(DF) Quake on Sega Saturn - the impossible port

Nice video.

The Game Boy Color had a few "impossible" ports too:

Cannon Fodder

Had an FMV intro and a 3D menu screen.

Great port with fluid animation.

Other impressive games that pushed the GBC to the limit:

Perfect Dark
Resident Evil (unreleased)
Warlocked
Tomb Raider
Rayman
Donkey Kong Country

IIRC, Tyrannosaurus Tex wasn't 'impossible due to technical wizardry, it just required an absurdly large ROM to work and no publisher was ever going to pay to manufacture such a cartridge.

Here's another flashy unreleased GBC game: Katakis 3D by Manfred Trenz, a Space Harrier-esque rail shooter that works like a lower-tech version of Shin'ens Iridion 3D: https://www.twitch.tv/c_huelsbeck/v/13266370

The video swayed my interest in ordering a copy. Looking forward to playing it; will post my impressions in the Saturn thread once I have it. Cheers.

Completely untrue as far as I know. Sony had nothing whatsoever to do with porting Q2. It was a job-for-hire deal between us (Hammerhead) and Activision.

If anyone from DF wants the skinny on the development process of that particular title, feel free to PM me. It was quite a time we had :D

Any general questions from GAF, fire away.

Out of interest, why was PC intro replaced with a new one?

This makes me feel wistful. And old. I seem to remember there being a code for an alternate control scheme that made it control fairly decently with a 3D pad.
