Whoa slow down there buddy!

Honestly, I just mirrored the sentiment of the first poster that mentioned him last page. :P

I just hope things don't get too crazy this time around. :lol

Why would anybody want a fuckton of links or marios or anybody else. That's boring, and a waste of space and time.

"I'm not directly insulting the reply two posts above me but WOW that's a stupid idea!"

Because I want Link to play like Link. Sadly the one I want them to do right, Twilight, would be most likely to be cut this time. But do you want Skyward Sword Link (almost certainly a lock) to play almost exactly like Link in every Smash before because they need to keep Link's playstyle consistent, or would you like them to have the freedom to make the characters focus on what actually makes them unique and interesting?

There's probably going to be a Skyward Link, and Toon Link, and I'd like Skyward Link to have his own SS-themed mechanics and playstyle, rather than just reskin Smash Link again. But people are going to cry if they can't play Link exactly like they played Link before, that's why I'm suggesting at least the three.

Also...Pokemon Trainer. I understand the importance of Red, but does anyone kind of want to see them switch him with the Black and White hero (and heroine, as an alt costume) with the Unova Starters? Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard just...weren't fun to play, neat gimmick aside.

Playable Oshawott with his samurai shell sword would fucking rock.

In return we can bring back Mewtwo so first Gen will rightfully have the most reps.

I really don't think Pokemon Trainer will be removed now that he was added. FireRed Red wasn't even the newest trainer when he was added to Brawl. Anyway, I think his pokemon change gimmick should be changed around. Rather than giving a disadvantage for not changing Pokemon, there should be some advantage for changing Pokemon. That should be enough to make people stick with the character, even if he's more complicated than the others due to the tag team mechanic.

I would like to see a second trainer though... The new Pokemon representation should be a second trainer with the 3 starters from Black&White and a standalone Pokemon they want to advertise.

I'd like a Red with 3 starters from different gens (for example Squirtle/Bayleef/Blaziken) and then a female trainer, White maybe, with 3 others (for example Totodile/Turtwig evo/Emboar).

Just to mix it up a little. But even if they go same-gen for each trainer, I'd still really like to have one male and one female, at the very least.

Imo Red would've been better if he played like Yugi does in Jump Ultimate Stars. Anyone who has played the game knows what I'm talking about. Basically you walk around as the character and summon monsters instantly for all of your attacks. They could've easily gotten away with something like that.

Also give him his original costume.

And call him "Red"

The way he is now is much more true to the Pokemon games--the Pokemon are the trainers' avatars in battle. Being able to physically strike a Pokemon trainer just wouldn't seem right. He'd have his Pokemon do everything.

You can choose five third-party characters. Sonic and Snake are still in.

Hmm? How do you know Sonic and Snake are still in the game?

1) Geno from SMRPG
2) Simon Belmont
3) Megaman
4) Bomberman

Man Smash threads always end up two ways for me. UNENDING HULK+NORSE GOD RAGE, and thinking about a good roster list.

Just chill. I don't want to see you getting ban.

For people who made the list,

I am so sad that no one even mention Takamaru. I recalled that Sakurai said he would consider to add Takamaru if there is new ssb. I forget where I heard about it.

It was either in the Melee or Brawl site (pre dojo) replying some messages sent to him. Anyway, he actually said that he'd include Takamaru if he appeared in a new game. And now he had an entire mode in Samurai Warriors 3, which was released worldwide, so, Takamaru is a possible choice now.

I know it was recently so I assumed that it was on brawl pre-dojo site.

There's so many characters I want that no matter what I'll be disappointed. Still if I finally get Geno and Isaac I'll be damn happy.

Anyone else can't wait to stay up late to learn how to jump?

If it happens again and I have nothing to do in morning then sure. I seriously doubt that I would do it again if it is in 2012-2013.

This announcement really seemed like a quickly thrown together counter to the PS Vita/PS3 crossplay stuff at the Sony conference to me. The fact that Sakurai was kinda vague on how they will interact also makes me worried that they're not confident full cross-platform play will be possible. All I have to say is, make it work, Nintendo. Your precious spot at the top is at stake.

some options for new characters, 1st party:

little mac
dixie kong
kyle hyde (lol)
wart (it could happen)
toad (it's about time)
daisy (the more mario kart/golf/tennis appearances, the greater the chances)
waluigi
professor egad
some wave race/1080 dude

3rd party:

pac man
ryu (capcom's or tecmo's)
mega man
bomberman
bonk (reaching, lol)
travis touchdown
john madden

I wonder if they plan on making each somewhat separate, using each's hardware to its fullest, or if they plan on making nearly the same experiences.

Sakurai says they will be different games.

He thinks the handheld version will be more individualized and play more like Smash 64. The internal name he has been calling it while planning is "Super Smash Bros. 2"

From the sounds of the interview posted a bit back, they'll be separate experiences.

Honestly I don't want it to happens because I am concerned that each might have their own exclusive characters.

Hmm, at long 3DS and Wii U would play so similar to SSB series then I would be fine. Like I said, at long they dont have exclusive characters then I am good with it.

And he said something like customizing characters and then transferring them to the Wii U version

It actually wasn't recent. It was from the website for the first Smash Bros. - so although that could still happen, that comment was made a decade ago, so I don't know if it's anything concrete.

Honestly, I just want some Golden Sun representation. (Preferably Felix, although Issac is the more likely choice)

Aside from maybe Saki (Or any sort of S&P character, really) I can't really think of any other characters I'd actually want.

Serious Question.

Which characters would be more likely to get replace or removed?
I think Lucario's probably the most likely, if only to get replaced with whatever Pokemon they decide to use to represent the 5th gen.

If Ness or Lucas get removed so help me god...

Azure's hopeful Nintendo newcomer list:

Toad (SMB2)
Daisy (Mario Sports/Land)
Ghirahim (LoZ: SS)
Ridley (Metroid)
Dixie Kong (DKC)
King K. Rool (DKC)
Kamek (Yoshi)
Captain Syrup (Wario Land)
Ashley (Wario Ware)
Zoroark (will probably replace Lucario)
Lip (Nintendo Puzzle Leagues/Tetris Attack!/Panel de Pon)
Medusa (Kid Icarus)
Lyn/Shiida/Hector (Fire Emblem)
Isa/Kachi (Sin & Punishment: Star Successor)
Issac (Golden Sun)
Little Mac (Punch-Out!)
Andy/Sami/Max (Advance Wars)

Wildcard (but please God please!) tier:

Shulk (Xenobla-- HA HA ;__;)
Jill (Drill Dozer)
Mike Jones (StarTropics)
Takamaru (Mystery at Murasame Castle)
Sukapon (Joy Mech Fight)
Sheriff (Arcade - Love this idea so much User 33, this would be R.O.B/G&W tier)

As for 3rd party characters:

Megaman
Chrono
Simon Belmont
A Dragon Quest Hero
Travis Touchdown (?)
Just replace Shulk with Masked Man from Mother 3 and Travis Touchdown with Geno from SMRPG and you have my perfect game. <3

Please, no more 3rd party characters. The ones suggested so far are either uninteresting from a fighting standpoint or not important enough to bother with.

We're talking about a series that makes characters out of a plastic peripheral for the NES, an LCD game character who flips pancakes and catches oil droplets, a driver from a racing game, and several characters from flight games who never or rarely leave their ships.

Megaman is obviously the most wanted 3rd party character. Simon Belmont would be awesome too. Those two being NES all stars help their case.

Point taken :P but I'd rather them keep this is as purely Nintendo as possible, was what I meant.

MrCookiepants said:

But they are such a small number and each one of them means so much content-wise. Brawl's roster would seem much, much smaller without Sonic and Snake, versus any other 2 characters.

At least 5 this time. Has to be.

Yeah, I also like the idea of having some classic third-party characters. But outside of Sonic and Snake, I think I'd only want to see characters who had big games on the NES and SNES.

If we're doing dream cross-overs and involving Capcom, why not Strider?

Konami? Simon Belmont for sure, but... Kid Dracula might be cool too... but I'm biased.

So someone mentioned earlier that most new characters should represent new, previously unrepresented series, and I agree with that.

The only new characters from currently represented series I'd like to see are:

Paper Mario - Provided he has a unique moveset, because being a clone of Mario would be goddamn retarded. Folding into a plane to glide, summoning helpers for various moves; he has a lot of potential. And, more importantly, he represents the Mario RPGs, which haven't really previously been represented.

Ridley (Metroid) - Because Metroid is big enough to have two characters, and no, Zero Suit Samus doesn't count. And screw the "he's too big" argument. He can still be big, and I'd rather have a Ridley that's not quite as big as he should be than no Ridley at all.

Black Shadow (F-Zero) - Mainly to take Ganondorf's current moveset, so Ganondorf can get a unique one.

Zoroark, I guess? (Pokemon) - I guess this is the big new Pokemon for the Black and White gen? It seems reasonable to let the latest generation of Pokemon have a representative, though whether he'd replace Lucario is up for question.

Trying to separate my personal desires from who I really think deserves a spot, I can't really think of any beyond these four. Though I wouldn't complain if Dixie Kong and/or K. Rool got in. And I doubt Sakurai will be able to restrain himself from including another Kid Icarus character.

Nintendo has so many other interesting characters who should get a shot. I'm sure some people might complain about them adding in more obscure characters, but you know, learning about new games and characters has been one of the most exciting things about the Smash series for me.

Samurott is my favorite of the Pokemon BW starter final forms, personally, but I think a "Trainer Black" (modeled after the girl character, ideally, since she's so distinctive) should command the following: Tepig, Dewott and Serperior.

Dewott would be badass to play -- he just feels like a Smash Bro, plain and simple. And how cool it'd be be to see him whirling his shell-blades around like a ronin. :)

A low-to-the-ground, four-legged Fire starter like Tepig would also be a blast to play. A good foil to the Grass-type Ivysaur, the other four-legged Pokemon in SSB.

And finally, Serperior would be unique not only as a Grass-type foil to Charizard, but also for the fact he'd be the only Smash Bro with no limbs! He could manipulate objects with his tail, and wriggle rapidly around the stage wrapping up foes, tail-slapping and unleashing leaf flurries. He also has a majestic beauty and regal air that would make him a fresh personality in the roster. :)

One thing is for certain, though: They have to finally add Ridley. Ridley placed high in the fan polls Sakurai ran last time around; this time, with two games at hand, he won't be able to ignore him!

I guess I'll hop on the character wish list:
Toad (Mario Series)
Bowser Jr.(Mario series)- Final Smash all Koopalings appear
Paper Mario
Tingle(Zelda series)- He's been in a fair amount of games and only character to have a spin off from LoZ. Although he's dissapeared in recent years maybe Nintendo is getting rid of him
Toon Zelda- Would prefer other characters like Vaati or Midna but Toon Zelda appears alot and they could do a Tetra/Princess Zelda transformation.
Ridley/Adam Malkovich/Dark Samus(Metroid Series)- Metroid needs another character. if they seriously can't figure out Ridley than Dark Samus and Adam are pretty important characters that should be easy to fit.
Zoroark(Pokemon)- have him replace Lucario
Female Pokemon Trainer- has the current gen pokemon. Every new Smash Bros. has her take the current gen starters.
Meowth(Pokemon)- Probably one of the biggest Pokemon icons next to Pikachu.
Tom Nook(Animal Crossing)- Really should've been in Brawl.
Dixie Kong(DK series)
Medusa(Kid Icarus)
Krystal(Star Fox)
Lyn(Fire Emblem)- Have her replace one of the males
Louie(Pikmin)- He has purple and white pikmin(and whatever other colors are in Pikmin 3).
Little Mac(Punch Out)
Black Shadow(F-Zero)
Mike Jones(Star Tropics)
Starfy(The Legendary Starfy)
Isaac(Golden Sun)
Isa/Saki(S&P)
Balloon Fighters(Balloon Fighters)
Miis(wildcard like G&W and ROB)- Who wouldn't want to beat the shit out of them

3rd parties- Would rather Nintendo not go overboard on these. There has to be some characters left for future titles.
Rayman- Rabbids as an assist trophy. Considering Ubisofts good relationship with Nintendo recently.
Megaman- Capcom and Nintendo have had a good relationship I believe and he's a classic character.
Takamaru- Interesting suggestion and there is some credibility. Also fits nicely with WTF reaction like Snake was.

I'd be shocked if half of these were included. As Sakurai noted just expanding characters wouldn't really improve the game. Also I'm sure Sakurai and Nintendo don't want to go overboard when they will likely have to milk out new characters each game. I think they should focus more on introducing new franchises than expanding on older ones though, imo since a lot have been well represented like Star Fox, Mario, Pokemon and Zelda. Also, I'd like to have some characters fixed. I don't want Ganondorf to be Capt. Falcon clone, Toon Link can have his own moveset, and there is no need for 2 Fox clones.

Bolded are the ones that I think are ones that would make the most sense and absolutely should be in the next one.

Well, actually, no one knows what the results for those polls were (except that Sonic was the most requested character).

Basically, the smash series is derivative of Kirby super star. I wonder if Sakurai will look to Kid Icarus for inspiration. 3D smash, perhaps?

5 Third party wish-list

1. Megaman
2. Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
3. Slime (Dragon Quest)
4. Ryu ( Ninja Gaiden)
5. Tails

It is absurd how excited I am for the dojo and corresponding gaf megathread.

Given Sega's close partnership with Nintendo on Sega's designated only party title franchise "Mario & Sonic Olympics" I'd say we can pretty much bank on them getting Sonic for the next game...and likely more from Sega, as well.

I'm betting Dr. Robotnik is a playable and possibly NiGHTS.

Who knows whether or not anyone else will give them characters for the game, but given the strong Iwata and Ubisoft moments at E3 over Wii U during the roundtable its not unheard of for Nintendo to end up with some Ubisoft stuff. Maybe Rabbids, Prince of Persia or Assassin's Creed characters. Given that the Rabbids already appeared in the Turtles Brawl game I'd say they're pretty interested in making cameos in this type of game.

The Sky is really the limit here and generally anyone showing strong interest in the console could very well show up with characters in the game. Nintendo is all for this sort of things since it shows strong 3rd party connections to fans and draws in these franchise's fans to the system.

Keep your fingers crossed, because lots of good companies are taking notice of this console and that could result in licensed playables in the new Smash.

Most likely Lucario will be booted for someone to help spokesman Pokemon Black/White. Most likely Zoroark (though I'd prefer Bisharp).

Solid Snake is a toss up given that his character went through a lot of...things...in MGS4 with his new look being the least of them.

I'd like to say Toon Link, but he's been so utilized in the handhelds he may just stick around and surprise us.

My bet is that a lot of cast gets reworked since Sakurai went on the record of saying he wouldn't be satisfied simply adding cast to the old game. He wants to make something big and different again.

This probably means more character balancing and possibly some more moveset changes for clone characters.

Last game we saw big changes to Capt. Falcon and Ganondorfs powers and some of falcon's attacks like his down B and toward b worked differently than Ganondorf's. I'm betting on Falco and Wolf getting some bigger changes made to them as cast (if they come back).

Mario will definitely be changed given he is always tailored to advertise his latest platformers which don't involve FLUDD any more. He'll likely have attacks premised off of Mario Galaxy games further changes his gameplay...especially if he gets frost flower abilities.

Link will likely also change somewhat to represent whatever he does differently in Skyward Sword. Last game his boomerang changed so who knows this time around.

I just hope to see some fun new cast come in like Prince Fluff, K.Rool or Dark Samus. The last game saw around 15 different cast choices than Melee so a lot could happen. Top new franchise hopeful is Golden Sun IMO.

Yeah, Zoroark's definitely the most likely new Pokemon character, but I can't help but wonder how it would work. Zoroark's whole gimmick is that it creates illusions to make it appear as someone else. How could they incorporate that into Smash Bros?

The same way Kirby does. He should steal a move...that or appear same color scheme as you and all. It could get pretty tough to pick out who is who in a fight so chaos factor coudl ensue.

If it's just general illusions, maybe one of his moves could make a fake double of himself. It starts running around controlled by the computer, independent of the Zoroark player. Of course, being an illusion, it can't give or take damage, so if it's hit or hits someone, the illusion is shattered and it disappears. Not an offensive move, but could make for some interesting mind games.

Though, as I'm not familiar with the character, I'm not sure if this would fit. But now that I've typed it, I think it's too cool a concept to not implement into some character at some point.

The difference is that Lucario is still quite popular even today, so I doubt they'll remove him.
