the lava in this game still looking pretty bad/flat but everything else looks good
At 900p I do hope it isn't as blurry as Zelda seemed at times. Can't wait to dive in.
I dunno. Look at Mario Kart 8 on WiiU vs 3D World as an example of a simple AA solution vs no AA solution.
I dunno how people can think there is no AA here. It's not a great solution but it's clearly there.
Zelda was dynamic resolution so it dropped to under 900p when the system was taxed. Shouldn't have that here.
I watched the whole video and don't remember ever saying no AA, not sure why it's in OP.
I made some basic comparisons on the last page. And yeah, the edges in SMO do look smoother.I was going to do some comparison pics, but I'm having problems finding uncompressed video or images not taken using the photomode which would make the comparison moot. Like it seems pretty clear to me even on youtube footage, but the poor compression on the edges of objects wouldn't give a clear example.

You and me brother.
I'll never understand people watching and analyzing every trailer and media put out before a game's release if they intend to play it themselves.

You guys need to give it a rest.

The "lava" or whatever it's supposed to be looks turrible.lol, nice try with that screen shot

That cutscenes in portable mode bit has me worried.
that's not surprising! the screen shot itself is garbage quality
Zoomed in 4x nearest neighbor taken from a BMP file taken from Digital Foundry's website. I'm not sure if the original was directly captured from the Switch, or via Capture card but it's definitely taken outside of photomode (this was taken from a set of images comparing regular and photo mode).
You can clearly see on the chains an AA solution of some kind. You can tell by the color dithering from the chain's black to the surrounding blue from the water. With no AA or any sort of post processing there would be a clear line between the black and the blue.
As expected, the photomode has an additional AA level on top of this if anyone wants me to post a comparison from the same shot.
No AA is stupid, ruined the art style.

Switch is weak, man.
Not even trolling. Those handheld specs blow considering handheld is the main draw for me.
Oh no, the cut-scenes. My game playing experience is ruined </3
it's become a nintendo staple at this point. make really nice, clean visuals, with great, colourful art styles, and let the lack of AA gouge your eyes out.
is it really expensive for them to add it to games on the switch or something?

I'm pretty sure the only Nintendo game on Switch with no AA to speak of is MK8D. Every other game (BotW, ARMS, Splatoon 2, SMO) has AA at least in certain areas.
Huh? How could it be better than 720p/60fps when the screen is 720p? Those are basically the best possible specs for handheld mode you could have...
OOK.....Switch is weak, man.

Watch the video? It's literally at the very beginning.
We've been discussing this at length in the thread. It seems the OP and DF are wrong about there being no AA,

Obviously no apples to apples comparison to prove there is AA since we don't have any exact images without AA at all. These images do illustrate the differences in the level of AA between regular and photo mode though. Same setup as before, BMPs taken from DF's website, 400% nearest neighbor scaling.
First regular:
Even in non-photo mode there are very few stair steps, especially where you'd expect to see them. Where the sand meets the rocks there is a little, but it's more noticable above that where the rock once again meets the sand.
That said, look at things like Mario's hat and nose, and even at 400% scale you can see they are actually pretty round with no clear stepping.
That said, for photo mode:
You can see the stepping is definitely reduced further in the background. You can make out the difference on Mario's nose and hat as well, but it's still pretty subtle. The biggest difference is, of course, the shadows. But as the DF video already stated, that's not a case of AA so much as just straight up higher resolution shadows.
You can clearly see more stepping in the background in this image than in most of the zoomed in SMO screenshots. This is what a complete lack of anti aliasing looks like.
SMO has AA.
While part of SMO's fuzziness is no doubt due to its resolution (see BotW vs. ML8), the edges are noticeably smoother than in MK8 and BotW. Yes, it's not the best form of AA, but it's there.
Why do you think I included the BotW screenshot at exactly that positon?Might just be excessive bloom on everything.
