Ok good. Debra is starting to question things. I'm glad. I really don't want to see her just so quick to believe him. Oh and wow. Dexter with a getaway pack. I never would peg him as the type to run.

Oh damn I really do see him having to put it to use the way Debra is on her game.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't care what anyone says I've loved this show every season and this episode started this season off great. Sure it started a bit slow but it picked up well and without a doubt ended great.

Pretty much what everyone thought would happen. I'll still watch this whole season and whatever else follows

Aside from the
random killing of Anderson,
it was pretty much what I hoped they would do (and what they should have done a year or two ago). Now that they finally got over the hump that has held the show back for so long, the question is what they will do next. I really hope it isn't somehow related to those Russian mobster guys, but it's the only conclusion I can reach based on the fact that they actually bothered to cut to the big mob boss guy. Just doesn't seem... right, so maybe they'll have the good sense not to do it.

They really needed to waste less time on Anderson and more time on Louis and whatever his connection/beef with Dexter is. A strong antagonist who is actually connected to Dexter in a meaningful way has really been the missing link from the last two seasons, but I'm not sure if he's going to be the one to provide it, or if it's going to be a pseudo-rehash of season 2's manhunt for the BHB.

On the whole, it's off to a good start just by virtue of
not dicking us around with Deb's finding out.
Cautiously optimistic, I guess.

One thing that bothered me:
He's already debating running because he doesn't know what Deb's going to do, and suddenly all his credit cards are declined and it doesn't seem to phase him at all.

It bothered me that he used them at all when he was in paranoia mode. Good way to get yourself found by the police.

Thought it was a pretty good episode. The ending of this episode was way better than the finale's ending. Though there was a lot of stupid moments in the episode.

"My sister is doing nothing but questioning me about this murder she just caught me doing, let's run off and create more suspicion and kill someone else."

Yeah, wondered that too. I don't see how that can just be forgotten or brushed off.

Season previews shouldn't exist. I'm used to watching the episodes on DVDs without previews as I just got introduced to Dexter this summer. Now I already know how Debra's going to react to finding out that Dexter's a serial killer. That sucks.

Outstanding episode though. Looking forward to the season.

I can't believe he didn't think to throw away his slides, especially when he found out his sister was asking questions about Brian.

Someone needs to create a spoofed "This Season on Dexter" in the style of a rom-com sitcom, because it could totally work.

Decent opening, but we will have to see if they can keep it up.

I didn't care much for the first like half of the episode. The end was about the only good part. Glad to see its progressing though. Ready for next week

Well that was pretty good. I was afraid they were going to pull that "Dexter was dreaming" BS at the end. This season looks promising.

Wow.

They finally did it.

I can't believe it.

Most interesting episode since the end of season 4 right here, folks.

only question is will they go full throttle on it, as in the beginning of the next episode will EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING be laid out on the table, or are they going to drag certain aspects of this out the whole season...like who taught Dexter everything he knows.

Currently I have zero faith for obvious reasons. But if I just look at this one episode and ignore the past few seasons, then I'm cautiously optimistic. Honestly, Deb finding out is only 50% worthwhile for me, the other half is finding out the details of Dexter's life/past, including about her father.

God damn it. It was so easy to write Dexter off as a bad show since the beginning of season 5. I'll give this premiere and season a shot, Dexter used to be one of my favorite shows.

Same, and I was going to write season 7 off completely but reactions in this thread convinced me to watch it.

Let's hope it continues to be good.

Echoing most of the thoughts here. Definitely the most worthy episode since season 4. I didn't really hate 4 and 5, but they felt so meaningless in terms of the overall arc. Glad everything was put out right in episode 1, really excited to see where things go from here.

I'm hoping the side stories are all elevated in quality as well and not just filler.

The end totally redeemed the entire episode because it relieved me to know we weren't going to spend all season having Deb piece it together. She pieced it together quickly and now it's on.

Fuck now I'm mad I have to wait a week for next ep. Why must they do this why can't they make entire seasons available for people when they want as long as you're a showtime subscriber. It's not like there's advertising to think about.

/first world problems

I'm guilty of it too though :(

Biggest thing that bothered me this ep was the airport. No proof needed for your syringes? Ok. That's at least plausible, but literally sneaking around an INTERNATIONAL airport in a very conspicuous way, let alone sneaking into lost luggage to kill a guy, is 100% beyond suspending my disbelief. There are cameras everywhere in airports. You're telling me no one raised any flags at a guy messing with maintenance (bathroom cleaning sign), or entering restricted areas?

Other than that, enjoyable episode!

spoilers for people who aren't subscribers. But then that would be good incentive to sign on....but realistically it would make people not watch at all.

I agree, but it's been a tad ridiculous the past few seasons so I can overlook it.

Definitely didn't expect them to go at things so quickly. Not a bad return at all, I'm curious to see what happens next at this pace. Couldn't help but laugh at killing the random cop they brought in midway last season, noone besides Quinn lasts long unless they've been there from season 1.

Airport scene was fucking ridiculous. Glad they actually treated Deb like a real human being. She's the fucking head of a department and should easily be able to piece this stuff together.

i was expecting this entire season to be filler while deb figures it out. good that they went the way they did, now i'm actually looking forward to this show again

The last scene of the episode pretty much made up for 2+ seasons of garbage. Like others already mentioned, yeah the airport scene was pretty bad even by Dexter standards lol. But damn, I loved how the final scene was shot, with him walking in and seeing what Deb found. Good stuff. Now I can't wait to watch and see how they manage to fuck this up.

If they fuck it up it'll be Dexter convincing Deb to join in and she does and then she kills Dex in the season finale and season 8 the show will be renamed 'Debra' and it'll follow her around killing people.
