Crysis 2 PC Gamer Details

So if there is an urban jungle/whatever else

How the hell are they going to make it follow on from the ending of the first game...

even a new suit makes it impossible.

"Oh no! The aliens got off the island and are attacking the city!"

Done.

Or: "Oh no! The was another alien mothership near a city!"

Bam. That easy. I think they even hinted at the second possibility in an interview.

  • Make the attachement feature actually practical.
  • Make levels far more open.
  • More enemy variety PLEASE.

Crysis was overrated, especially considering the hyped features. Hopefully Crysis 2 is better.

Well, I can agree with your bullet points there, but the bolded is some bullshit. If anything, Crysis is underrated - people think it is all about the graphics but the gameplay is far ahead of other shooters. The Assault and Onslaught levels of Crysis is the best FPS action in any game ever. Ever.

I'm bummed about this being a console release... Crytek is great. I can't count how many hours I spent playing Far Cry, and I've played through Crysis and Warhead a few times each.

The strength of these was that they utilized the PC's hardware. Same deal with STALKER, another favorite series of mine. When they try to cram these games onto limited hardware, it always seems to compromise a fundamental open-ended aspect of play.

Even though Far Cry 2 was a totally different developer, it exemplifies what I mean. It was somewhat open ended, but had the soul stripped out of it with the goofy, repetitive missions, back-and-forth driving, instantly respawning checkpoints and trophy type diamond hunting.

My only hope is that the PC team for Crysis 2 just takes the PC version and runs with it, taking advantage of PC hardware.

I clocked Crysis on an Athlon XP 2100+. I didn't play it for the graphics and I had a blast playing it. Like DennnisK4 said, Crysis is underrated.

Even though I have a mightier PC, I too will be buying the console version.

My worst fear for Crysis 2 is that they will make the levels smaller due to console limitations, and it looks like it's true. If they made the levels the same size as they have been for past Crysis games then they would have to drop the graphic fidelity for the consoles so much lower that it would hurt sales.

This sucks. The best thing about a Crysis game is the width of the levels and the ability to use that level size to approach combat from many different angles and now it looks like that is gone so they can get the game to work on consoles and still look good.

The Assault and Onslaught levels were the best levels in the whole fucking game by a good clean country mile. They were exactly how Crysis should have played as a whole; huge open levels with tons of stuff going on. There's more replayability and variety in both those levels than the rest of the game combined.

Crytek still have much to do in my eyes to meet the overall game quality of other companies. And, before anybody asks, yes I played it maxed out and no I dont care.

I can't say I mind Crysis 2 being a little more "focused". The reason it's being done sucks but c'mon, Warhead wasn't as open as Crysis was but it was still the better game :D

I've been sick of old school railshooters for ages and Far Cry and Crysis, with their more open gameplay style, were awesome breaks from the norm.

Warhead at least broke up the environments and had some more individual scenarios (eg:
the frozen ocean
), even with its greater linerity.

In Crysis 2 they need to invent a plot device that makes all the aliens go back home in the first five minutes, so that the rest of the game can be about sneaking upto merc bases in open environments.

Crysis went downhill as soon as the aliens showed up. They are no fun to shoot or outwit. They just fly around your head and annoy you, that's all. It's like going duck hunting. At least the mercs were fun to kill and play with.

i didnt really like crysis at all, I think I got up to the part where a tank attacks but I just didnt like it, the enemies seemed to take a ton of rounds...

Day one for me.

Hope they put some kind of map editor on the PS3 version.

If you have the silencer equipped and you are not getting headshots it will take a ton of rounds to kill them.

Don't know if it has been posted because you can't search for some reason, but yeah, New York.

....

What? Why the hell is it in New York? I want to fucking bring that bloody mountain down. Im guessing thats ~halfway through and then new aliens come and invade. We'll see how it plays out, but I dont play Crysis for its urban environments. There damn well better be some skyscraper jumping with strength mode, because otherwise I want nothing to do with a big ass metropolis.

EDIT: Oh shit, what if Crysis 2 is another side plot with other members of the Crysis Force and we dont go back to the island until number 3, when these troops link up? Like Warhead, but on the other side of the planet. I want to know what the fuck happened to Prophet (and Nomad when he goes back for him)

49 reasons to buy a PSP Go? That must be some weak ass article.

As for Crysis 2, I'm not sure what I think about the urban move, should have guest it from the engine videos they've shown. But I trust them.

So that city park is Central Park.

Well, that makes a lot of sense actually, since now they can transition between the two environment types pretty easily.

Judging by the cover it's taking a new direction:

A guy at work called my attention to "new direction" always sounding like "nude erection"... I just can't un-hear it now. It's destroying my life. Have you ever noticed how much people say that? Especially around election time.

But yeah, I'm open to this city idea. I think it could be amazing. Crysis and Far Cry / 2 have fulfilled my desire to see proper jungles in a game for a few years.

Good news I guess. I like urban enviroments. But really, why not a diversity of settings?

Hopefully some of the game will take place elsewhere. The Northern Forest-type enviroment they showed in the CryEngine 3 demo looked fantastic to me.

If they keep an "open" urban setting it can be great, but keep the limited corridors to a minimum thanks. And no fucking sewer levels!

You will be going down into the subway system for definite at some point. I am interested to see what crytek can do for a real life urban environment.

Hopefully they aren't going to go all cautious on us now. I wanna hear of single digit framerates on consoles, with tearing, and dips into no digits - quad cores with 5870's struggling to get stable framerates at 720p when they turn on the direct X 11 ultra high option.

Damn. I was hoping for a different kind of jungle, but not THAT different.
Well, hope for the best. Crytek knows its shit.

Sweet! Now to hope that they inject more playable spaces and versatility into a city than other games.
It would be nice to have a proper urban environment, where 99% of buildings aren't just solid blocks but are actually structures you can enter (and blow up). If you can procedurally generate a tree you should be able to procedurally generate a building interior.

On the one hand, I'm excited that I'll be able to play a Crysis game on my PS3. But on the other hand, one of the reasons I was so excited was to roam around exotic jungles taking enemies out.

Hope they pull off the urban environment part well, but I'm hoping to see some type of jungle setting. They could probably pull off some stuff in Central Park. I really wanted to play through some jungles though.

Despite some problems, I enjoyed playing through Far Cry 2. The jungle environments are what really attracted me to the game. I'm still looking forward to Crysis 2, I hope it makes it out this year.

dude have you seen the pics? it looks gorgeous from what I see.

That isn't what is being discussed. It more like "freedom" and "big maps" and stuff that made the first one so special.

Yeah, there is tons of evidence...

Indeed there is. The fact that the original Crysis used such an absurd amount of RAM even whilst including optimisations like texture streaming. The fact the original was never ported to consoles because it just wouldn't not work within the RAM constraints. The fact that in all the CE3 tech demos, scenes with large vistas have been hacked down to below "low" settings in terms of draw distance/popin is evidence enough the consoles can't handle them. Its then no surprise that the environment chosen is one where they won't have to have wide gaping vistas all over the place.

Of course it does (though who knows what exactly those images are representative of) but they don't represent what compromises in terms of scope and gameplay had to have been made.

The tech demos look good on the consoles, but just fundamentally the game design would need to be completely redone for the consoles, Crysis is way too fast for stick control. That's not to say it'll be any worse thanks to the console versions, but it will be different.

Halflife 2, Mass Effect and Crysis...the three HD-games that showed the difference to previous gen systems.

Im super excited for Crysis 2. Crysis was so much better than what people talked it to, often making it sound as if it was just a graphics demo. Instead, it´s truly new gameplay, open, non-linear gameplay without turning into a boring mess.

But, im more excited for the Jurassic Park-mod, that unfortunately got pushed back to 2012 :(
