Digital foundry has been very lazy lately. They didn't even notice that days gone was more than a frame rate bump. It has vastly improved LOD distance and extra vegetation into the distance as well. None of that was mentioned in their video.

Much better presentation for this game.Ultrawide are much better man
You can play the ps4 version at 60fpsYou see Sucker Punch? That's what enhanced update mean and definitely worth the price. Take note. Though I don't love particularly this game.
He wasn't even in episode 1Why did HiKo pick him? for the game ..., i could not finish episode 1 of that Zombie Series. Mamon Feedus is overrated.

- Save Transfer is terrible, can not transfer save if you have ANY tasks at all active in the game

More than 3 seconds.drop to 45fps at 18:08 so kinda similar perf as expected, wonder what are loading times on pc
So now they do Tech Reviews?
People that have never programmed a game in their lives now review tech they know nothing about?
They should stop at measuring framerates.
Somebody quickly tell MKBHD to stop reviewing phones ASAP. He has never built a phone!"people who never directed a movie are now doing movie reviews?"
"people who never cooked for a restaurant are now doing food reviews?"
"people who never designed a videogame are now doing game reviews?"
"people who never designed a board game are now doing board game reviews?"
"people who never built a car ate now reviewing cars?"
"people who never manufactured a mobile device are now doing phone reviews?"

Kojima Productions also actually went it and "reshot" some of the cinematics too. Basically they moved around some of the characters and objects in some cutscenes to better fit the spacing in the wider shot.they don't support ultra wide, the game has an ultra wide mode that simply renders less of the image and widens the FOV

Great to see them let the native 4k mode run at an unlocked framerate. It mostly sits at 60 fps but drops in cutscenes and boss fights.
The 5700xt also averages 60 fps at native 4k but at max settings. PS5 version doesnt seem to have max settings so with its higher tflops count it should be able to run at an average of 60 fps too.
Maybe DF can do a comparison of boss fights and cutscenes between the PS5 version and the 5700xt to see if they are identical.
Depends, what is the next least adopted tech feature that exists? Probably will start complaining that it doesn't output native 1366x768 for their 15 year old plasma TV that uses more energy than a clothes dryer.Once vRr comes out when the board certifies the tech universally, I wonder what the next catchphrase will be![]()
For the average gamer DF looks like tech guys but hosnestly if I were a game developer wont thrust on them to do the test QC before a game goes gold.Bro if you are not a physicist you are not going to peer review a physics paper.
This is technical stuff we are talking about, it is a TECH review not a normal review.

Quick Summary:
- QUALITY MODE is full 4k, variable 60fps, drops to mid-40's during heavy action
Kojima Productions also actually went it and "reshot" some of the cinematics too. Basically they moved around some of the characters and objects in some cutscenes to better fit the spacing in the wider shot.
Yes of course on PS5 its still outputting as 16:9, but its not quite the same as just an FOV slider. They change to a brand new camera shot.

Yeah but its not the same as just an FOV slider. Like Rocket League has an FOV slider on console. Not the same as this.they had to do that because they didn't have an FOV slider in there. IMO stuff like that should always bee considered from the very start but at least they actually went in an properly optimised it

The Order 1886 also ran in ultra wide, which they did to save GPU resources, that doesn't mean the system supports it
Ummm okay, but I took screenshots of the same save point on my PS4 Pro and my PS5 and the PS4 Pro version is inferior graphically compared to PS5.because it's not true? the game literally only got an fps boost
this was still at the time where developers were seemingly locked out of changing graphics settings for PS5 enhanced patches of PS4 games
It's not rendering less, it's fewer pixels sure but there's more in the scene.
Also The Order was no different to this, an artistic choice to offer a wider aspect ratio. There's no evidence that it purely done to save "GPU resources".

Its actually due to the PS5 being unable to support any wider ratio output resolutions.of course it was due to GPU constraints, the game would not run smoothly in full screen, they are literally rendering 26% less pixels than a native full screen resolution would

The console can only output 3840 x 2160 or 1920 x 1080.
Only way to fit a 21:9 game into a 3840 x 2160 output container is to render 3840 x 1645 internally and output as 3840 x 2160 with black bars.
That's cool, but still, Digital Foundry never mentioned the extra detail on the PS5. That was my whole point.it could be that the game uses a dynamic setting that is based on GPU load. the Forza series does this, where the game drops settings as the GPU hits its limit. it changes stuff like Car LOD and Antialiasing dynamically to adjust during heavy GPU load
Things you show here can be easily popin issue and they happen on Horizon too. I really really doubt it's better LOD, simply ps5 is faster to load some details where on pro take more cause in some capture some details doesn't appear just in time. I said that because Days are Gone still runs in BC mode on ps5 and hardly they can increased the LOD setting.Ummm okay, but I took screenshots of the same save point on my PS4 Pro and my PS5 and the PS4 Pro version is inferior graphically compared to PS5.

PS4 Pro. Tow truck is also missing it's front wheel. That will pop-in when you get closer (LOD)

PS5. Notice the extra grass detail into the distance as well as the tow truck has it's wheels back?

Edit: I first noticed the extra detail when I played it on PS5 because I specifically remember hating how many low-poly objects there were so close to the camera on PS4 Pro, and when I saw it was fixed on PS5, I was pleasantly surprised. Sadly, DF never picked up on any of that. They just looked at resolution and frame rate.
and they know the tech. John programs and models backgrounds for his DF Retro episodes, Alex also dabbles in stuff with Unreal engine etc.
they also talk to developers directly and learn about new tech and how engines work.
so they know the tech, and can also review it.
Its .. Stranding .. tall! So, back on the topic of Death Stranding.
Just watched.
So, I don't have a wide-screen monitor, but can I still play in widescreen quality mode with the black bars in order to get my full real 4k at 60fps instead of the regular quality mode which has more drops?
