Yah, but as long as they are providing a non-steam client in the future. Have they had news about that? Starbound alpha is steam, but they said they will have a non-steam version.
I have a software problems with Steam. I had to reinstall it twice in the past month so I could play Starbound. I dunno why, but it just stops working suddenly, so I want a non-Steam version if possible. And I don't want to buy from Steam in case my purchase gets me stuck on a DRM version.
Has anyone actually figured out if these aren't completely useless yet? Whatever they do, it doesn't seem to be waking up unconscious people.

So, after several days of playing DayZ, here's a few interesting tidbits of my journey so far...
Out of my 6 deaths that I've had so far, 3 have been at the hands of other gaffers, one has been at the hands of the friend of a gaffer, and two have been to encounters that have occurred because of gaf. So it's fair to say that just like the mod, gaffers are far more dangerous than anything else in DayZ.
I have killed a fellow gaffer. Sorry AJ. Guns pointed in my direction make me paranoid, especially when I get told that it's my move. I fully expect this one to come back on me eventually lol.
I missed the gaf meltdown in vybor by a matter of minutes it sounds like. I guess that's fortunate for me.
I have beaten an armed man with my fists and stolen his M4. I assumed his weapon was empty, but he had a full cartridge.
I have somehow been projected hundreds of feet into the air and have had my computer crash, fallen through ships, broken my legs falling off ladders, jumped off of firehouses and survived, ran underwater, had my legs broken by a tree, and ate a shit ton of rotten bananas just to see what would happen.
This shit is some of the best janky ass mess that I've played in a while.

Yeah, was recently added. In my experience knives seem to spill the least, but if you can't find a can opener then it's better than nothing.

Where do I find weapons like hunting shotguns and rifles? Cause I've never seen one, only found ammo for them.

Cool! This is a nice way to escort new members of groups to their secret base, keep them in a building so they can't see whats outside and just bombard them with questions until you deem him/her safe to trust.
So I found out why I turn into a ghost: Doing backpackception!
Backpackception is where you take a backpack, put that in another backpack, put that one in the next backpack, and so on forever. Yes, this does work.
However it screws up your character, and to fix it, you have to log in, take out one backpack and drop it, log out, and repeat until you are down to the backpack you want to keep.
It doesn't look like it takes when you do it, but it does if you only do one "move" per login.

Iv been doing backpackception since day 1 as well and Iv never ran into the "ghost" bug. I think youre cursed m8.
I really wish Rocket would post a heat map like in the mod. I wanna see how people are moving around the map because as it stands now, I rarely see anyone off the coast.

Gaf, any recommendations for a mic for PC? I don't need some super expensive studio quality thing just something to communicate with people in game/mumble
I use cheap mono USB headsets so I can set it as the communication device and still have sound coming through my speakers. It works out like Xbox live basically. Voice chat only through headset.

Thanks, it was already too late for that. Not a huge issue, but finding loot was proving difficult for me and finally having my guy good to go was nice. Oh well, that's DayZ for you!
Seems more likely that the non-whitelisted servers may be the issue. With there was an indication of what's what in that regard.

This was my character that I terrorised elektro with, chasing people down with the axe. I called him The Doctor. He was sniped in Balota as I was looking for a scope for my mosin.
This is my new guy, much more decked out, he has an m4 with suppressor and an acog. So thanks to whoever sniped The Doctor!

Check out the balota airstrip if you're on the coast, you can get military gear there. Also check the fire stations (buildings with big red doors and a tower you can go up) and the 3rd floor of the schools for guns. You can also find mosins in sheds. Or if you're lucky enough to spawn in novy sobor you can run north west to the north west airfield which is how I got all that military stuff.
It's mostly knowing where the good loot is, while simultaneously avoiding the other people who also know where the good loot is.
This is Day-Z boiled down to one sentence
Yeah, i want to know more about performance after last patch.

Well crap, maybe I should wait to buy this then until I can upgrade from my Phenom II x4 965 and 6870. I didn't have a problem running the mod though, I never bothered to check the framerate. It didn't stutter but I doubt I was anywhere near 60.
Yesterday I accidentally drunk disinfectant and slowly got sick. I got sick and become unconcious, then I died. I didn't respawn and I quit the game for the night.
I log on this morning and I'm back alive, but I'm still insanely sick (SUPER blurred screen) but I CAN NOT DIE. I had my friends beat me down with shovels and I'm bleeding everything, I am red sickness/thirst/hunger/bleeding, but I won't go unconcious, and cannot respawn.
Guess I'm done with the game until a character wipe

That's a bugged spawn.
At 1680*1050 running a mix between high and normal. Disabled motion blur because I hate it, and post processing. I'm getting between 30-40 FPS except if I'm in a large city like cherno. Then it's mid 20s or so. Except for my video card, I haven't upgraded in quite a while.

The only settings I've found that have any impact on my fps are the object and terrain settings, I play with both on low now. Sometimes put objects on very low when in a big city.
I killed my first 2 players today and I actually feel bad about it, haha.
I was laying down in a forest, looking through my inventory, when I heard 2 players talking over direct chat. They seemed to be strangers but they had met up and they were talking about how fun dayz is.
As they passed me and went down the road I shot one of them with my rifle. I thought I had killed him as he fell down onto the floor but I had in fact broken his legs.
They didn't know where the shot had come from and were panicking trying to 'fix' the injured player. I then shot the 'healthy' player in the legs and he fell down too. I left them for a while and then I showed myself and walked over to them.
They were begging me to help them and not kill them. I shot them both.
Poor guys. Memorable first kills. Hopefully they'll get their revenge one day lol
