JareBear: Remastered

Thomas Morgan breaks down the Mafia 2 remaster, released last week
- Interiors beautifully laid out, attention to detail remains
- most notable update is use of parallax occlusion maps
- boost shadows all around and texture filtering improved
- One X runs 1800p
- XBO runs at 1080p dynamic resolution, lowest it goes is 900p
- Base PS4 runs at stock 1080p
- Pro runs at 1440p
- One X and Pro get high setting of PC for shadows
- Pro and One X are visually identical to each other outside of resolution
- XBO dips below 30fps especially during asset streaming transitions while driving
- Similar problem on base PS4, but quote as prominent, though during a car chase scenario both base consoles struggle
- Pro is worst performing version of the bunch, sometimes dropping to 20fps in interiors
- Segments of the map, like driving through an underpass, seem locked to 20fps on Pro
- One X solves many of the issues, like the interior dips are not as present, but still has drop into 20s in the same underpass as Pro, but overall X is much better equipped to handle the engine
- Glitches galore
A decade on from its original release Mafia 2 gets the remaster treatment. New textures, improved POM and more bring this second entry up to date on PS4 and Xbox One - and yet something is amiss with its frame-rate. PS4 Pro in particular suffers unique drops unseen on other machines, though all consoles struggle to hold 30fps.
