Detroit Become Human - E3 2016 Trailer

Wouw those faces...ughh...After Uncharted 4, facial animations look so cheap in this game. oh and voice acting...
I think it looks pretty damn good considering the amounts of facial animations in this game will be huge compared to Uncharted 4 where only cutscenes receive special treatment. Quantic Dream just has no way to hand animate as much as ND does considering the differences in volume. So for what it is I think it looks pretty good and less creepy than Until Dawn, which is its direct competition.

Looks really interesting. I hope the choices you make, make sense in the outcome.

To expand, I hope that checking an egg in the fridge isn't the key to whether or not a character in the story dies. I want to see more stuff like "find an ice pick, conceal it as a weapon, get a chance to use it." or "find a picture of a guy's wife, find an obituary, get the option to get inside the guy's head about his dead wife".

Very few games have done this well in multiple outcome situations, and usually have a bizarre flag to make a quest move in a particular direction.

Does Detroit take place in the same universe that the New York in Friends does?

It's future Detroit which got a whole lot better after the new Detroit Red Wings arena started the grand change.

OK that's just me hoping that the city will rise from where it's at right now.

I would have preferred just the one protagonist honestly. Still a day 1 buy, QD is up there with ND in terms of knowing anything they make will be a great experience.

I liked Beyond Two Souls probably more than 99.99999% of GAF so this intrigues me. Seems more like Heavy Rain than Two Souls which would be a bit of a bummer but we'll see.

The David Cage hate fetish that this website has is kinda sad.

They had one of the best gameplay trailers at this E3. It flowed so smoothly and explained a lot and also the way they managed to seamlessly go through different paths to complete that section was top tier. Plus they started off by killing the child which was a bold move and was incredibly powerful with the music choice they chose.

Whoever was in charge for making that trailer was bloody brilliant in the way it was executed.

They deserve a hell of a lot more respect than what they get on here.

Any idea on a timeframe that can be expected for release?

This is a HUGE day one buy for me, and I really hope it releases soon.

The ripped synthetic flesh and clothing flying off looks cool.

A bit of transition, no pop in the damage appearing on the body would be good. I think it's slow-mo enough you should see the bullet flying through too.

The trailer was indeed awesome. I have watched it a couple of times now. It wasn't overly long, but it showed a wide breath of outcomes and choices and got me excited for how other scenarios might play out

Thought this trailer looked awesome during the show last night, I never played Heavy Rain or Beyond: Two Souls & this makes me want to right now.

This game is shaping up to be something I'm ready to drop $60 on. This quality is what I'm looking for in a current gen title. Damn this trailer just gets me more hyped for neo and whatever Sony brings out next.

This is Gaf for you.

Yeah you are right about the amount of animation they gonna have. But then don't they use advanced facial motion captures?
The thing that looks off to me is their faces, something of with modelling. The characters in Uncharted 4 were not ultra realistic. They were stylized even tho it was very subtle and even as still images they looked more natural.

Ninja Theory makes really awesome faces too not just animation, the modelling the texture.

I look at this the same way I look at a "B" movie. I'm not expecting high quality dialogue or a particularly well written story but I am expecting to be entertained. And Heavy Rain, despite its flaws, was entertaining to me.

This reminds me of Heavy Rain in some respects so I will likely give it a try.

Never been into QD's games but this one got my attention as it reminds me of LA Noire. Corny trailer but it looks like it could be good.

Seems like we might be getting back to the detective feeling of Heavy Rain, which is good, considering I enjoyed HR way more than Beyond.

This is on my radar for sure. QD always offers up some unique moments (Page's homeless scene from BTS comes to mind/choices (Ethan's orrrragmi trials) in their games.

Nobody can say a word about the "uncanny valley" effect, they are robots afterall, way to escape those accusations Cage, but yes, the number of choices and potential outcomes was mindboggling. I'm really looking forward to this one. It also looks like you will play the stories of many of these robots. "THIS IS MY STORY". I think that's a very neat approach to the type of story he wants to tell here.

Has David Cage gone to film school or taken a writer's course? Is anyone helping him write this? Guessing no from past graphic adventures/interactive stories he's created. Is he as pretentious as I think he is?

This honestly looks like Sony took a rejected movie idea and turned it into a game.

So no different from QD's past stories?

You're cute.

For someone so intent upon originality, your comment is as cliché, color-by-numbers, and threadbare as can be.

I was impressed. It's just that going by the writing of past games I'm expecting the rest of it to be more Chappie than Binary Domain.

Crowd in the theater in ATL came around on this one by the end. Legit felt bad for the droid when he got sniped. Think this game is gonna be dope.

I've liked what I have seen of this so far. I came in a little skeptical at the beginning as Beyond didn't turn out to be for me in the end. But this looks like a story I would find much more interesting. I have faith in the Cage! And I appreciate him, trying different angles for AAA developed games.

You know that the answer has been in this thread already , right ?
There are multiple writters this time.

What was pretentious in this trailer really ? Is this a contest for the most "out of bounds" comment ?

Man that ending kinda ruined it when he looked at the camera and went "my name is Connor and this is our story"

I'm sure the next trailer showing the next character will state their name and the same end quote just like the first two with Kara and this guy. It's the tag line for marketing.

Maybe a stupid thought process by me, but maybe the phrase "My name is xxxxx and this is our story" is not a wink to the game player in the sense of "hey you watching this trailer. You're gonna be controlling the story" but instead is the cyborgs telling the world that this is the story of the cyborgs. That is the "our story" part.

Eh, no. It's probably the former "hey gamer" intent.

Thanks but where did I say anything about originality? Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls were not well written or directed and every thing I've ever seen from Cage makes him come off as someone who thinks he's way more talented than he actually is.

But I get it, you love his stories.

I didn't say the trailer was pretentious. If it isn't just Cage writing and directing then it has a shot at being a lot better over all than HR and BTS.

You think the story will play off the whole Three Laws of Robotics? Especially the last rule where the "robot must protect its own existence?" A lot of Sci-fi movies play off of that last rule to tell the story of how the android thinks for itself.

I really like both trailers. It does have that LA: Noire feel which I like. I"ll wait for reviews before pulling the trigger.

from my point of view, all that kind of games can evolve into is something less

the initial sparking thought that videogame needs to be more like movies instead of their own thing sounds incredibly wrong in my head

Comic books are similar to books but can do more, as movies are similar comic books but cand do more, as video games are similar to movies but can do more.

There is nothing inferior in a game using things that movies already do good as there is nothing inherently bad in a movie looking like a comic book in some ways.

There is no need for inferiority complex regarding videogames, it can be similar to a movie or a toy, neither is less of a video game, both are interactive forms of entertainment, wich is what videogames are, and not just games. Just as film can be series, movies or music videos or comic can be strips or graphic novels or what not.
There is not one right focus for video games really.

I just hope it leans more towards Heavy Rain and less towards Beyond. HR was incredible when it came out (by far best facial animations in the industry). Beyond's story was so convoluted and poorly told that my friend and I just got bored and finished for the sake of it. We plowed through HR in one night + morning. It was that cool.
