Wii U version.

Wii U larger focus on multiplayer/Classic mode pushing online and the tablet. Again still will have an adventure/event mode just not the core focus. More characters and more stages than Brawl.

The two version can exchange data such as uploading your customized character unlocking some of the exclusive characters, stages, items, pokemon assist trophies, stickers, etc in both version. Also can use the 3DS as Wii U controller.

Just my speculation of what I think will be likely to differentiate the two and offer different experiences to encourage players to buy both.

Technically... Strong Bad is also a 1st party Nintendo character.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm thinking of Tag Team Wrestling and that was Data East.

Not only that, but circle pads instead of analog sticks. Ugh.

I sincerely hope we can play this with a GC controller somehow. Whether we can connect it to the Wii Remote, USB, it's made by first party, or third party, I needs my GC controller!

I've tried playing Brawl with the CC Pro... it sucks. Dualshock layout<<<<<<<<GC/360 controller layout.

I guess that Jiro guy might get in if he gets more games...Rolling Western's only a 3DS download, after all, but he certainly has style to him that reminds me of a classic Nintendo character.

(although it worked quite well for MH Tri)

Absolutely needs Jill from Drill Dozer. Especially with the dynamic of being able to get out of the drill tank, or moves that incorporate this in the animation. Also, during her Final Smash, it has to play the glorious 3rd Gear music (1:36), no matter the stage.

I would like to see more of a difference of era Links, and I expect several Links this time, because there's enough uniqueness between them all. I thought it was kind of a joke we had Twilight Princess Link, with absolutely no reference to transforming into Wolf mode, or Midna. That's only half the game, but never mind that, they reskinned his bombs! I wouldn't mind having Hero of Twilight, Skies, and Winds, and maybe of Time just to have a classic-playing Link. I guess it seems like a lot on paper, but if there's one character that deserves it, it's probably Link.

In terms of modes, if they do something like Subspace Emissary again, I hope they make the connection to game environments a lot more obvious. Sakurai seemed to be trolling players with that as it was (Mushroomy Kingdom?), but a lot of the Emissary sections just felt like generic stages retrofitted for a few characters, not really iconic places. Also, they stuck with mostly custom enemies, except a few Mario enemies thrown in. And even though Ganondorf was on the same side as Bowser, they didn't use any iconic Zelda enemies.

I would much rather a branching Adventure Mode, maybe with a couple different routes with different balancing and order depending on certain groups (like Heroes take one path, Villains another, Neutrals another, Oddballs their own route) than something as overproduced as Subspace Emissary again.

Also no gamecube controller support, no buy.

I loved Brawl. Personally I think it's better than Melee in almost every way.

But fuck tripping. Seriously. At least give us a way to turn it off that doesn't involve hacks.

And it would be like the 3rd completely different thing known as Starman in Smash Bros. (Starman from SMB, one from Earthbound, and this dude)

Why would anybody want a fuckton of links or marios or anybody else. That's boring, and a waste of space and time.

There should be one Mario, and two Links only because that has a precedent, (even though I feel it's a shitty precedent.) Mario stays basically the same, except remove fludd and replace it with the two player Luma from Galaxy 2. Link should be based on whatever the current Link is, so Skyward Sword. While the other one is based on his handheld stuff so Windwaker looking Link but with a completely different moveset that incorporates items from all of his handheld games.

Single player mode should be inspired by nintendo games. One stage plays like a 2D mario, another one like old school zelda, another like a fire emblem battle, etc. Shows Nintendo's diverse universes while still making singleplayer unique.

Newcomers. There should be a whole lot more new franchises around this time as playable characters.

Joy Mech Fight
Golden Sun
Punch-Out!
Sin and Punishment
Custom Robo
Startropics
Mystery of Murasame Castle

To name a few.

Pac-man sounds fucking awesome thanks for bringing him up (and his smash will be Tetris blocks falling from the sky! For no darn reason!)
Monster Hunter dude (can switch weapons maybe? if not, Great Sword is good enough)
Bomberman

Pac-Man's FS should be Power Pellet. He eats one and reverts to old school looking Pac-Man, and all the opponents become blue and sad faced (or something like that.)

Azure's hopeful Nintendo newcomer list:

Toad (SMB2)
Daisy (Mario Sports/Land)
Ghirahim (LoZ: SS)
Ridley (Metroid)
Dixie Kong (DKC)
King K. Rool (DKC)
Kamek (Yoshi)
Captain Syrup (Wario Land)
Ashley (Wario Ware)
Zoroark (will probably replace Lucario)
Lip (Nintendo Puzzle Leagues/Tetris Attack!/Panel de Pon)
Medusa (Kid Icarus)
Lyn/Shiida/Hector (Fire Emblem)
Isa/Kachi (Sin & Punishment: Star Successor)
Issac (Golden Sun)
Little Mac (Punch-Out!)
Andy/Sami/Max (Advance Wars)

Wildcard (but please God please!) tier:

Shulk (Xenobla-- HA HA ;__;)
Jill (Drill Dozer)
Mike Jones (StarTropics)
Takamaru (Mystery at Murasame Castle)
Sukapon (Joy Mech Fight)
Sheriff (Arcade - Love this idea so much User 33, this would be R.O.B/G&W tier)

Also, all of Mike's normals need to be him doing yo-yo tricks really fast. I don't want to hear anything about how much he'd play like Ness when his entire gimmick is being an athletic south paw pitcher who loves yo-yos. :lol

As for 3rd party characters:

Megaman
Chrono
Simon Belmont
A Dragon Quest Hero
Travis Touchdown (?)

I'd be happy if any one of the aforementioned from both Nintendo or elsewhere made it in at this point. :lol
