I know you said in another topic that you weren't going to download the 1.2 patch ... Did you get these freeze's after installing that patch ? Because a lot of people said freezing increased after the 1.2 patch.

What's weird is that I've hardly had any freezes pre/post patch. Just a few over a pretty long period of play, usually extended play, over multiple characters.
So I don't get any freezing really... but I have the chronic framerate/slowdown/stuttering/hitching/coughing and wheezing...

I did download it a few days ago yes. But I wasn't having so many freezes so often as today.

This is what's so mind boggling about this situation. One of the most high profile games of this generation is broken on one of the platforms that it was released on. Sites should be all over this story. Has anyone even reached out to Bethesda to get them to comment on it?

Shouldn't we also cry foul at the gaming journalism for not taking up this issue full force?

Technically it's grounds for a lawsuit against the company, but I don't think many have enough money to take on Bethesda's lawyers.
yup, sites like Gamespot, Giant Bomb etc mentioned on twitter that they never got the PS3 ver before reviews went up.

This is all on Bethesda, buddy. If, in 2011, you're incapable of making a PS3 game that doesn't have game-breaking bugs, your either lazy or grossly incompetent. And as much as you say Bethesda doesn't give two craps about the PS3 (which I find to be true), they sure as hell don't mind taking PS3 gamer's money, and at that point they are obligated to ship out a working product (at the very least!!), regardless of what they may feel about the platform. This situation with Skyrim is inexcusable.

I don't know if there's much people can do. It's quite interesting (and sad) that several sites decided to run stories about the Uncharted 3 review reactions, but Bethesda releasing a broken game isn't newsworthy.
Bethesda hid the PS3 version from reviewers, and reviewers obediently just copy and pasted their 360 review into their PS3 review.
Pathetic really, whenever a developer does not give you both versions to review, it means they're hiding something, but these game "journalists" can't be bothered to ask questions.

Yeah, if reviewers didn't get sent the ps3 version then they shouldn't have done a ps3 review at all. Acting like it's not their fault afterwards is pathetic.
Happy I waited and stuck it on my Christmas List, I didn't have a lot of problems with FO3 but NV was a bit of a mess when it first came out, after that I decided to just not bother with their games at release and just get them further down the line.
Hopefully it will be fixed by Christmas, if Bethesda couldn't do the PS3 versions on their own they should have brought someone else in to help instead of releasing and having to deal with the mess afterwards.

Lol. No.
One more patch before Christmas and that's only to fix the things they broke with the 1.2 patch. After the next patch, Bethesda is shutting down for the Holidays and won't start work again until January.
Terrible business practices. Sure spend Christmas with your family, but don't ignore your shitty hackjob port that people actually spent money on ... Ugh. Oh well.

This same sort of thing happened to me with New Vegas on PC. Every time I got over a certain amount of saves the frame rate would drop down to between ~10-15 outside of combat and less than 10 during combat (compared to before when I was getting between 50-60 FPS). Also VATS was completely useless (it would take over a minute just to load the hitzones without stats).
Luckily for me I haven't had too many problems outside of crashing after fast travel with Skyrim.

You are a good poster but that is a very, very stupid post.
Oblivion had a ton of issues with 5mb+ save files too, but they would rarely get that high.

I didn't know about this, that's seriously shitty. Special thanks have to go to Bethesda for releasing the game in this state, Sony for certifying it and game reviewers for not mentioning it at all.

I see your point, but every Bethesda game for PS3 has had problems which only manifest themselves after a long time playing. Fool me once, etc.

From this point on, they might have to. While this might not be something they normally do in their certification process, they might have to make an exception for Bethesda. Considering that this problem has occurred in multiple games by Bethesda, this should raise a flag that they need to institute longer testing period specifically for Bethesda's games.

IGN has all three of their PS3 editors playing the PS3 version. They talked about the patch on the podcast, but none of them were having any major issues. I suspect what DF is showing in the video is not representative of the average player. It is probably cherry picked to be worse case.
Actually, Digital Foundry posit that the problem is caused by memory issues. They proved this to be the case by loading a large save file, and then starting a new game: stuttering is then witnessed in the new game. If this is the case, then it is likely to be inevitable for ALL players, eventually.
Surely the best solution would be to periodically 'reset' areas, thereby reducing the save size? I can quite happily believe that the body of the rat I killed 65 hours ago may now have gone, or that the owner of the cup I stole 50 hours ago has now replaced it with a new one, or the barrel which I knocked over has now been picked up. I guess certain areas, dungeons and whatever, could be tagged as 'un-resetable', but allow habitable locales to reset themselves over time?
Or they haven't played enough for their save file to exceed 6MB.

Pretty sad state of affairs. I haven't touched either console version but I feel for the PS3 folk. Tons of bad PC ports over the years makes that easy.
Get ready to laugh, because it's going to inevitably win many by how the media gushed over the game and blew off these fatal game issues.

Bethesda should go back to only working on the PC version of the game while outsourcing the console ports. All of their PS3 releases were like this except for Oblivion which was outsourced.
Played both fallout games at my friend's and they are broken beyond repairs.
Fallout 3 on PS3 becomes unplayable if you play a lot and do every quests. The Broken Steel add on becomes impossible to beat as the game will crash every 2 min in the final battle (huge firefight). The more you play the more unstable the game becomes and will freeze more often.
Same is true for New Vegas. By the time you are at the last battle in the legion's camp the game will have turned into a slideshow and will crash often.
The only remedy to this is to rush through the game. If you don't play for too long the performance won't drop.
