CULDCEPT Lttap:

Since it is summer and I have completed my big test, I have put it upon myself to play the many old games that I have missed in the past. This game in particular is like crack. Combining Magic with Monopoly is just genius.

There is a story to the game but that doesn't matter. What matters is that this game is ridiculously addictive, and I'm glad I didn't play it when I was studying. I believe there is also a multi-player option as well...and all this game has done is hyped me up for the 360 version with achievements. Are there any other gaffers who enjoy this game? It doesn't seem like its ever really talked about.

I have it and really liked it, but never finished it. The battle system is extremely convoluted and makes littles sense which often left me angry that my cards were defeated for no apparent reason. I would make every effort to properly pick the right cards, but it never seemed to matter. Also the CPU had the terrible nack of always landing on the best spots while you always landed on the worst spots on the board.

With a simpler, easier to understand system and more cards it would have been a lot better.

I love Culdcept. I just spent my vacation from work replaying it and collecting a bunch of cards. I now have all creature cards for Red, Blue, and Yellow; still missing several Greens. The computer cheats like a dirty bastard, however, and for my sanity I cannot play without using a Kelpie and/or Old Willow.

I'm definitely looking forward to Saga on the 360. I just hope they toned down the computer's lucky rolls.

Culdcept was fun, but I wish there had been more story battles.

It is not like the story was particularly good or anything. It just seemed like you were suddenly thrust into the last few battles without having much of a chance to collect many high level cards. So basically you had to fight the same battles over and over in order to build up your deck. Unless you played against yourself in the arena mode (which I never thought was fun).

Hopefully Culdcept Saga will have a more robust and better translated story mode.

I'm a little puzzled by this one...

The battle system is very easy to understand. As a matter of fact, they've made it as fun and accessible as Magic the Gathering used to be.

The system that determines who wins in a fight (like water and Fire in pokemon), is plain dumb and not easy to understand - Especially when its not consistent and you lose when according to the system (or whatever you want to call it) you should win.

Late to the ass party?

In any case, the battle system is as simple and uncomplicated as you could hope for, and if you can't understand it then, sorry, you're one of those morons we hear so much about. There are a few special abilities which can be hard to understand due to the poor translation, but they don't factor into 95% of fights.

No, it doesn't. Perhaps you need to take a better look at the cards and conditions on the board? Take a look at what your opponent casts vs. what you cast.

Now, if you were making an argument against the fairness of dice rolls in some instances, you might have a point.

The battle system? No.

It's Magic the Gathering, basically.

I'm really not sure what you're saying.

There is an attacker and a defender. Attacker always has first priority (*unless defender has a special ability where it has first priority, but these are rare cases and are stated on those specific cards) and deals damage to the defender. If the defender lives through the attack, it then deals its damage to the attacker. Whoever dies is the loser, and the winner has possession of that square. If they both live, then the defender keeps possession of the square, and the attacker keeps possession of his card.

It's pretty cut and dry.

It is if it always worked that way, but it doesn't. Maybe the cpu was cheating, I don't know, but I got tired of getting my ass kicked by the cpu when according to every law in the manual I should have won.

But whatever.

I played the new Culdcept Saga at our Namco appt. for like 30+ minutes at E3. I am new to the series, and I have to say it's addictive as your favorite controlled substance. The designer also confided to me that I am indeed the luckiest person he has ever seen. He told me maybe I should have demoed the game instead of him. :lol

But yeah, looks like a great game... very long, too. I think he said over 30 different boards, and the games last a long time even on the first board (maybe like 45 minutes to an hour).

I beat the game and collected just about every medal. I would have noticed if there was something funny going on with the ruleset vs. what was happening.

It's pretty easy to understand IMO. To be fair, the translation for the PS2 version was awful and may have hindered things a bit but I still haven't heard anyone complain about the game being unfair. Sounds like user error to me. :)

Ive been playing this game quite a bit and while I love the heck out of it...its pretty tough suprisingly, but I can't stop playing.

I just wanted to state that this game is crack. I really think I'm addicted as I want to play some other games but this keeps calling at me. Can anyone tell me how many cards are in this game and how many are in the soon to be released 360 version?
