Sorry again for the basic question but what exactly do they mean with guided Nightfall/Raids?

I saw ethomaz mention it's matchmaking to play with randoms but is it like you can only solo queue? Can you group up as 2 and the matchmaking gets you 4 other players or matches you with a group that needs 2 more players or something?
