Jesus christ, people, it's like you guys never even looked at any Japanese sites.

They all do this hotlink blocking. Just press enter on the address bar after it fails the first time.

The world in Versus is fucking amazing. It's truly 'fantasy based on reality'.
The architecture, world, atmosphere, everything exudes sophistication.
The dark music in the trailer, the scenes with the roundtable of mafia-esque men... I'm honestly really happy something so mature is being made.

This is exactly what I tried, and failed to say on the last page.

FAMITSU YOU IDIOTS. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Not knowing how to deal with Famitsu links should be a bannable offense by now.
I figured it out within 5 seconds but I don't see why it should be a bannable offense...I mean...these are the first famitsu links I've clicked on in over two years...not every gamer shares the same interest as you and, truth be told, there aren't that many high profile japanese games that make themselves as unavailable to the western press. Also, there are a shitload of gamers that, since E3, are now effectively looking into FFXIII for the first time.

I was joking about being bannable, but every damn thread with Famitsu links has 500 posts going "OMG BROKEN LINKZZZZZZZ."

And when the answer lies in post nr 6.

I'm loving the look and sound of both 13 and Versus, but right now I'm MUCH more hyped for 13. DEMO IN MARCH BABY
Hamauzu for 13 and Shimomura for Versus, that's just composer heaven to me. :D

LMAO. who the fuck dresses like that?

I'm still trying to figure how is ROEN designed suits is good news for Versus. Honestly, of all 3 of FNC projects, Versus is the least appealing to me. Nevermind the Sasuke rip off in a suit, but the whole mafia shit with backstreet boys looking dudes is seriously unappealing, it's like trying its hardest to look cool and edgy while failing massively. The fact that the KH team is working on it, is even more lolz since they can't make a good game even if it was to save their lives. I wonder how fun an arpg by this team without all the disney shit would be, I WANT TO BE SURPRISED.

Agito is the best FNC project so far IMO, actual GAMEPLAY shots. INFRACSTRUCTURE. Interesting worldview, and the gameplay sounds appealing to me.

Those are the types of clothing that impress in fashion shows but 95% of them never make them out of shops, if they even make them to the shops to begin with.

I never judged FFX-2 for the pop-style, so I won't judge Versus for that either.

However main difference between X-2 and Versus is the amount of eye-candy (girls doing fan service) on screen, so I expect more female characters to join the party (if there is one) in Versus, because having Noctis alone would be too hard to digest.

Anyway looking forward to an awesome game system, that will make up for any dislike on art direction.

I'm not sure, it looks like it, but there's no mention of it on the website.
Nomura said the Versus suit is on sale already though, and going thru the website, it's the only one that looks like it. Most of their stuff is insane.

its weird that it only happens via neogaf, i've posted these famitsu links on various other forums and they work fine almost everywhere.

Vs looks kind of awkward to me at the moment. They seem to have gotten the mood right, but i'm not sure about what it is that just feels awkward watching it. The outfits also to me doesn't really seem to sit well with the characters and mood.

Oh come on, Kingdom Hearts had its flaws like any other game, but as an overall package it was quite good.

With that out of the way, Versus has always been the most intriguing of the FFXIII games for it's 'fantasy based on reality' theme. Looking at the screenshots, though, the character's faces look a bit funny. But then there's nothing to worry about since we probably won't be seeing Versus on shelves before 2010. :lol

Not all Roen stuff is over the top. I own few pieces myself.
If you want to laugh at some strange stuff take a look at Men's Knuckle magazine, though, even that isn't strange anymore.

While they do have some rather strange things listed on that site like the collaboration shoes, the store in Velvet Shinjuku doesn't sell any of that kind, or at least I haven't seen any in stock.

As someone has said before, while you don't see people running around in black cloaks and the likes (not that often, anyway) that kind of fashion you see on the Roen site (jackets, shirts, Sles cut jeans etc, is normal here, in fact, I'd not be far off telling you that most of those pieces are in fact 'casual' this season from what I've been seeing coming through lately.

From what I've read Nomura has stated he wants a closer tie to more natural clothing in Versus so he started working on collaborations with Hiromu Takahara, the creative director of Roen. He also stated that the Prince is intended to be one of the 'pretty' people in the world, someone who would frequent at high-class clubs etc.

He should have tried Boss, Armani or Adidas to get that natural feeling :lol

Armani would of been nice, yeah. We'll have to wait to see what other types of clothes are going to be used. I have a feeling what we'll get next is going to be interesting. I have no doubts that GAF will destroy it too.

Forget Agito, even forget Versus.. the talent at Square is being spread too thin, they are releasing heaps of mediocre games. Concentrate on releasing a proper Final Fantasy every 2-3 years you a-holes.

It's been 2 and a half years since that real time footage of XIII was shown, what the fuck is going on? All we've seen since then are bullshit snippets of FMV. It really gets to me guys.

WTF are you talking about?

I'd rather have my 2-3 FF-based games per year than a single 1 every 2 and a half years.

It doesn't even make sense. If they had that many people on the game, it wouldn't automatically be quicker. It just means iteration would take more revision, and decisions would take more filtering.

It's been in development since 2003, so five years so far, it'll be six before it's out (Versus development cycle will be 7 or maybe even 8 years, crazy). Who cares? It's going to be worth it because they had that long to iterate on every aspect of the game. I can't see a single reason anyone has to doubt FFXIII delivering.

People are complaining about the lack of good JRPGs on consoles, it's because it takes a really long time to make them. No one is letting them bake long enough. SE are willing to, we should be thankful enough not to wine about waiting.

Development for PS3 didn't start before at least Spring or Summer 2005, though. But few details are known about how they switch from PS2 to PS3, and if the game design/art was drastically altered or not. As for Versus, if I remember correctly, it seems development didn't start until the PAL version of Kingdom Hearts II was completed (September 2006).

I would like to have your PS2. Also, with that image compression and that picture resolution, I'd say that could look like a ps2 game too, regardless of the hair, you know, if I was a retard or something.

good eye! I believe that is. Sera is supposed to be her name or something, right? I remember that drawing from way back that someone made, where the pigtail girl was in that cloaked outfit. Yes, I believe that's her.

I really like how the Versus characters are considerably more held back than previous games. But for me the main draw is the world itself, the art direction really is second to nothing.

In the leaked Festa trailer you saw the guy's walking through the slightly Italian looking square, here's an officially released shot from it. The architecture is just stunning, I really want to be in that world.

vs-screen-016.jpg

When I first got into RPGs I could play almost anything, Chrono Trigger for example was my favorite game for a long time. But as I get older I find it much harder to become immersed in games that have too large of a jump from realty (an example would be the frog characters in WKC that make me cringe), so as far as RPGs go, FFVersusXIII is looking to be the exact game I've been wanting for a few years now.

I can see why people wouldn't like Noctis, but I think the other characters look great.
Very true. I mean, in the official public trailer, at the beginning it says "this is a fantasy based on reality," which really shows. In a way, this appeals to that 20-something gamer that grew up with PS1 FF games, and doesn't really care much for Toriyama's whimsy, and instead desires a similar gritty realism that's found in something like Gears, but clearly this is with a very Japanese twist.

The people complaining should go to the DS and PSP in the mean time, great HD games take long to make as you say.

But I do agree it is, I don't know how to put it, not a mistake, but maybe an oversight from part of some JRPG developers to not take advantage of the Wii.

The Wii is there waiting to keep the PS2 RPG-momentum of fast development and lower budget titles, I'm not talking about shovelware, I'm talking about MMV games, they are an example of how to take advantage of the situation.

SE should follow suit and release something else besides Chocobo games and 'DS players' if they don't want to make anything else on PS2. That would help to shut up people saying that they aren't making any real games on consoles.

They said planning for the FNC projects began just after X-2 was finished (Jan 03 was gold submission?) and that FFXIII was going to be for PS2, while Nomura was going to make his game for the PS3. It depends what you consider development, but writing, developing the characters and working on the concepts and art direction prior to full blown production of the game elements, in my head at least, count at development time.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel. I don't think it's really because of my age, I know a lot of my peers are really big on the very fantastical worlds presented in things like LotR or WoW. I certainly don't see it as any sort of elitism, but my tastes have definitely become more specific, and I find less generally helps with escapism.

Another draw for me is the Action RPG thing, I still really like turn based RPGs but I want to see the genre progress, and I just see this game, of all that's currently announced, to be the one that has the biggest chance of being that game. And whether or not people find the sophistication provocative, they can at least see that it's aimed at a difference audience than FFXIII is. I just happen to fall into that subset more comfortably. Obviously I want FFXIII, and I'll get Agito, even though I don't find it too appealing at the moment. Of three very different art ascetics, there has to be one that stands out, and for me, that's Versus.

Really? I don't think most people who drop that kind of cash on designer clothing want video game ads on the tag.
Video games aren't something the glitterati aspire to.

I wouldn't mind if the tag was inside the suit, you know a little line below the makers' blurb, they usually go by the inside pocket of the jacket.

But not like a football kit you know, with the name of the game and logo all around the suit :lol

Pretty much. Its like, why would I want some kind of stinking logo on my clothing to begin with? That's some fucked up consumerism brainwashing speaking right there.

Not having a visible tag on the suit, no. Just a placard or certification that comes with the suit displays that this is the official Versus suit to satisfy my nerdy side.

I think the whole set looks really nice, something I could wear to a formal party and stuff.

Yeah that's be nice, if it came in a box with the Versus logo embedded or something. I guess it's being treated primarily as designer clothing, as appose to game merchandise. I would never spend that kind of cash on a game tie-in suit, but I would spend it on a suit I wanted. But I have no doubt people would buy this just because Noctis wears it. You'd certainly be the most classy cosplayer at any event.

Jesus. Personally, I'd never wear this to a smelly and sweaty cosplay event, but then again, its not like hardcore cosplayers don't spend thousands on their own outfits either.

What? Action RPGs are progressive? They've been around just as long as -- if not longer than -- turn-based RPGs. I really don't know where people are getting the idea that turn-based combat is 'archaic' and that action-oriented combat is somehow new and exciting/progressive.

This says, to me, that you think turn-based combat is old hat and/or stale (key words: "still enjoy") and that you think action RPGs are progressing the genre.

I'm not quite sure how else that could be interpreted.

It could be interpreted in the manner in which it was intended to be read.
Your implication was that I said that Action RPGs are progressive, I didn't say that at all. I said that I hope that Versus XIII will be progressive.

I do consider the Action RPG genre to hold more potential in terms of future developments than turn based RPGs, but I didn't say that. And even if I did, it doesn't effect when the genre emerged.

Backstreets back, alright!
Sometimes, its really frustrating to be on GAF, surrounded by people who are only able to relate concepts of looking clean and stylish with either being a girl, or gay. Its like, seriously? Really? There's such an incredible disconnect between people who clearly grew up with only American media, and those who've expanded their horizons and understand the aesthetic value of youthful metrosexual men in east asian pop culture.

I mean, seriously, Backstreet Boys is our only point of reference? What's next, N'SYNC? Oh, that's right, Lance Bass is gay. Of course, therefore, they're all gay. The entire metrosexual movement is gay. Let's all just lounge around, smelling like built up sweat and dirt, sitting in infront of our computer, talking about how NOBODY could possibly wear these clothes, with that hair, and that body, because we're all just obese, meat loving, stink-farting americans, amirite?

And when I say "American," I mean "I only know about my own country and the people around me, so anything that's alien is preposterous and non-realistic."

Its shit like this that reminds me of this episode of Entertainment Tonight that I once saw while flipping through channels, when they were showing a "fashion police" segment with that "Cojo" guy, where he went around some random salon, showing photos of celebrities, and there was one photo of Britney Spears wearing a semi-traditional Korean dress, and while this Cojo guy was showing this photo to these old ladies, he came off so sure of himself, when out of nowhere, this lady says "hey, isn't that Korean?" and they quickly cut to another clip.

Its like, wow, great job at being cultural fucktwad.
