Did you use to be an edgelord?

My first email was edgelord material.. I think I'm still of an edgelord as all my friends basically call me by my tag "Ruin", but have mellowed down to "Ru" or "Ruru" these days.

I think, on some fundamental level, that if you had the words "sniper" and/or "wolf" in any of your usernames then it's likely you are the king of edge.

Well I was in the Runescape clan world for over 10 years so...yeah. The aftermath discussions on the community forums were often more brutal than the wars themselves.

Luckily I never got this bad.

Absolute gold.

Not really, thankfully. My CS:S nick was ULTRANINJA at some point and I'm still AlmightyARA here and there, but they are and have always been intentionally stupid and cheesy to make fun of the real edgelord nick names.

Muntu was my first ever online nick anywhere, hardly very edgy lmao

e: even my Steam avatar has been a pic of baby me for some years now lol

I used to call myself "Hunter" back in the old CS 1.6 days. Then I added a tag in front of it (everyone else had it and it looked cool), so it ended up being [KMKZ]Hunter.

About the closest I ever got was when I chose my Xbox Live account name back in 2002. I picked Gram_Negative, as in a gram negative organism. I only had it for a few months before I switched it back to my normal handle that I've been using since '96...... and it's not sexually aggressive uncle btw

Never really thought Gram_Negative was really edgelord material but I remember several people commenting on it.

I wanted a cool sounding name for Warcraft 3 because obviously you need a badass name if you want to be good at the game, logically. So i came up with "sC.WasP". because the sC sounded like a clan handle, and wasps are badass motherfuckers.

I still use it partially lol. But it's gotten changed to a more flaccid sounding "scwasp", which no one can pronounce

I used to have a blog. I used the name "Destructo".

My dad stumbled across it one day, he was very supportive. He called me "my sweet little Destructo".

Shame is too weak a word.

When I started playing WoW I wanted to name my orc warrior 'JediMaster' but it was taken :-(

And no, JediMaster plus a number wasn't cool enough.

Other than my dumb psn ID which is zazhunter, the closest i have been to an edgelord name was when i used to play Battlefield as AngryJack.

I don't think I ever was.

I bought Portal on ebay once and the guy actually sold me his steam account with Portal on it and the username was "Menitta". I'm Menitta now.

Prior to that, everything was Nintendo which didn't have Usernames, just Miis.

Edit: I do still enjoy Shadow the Hedgehog though.

This story makes me smile

the first name i remember having in online gaming was ^SpAcE_cHiCkEn^ on diablo. i seem to remember it was an earthworm jim reference but i can't find anything on that now.

While you were pretending to have edge, I studied the blade...

*fades into the mist*

My psn tag from teenage - present is ScarletMyst, so I think that says it all

I made an alt xbl account called xxNoobSlayer54xx but it was a deliberate attempt at making something as dumb and generic as possible.

My username on many forums and in the early days of internet chat was neo (yep, I'm that old that in my day neo was occasionally still an available user tag) or neo_the_one.

So yeah.

Does the fact I didn't know what "edgelord" was before I clicked the thread for reference make me more or less edgy?

I'm 35, married with a toddler, I need all the edge I can

Nope, never, Ive always hated them. Even when I was 13 I cringed cartoons and games that try to go that route.
Seems that I thankfully never had that phase. My small cousins have had some shitty sonic dark yoshi gamertags and avatars though.

Sonic's modern mythos and dark yoshi shit fuck up with kid's heads though. Even Reaper and dark pit, that were creted as parodies of this archetypes fall for their trap and this edgy kids love them the same, as much if its actually laughing at them.

People tend to think my username is trying to be edgy or something. "Acid", so edgy, corrosive. In fact it's just the name I typed to play Counter Strike 1.5 while I had a massive headache and I saw an aspirin box on the table that said "Ácido Acetil Salicílico". Acetylsalicylic Acid. So pretty much a variation on the first thing I saw around.

I've always been Yoshi. Sometimes guYoshi if Yoshi was taken (those meanies taking my nickname :() because of a German website gaming-universe I frequent (and write for nowadays). The edgiest I have used is probably Y0shi in IRC when Yoshi was taken. In extreme cases also Y0sh1, when even Y0shi was taken.

Unfortunately.

My AOL screen name in the late 90s/early 2000s was KnightKilla2016, got the idea from the bow weapon Algus uses in Final Fantasy Tactics

Edit: When I first seen this thread, I don't know why my brain though edgelord was a Smash technique reference of being very good at edge hogging tactics. Don't ask cause i can't evwn tell you why

I think everybody was a bit but i think i was on the milder side. I never really enjoyed dark, gritty stuff so all my names were either silly or nice.

Used to be Fliipz360 on XBL IIRC. Thinking back the double i and the z seem kinda cringy.

I used to be edgy as fuck. When i was little and played wwe '07 i always tried to mske my character some kind of Neo trenchcoat copy. My original gamertag is "BizarreDread". My first dark souls character was a shirtless skinny and pale katana build. I once had a profile picture of me in a fedora, both irl and as one of those xbox characters. A store nearby used to have a set of katanas thst i windowshopped from time to time. My go to animes were Death Note and Elfen Lied.

Thankfully i grew out of the phase, somewhat.
I stipped the whole "edgelord behavior and look" part at least. But i would be lying if i didnt still love using katanas in games and over the top edgy anime (go watch drifters yall). I guess im still into the edgy stuff in games, but im more self aware of how silly this stuff is.
