DigiTimes Rumor: New version of Xbox One coming early next year?

I don't think a manufacturing plant will be needed to take away a Kinect. It be crazy for a technological update though.

This is a ridiculous rumor. Kinect is integral to the X1. They wouldn't just make it an optional item after building the whole UI and system around it.

It's hilarious that people are clowning on Penello too. He's totally lying to our faces, no reason to believe him right? Some people on this forum need to get some perspective.

Like others have said this is undoubtably the media box version that doesn't play games.

They would not need to redesign the hardware to take Kinect out of the box.

I'm thinking Apple TV + Cable/DVR for $199. This would fall in line with Microsoft's "Me too!" strategy of recent years. (Zune, Surface, etc.)

microsoft will never release a kinectless SKU, it defeats the whole purpose of their new OS which is designed less for controllers and more for voice. I will bet a tag on it

Stealth Tag Fishing.

It'll be the non-game Xbox One. And... $200 is perfect impulse buy territory. $300 is an extremely hard sell though. Unless they drop the price quickly.

Wrong, it's already optional. It's still forced in the box however.

It's still a major focus of their marketing though and the thing nearly everyone is talking about, good or bad. I think making it "optional" was a pr move to quiet minority and quell a storm of bad press from early this year, but I don't think MS has any interest in selling a kinect-less Xbox .

If you don't think MS employees can and have spread blatant misinformation here then it' s you who needs the perspective, or just pay attention. Even if this rumor proves false the lack of trust has been earned,

Yep.

I had to do this whole explanation to TheKayle about what a "peripheral" is.

Kinect 2.0 os my first proper experience with Kinect. Only briefly used the first and wasn't impressed. Honestly wouldn't want the system with out. Voice commands works 99% of the time -- even with my grim Northern Ireland accent. Skype tech is great too and the gesture control is even quite useful for when I'm just sitting about.

Their interest doesn't mean jack, sales do. And in 6 months if it's not selling you better damn well believe something is going to happen. And beating Sony on price and still including the camera is not going to happen so that only leaves one choice.

*snip*

If Sony is leading in sales, there'll be no need to react so quickly. But yeah, Sony probably has a plan in place to maintain that price advantage.

I kind of expect them to be fairly aggressive in maintaining the price advantage even with a sales lead. Unless it becomes something insurmountable ala' PS2 and I just don't think that scenario is likely.

I also wonder if their design decisions will allow them to scale down costs quicker. They have it appears a simpler but more powerfull APU design and I would expect GDDR5 costs to scale down relatively quickly. Not down to DDR3 levels but that tech is fairly well established and doesn't have far to go.

But yeah I'm most talking out loud. I don't know.

Granted MS has had some serious missteps but this sounds stupid as fuck. All that money wasted just to do a revision 3 months later? For what? I can't even believe this is a conversation lol

Guys, calm down, it's just an internal hardware revision. Console manufacturers always move onto version 1.1 of thier console a few months after launching. Typically, with each new revision the production costs are reduced slightly, and companies like Microsoft see their profit margins improve.

There are useually no real cosmetic or performance improvements made during these minor revisions. At most the hardware may become slightly more reliable, or the power requirements may be reduced slightly, but it's pretty rare for consumers to notice the differences between these revisions.

Yes, I would like a cheaper Kinect free sku as well, but honestly, the launch would have to be a complete disaster for Microsoft to make a decision like that this early.

yea I was gonna say wasn't the insider report that Microsoft was making 2 Xbox Consoles? One was a hardcore high end game machine and the other was a weaker Media center type console. I'm guessing the PS4 rival will come next year.

I would buy a "game less" XB1 for the family, mainly for Xbox fitness, Skype and a few of the other entertainment features. Then I could game on the PS4 in my room and leave them to their "entertainment experiences" :P

This is either a Kinect-less SKU or something like a $99 box that just streams movies and maybe some games, nothing else.

If Microsoft wants to make people happy, it will be the Kinect-less SKU.

I think it'll also be a Titanfall edition of the Xb1 considering the console rights, E3 hype, $250 collectors edition, white console/mech, etc

after experiencing Kinect today... you guys should really want it..
its impressive... if they can get this console to $399 as it is .....

So this CBOAT, rumored "media only" box cannot do Xbox Fitness I assume?

Eh, I don't want a DVR with just the Xbox brand name.

Ohh, so that's where the gameless Xbox rumor comes from. Hmm....that's....dammit MS, why can't you just release a kinect-less SKU :(

yea but at the end of the day it is optional.you can use a controller for everything.
