Dance Central |OT| Kinect's Killer App?

I'd like an option for controller navigation please.

...assuming it isn't already in there. DC is pretty good with motion navigation but I'd still rather just use a controller so you can have more sorting options.

You can navigate the menus in Dance Central using a controller

Kotaku just reported that Microsoft is sending out the a survey with questions about possible features in Dance Central 2. None of these are confirmed, but at least they're being considered. Would be nice to see some of this stuff in the game:

Custom Dances
Custom dance crafting - Lets you choose individual dance moves and string them together into custom choreographed sequences.

Break-it Down Improvements
Individual move practice - Lets you practice a single dance move from any routine that's causing you difficulty without having to practice the entire song.
Repeat recap sequences - Lets you replay recap sequences in Break It Down. That is, you can practice specific dance sequences repeatedly. You would still have to practice the entire song.
Individual recap sequences - Lets you practice specific dance sequences from any routine without having to practice the entire song.
Improved feedback - The game will provide more specific feedback on what EXACTLY the player is not doing correctly. This may include arrows, text, auditory instructions or other feedback so players know how to correct their dancing.
Performance comparison - Lets you see a side-by-side video playback of your performance and the dance character's performance so you can see how your performance of the dance moves differed from the dance character's performance.

Difficulty Settings
Easy song inclusion - Includes more songs that people new to Dance Central can play successfully.
Loose filters mode - Lets people flawlessly perform a move even if they are not perfectly accurate. This mode would be good for new players or at a party where greater participation is more important than mastering the moves.

Lyrics
On-screen lyrics - Lets you see the song lyrics on the TV while you're dancing.
Sing along - Lets people who are not dancing sing along to songs and score points for the person dancing.

On-line Store
Dance Central Store - Lets you preview and purchase additional content including new songs, news dance moves, character outfits and other items from the Dance Central game.

Voice Interaction
Voice control - Lets you use the voice commands to navigate menus such as selecting songs, selecting song difficulty, etc. Voice control will be implemented in addition to current gesture controls.

Dancer Character Customization
Build your own dancer - Lets you build your own character by choosing body shapes and features. This is similar to creating your avatar.
Customize your dancer - Lets you customize characters currently in the game by changing items such as clothing, jewelry, etc.

Importing Songs
Song merging - Lets you easily import the songs from one version of Dance Central into another, so you don't have to switch between two discs.

Freestyle
Stop motion freestyle - Lets you see your freestyle played back in a series of photographs. This is how Dance Central currently shows freestyles.
Video freestyle - Lets you see your freestyle played back as a standard continuous video clip.
Non-photographic freestyle - Lets you see your freestyle played back as a silhouette or an other abstract version of yourself.
Copy-me freestyle - Lets you play a mini-game during the freestyle such as copying specific dance moves (like H-O-R-S-E for dancers)
Graphical freestyle - Lets you see your freestyle played back as abstract graphics or art work instead of any player representation.
No freestyle - Lets you continue dancing to choreographed dance moves without having to come up with your own dance moves.

Photo Sharing

Exporting pictures - Lets you export pictures taken during gameplay to your PC.
Exporting videos - Lets you export videos taken during gameplay to your PC.
Social Network picture sharing - Lets you export pictures taken during gameplay directly to social media networks such as Facebook.

Community

Social network score sharing - Lets you post/share Dance Central scores through social media networks such as Facebook. You would also have the option to post an in-game photo of you or your character from when you earned that score.
In-game challenges - Lets you challenge your friends or the game can issue specific challenges to you. For example, challenge a friend for the highest score on a particular song or difficulty found within the game.
Downloadable content (DLC) challenges - Lets you challenge your friends or the game can issue specific challenges to you on content only available for purchase on-line.

Game Modes
Campaign mode - Follow a guided progression of dance challenges while working through the song list. Along the way you would earn rewards and unlock additional content (such as new characters, outfits, cinematics or songs)
Fitness mode - Lets you create customized workout playlists for continuous dancing (that is, without a break between songs). A calorie counter will also calculate calories burned within a song, playlist and across workouts.
Party mode - Lets you create customized party playlists for continuous music and dancing. This will include time between songs to allow players to switch. Additionally, achievements would not be scored during party mode.

Multiplayer
2 player - Lets you play with a friend side by side simultaneously. You play together in a co-op game or against each other in a head to head dance battle.
2 player over Xbox Live Avatar - Lets you play online with a friend through Xbox Live. You and your friend will be able to see each other's Avatars performing the dance moves.
2 player over Xbox Live Silhouettes - Lets you play online with a friend through Xbox Live. You and your friend will be able to see silhouettes of each other performing the dance moves.
Background dancing - Lets friends play behind the primary players as backup dancers. The performance of the backup dancers will help increase the number of points scored.

All this sounds incredible. I hope everything makes it in.

Anyone else downloaded any of the DLC?

I downloaded Le Freak because I adore Disco, but one of the moves flat out doesn't get picked up by the game.

Le Freak is an easy song too, and the move is basic as fuck, but no matter what angle I tried, no matter how close or far away, it wouldn't pick me up.

Apparently there's new DLC coming soon-ish. The following songs are mentioned in the March edition of the Xbox Newsletter:
Keri Hilson - "Turnin Me On"
Gwen Stefani - "Hollaback Girl"
Paula Abdul - "Straight Up"
Fatboy Slim - " Weapon of Choice"

Will totally get Straight Up and Hollaback Girl.

Obligatory

Will only get Weapon of Choice if dance moves are from the video.
Will still get regardless

I posted this in the PAX thread, but I was playing DC in the Microsoft booth at PAX East and they had these songs on their hard drive, a lot of people played Straight Up, which is a medium tier song. Weapon of Choice is for beginners... Turnin me on was hard. I don't remember where Hollaback Girl was. I asked one of the DLC devs when it was coming out and she wasn't sure. I would've tried the new songs, but I didn't want to try a song that I didn't know in front of other people, and I was too busy KILLING GRAND FINALE ON HARD in front of them. 5 stars. :-D.

the new tracks are great, and the dance moves are pretty new and different from past ones so they are worth downloading.

Right now Im ranked #3 for the easy song (weapon of Choice) and #2 for the other 3 which are much harder. There is this Graves person at #1 with a super high score

is weapon of choice the original version (with the singer/voices)? they used a different version in the dlc trailer (without any voices).

No its the same version, its just that at the very start of the song there is no singing.

just bought and tried weapon of choice. the song is awesome but its the most boring song to dance to, even on hard (got 5 stars on my first try and i am not a good dance central player).
the clapping is really annoying.

so much potential wasted.

hope this helps..

Weapon of Choice - (D-0) easy 2 step moves no problem getting 100%. Under Poker Face in lineup but even easier than that one

Straight Up - (D-4) Listed between Poison and Teach me how to Jerk. some of the moves are pretty intricate and it takes a bit longer to nail those... Didnt in the time I put into it.

Holla Back Girl - (D-5) Listed Between Bust a Move and Days go By (or Control if you have that) some sharp, marching band like moves. Pretty quick too, but not too hard to learn.

Turning me On - (D-6) Listed between Drop it like it's Hot and Don't Sweat the Technique. Its about as hard as just dance..

Hey guys I really want to pickup a Kinnect + Dance Central for my wife. She loves Just Dance 2, she used to be a drill teamer in HS and I think this is bringing back lots of fun for her. She loves the Sweat Mode in JD2, is there something like that here? And is this game just as good, if not better for working out than Just Dance 2?

Anyways, anyone recommend a price to pick this game up...? Preferably like to see if there's a bundle for these two.

thanks

Awlright! Justice! Don't know how much fun it'll be to play, but more Justice equals more gooder. Now we just need to get them in Rock Band.

I think there was a deal for just Kinect and Dance Central at Target last week, not sure if its still going on. I would say that this is almost equal to Just Dance 2 in terms of workout, the only thing that hurts it is that after each song, you have to select the next one, there's no playlist function or anything. There is "workout mode" which will keep track of your calorie loss though. I totally think this is more fun than Just Dance 2 though.

So I kind of got my Dance Central copy cheap. Went to the store and I think they want about $4ish/new DLC. Kind of expensive? or not.

Which should I get/avoid?

Control is pretty good, probably the closest we're gonna get to dancing like Micheal Jackson. And you can always check the out the DLC on youtube and see if it looks fun.

Hmm, console just crashed after I played DC/down. I might wait a while before I get DLC.

still, man, I suck at feet moves. Anytime there's a kicking move/leg up, I suck. Well, I suck. Still lovely game. Killer app.

Anyone knows why they only release like 3 songs a month as DLC? What's stopping them? Isn't this the biggest (and most successful) Kinect game?

they have to bring dancers in, do the motion-capture of the new moves and put it all together.

Just a heads up that MS is running a sale on all the DLC for this game this week.

I think each song individually is 33% off, each of the main packs are 33% off, and the 14 song mega pack is 50% off.

Cool, gonna grab some more DLC, especially knowing all songs will work in DC2!

I just got the Kinect a couple of weeks ago and grabbed this game, so it's still fresh and I didn't really need DLC yet. However, knowing Harmonix's good track record with DLC from the Rock Band franchise I knew it would be supported in the future and bought it. Good to know it's already been confirmed.

Well, we got a deal of the week. Got the marathon pack since the only song i had bought was "I got a feeling".

Damn was hoping for this, but the song I wanted wasn't included (D.A.N.C.E.). I would get Weapon of Choice but they really made it way too easy.

I love this game but the DLC releases have been pretty weak. I'll buy the sequel without a second thought.

They could be (hopefully) holding things back for the sequel. It's supposed to come out this fall, right?
