DmC: Devil May Cry - Demo Thread [Demo out now on XBL & PSN]

I did not realize the demo for this game is out. Isn't the game releasing in February or something? Capcom sure does love releasing demos early. I'll give this a shot once I get home from work.

The Eye of Dante works for Android phones now, they just put out a patch. I tried some stuff around the house and got nothing.

We haven't gotten any "combo" videos out of the MGR demo. I don't think it's that type of game.

It really doesn't seem so. Everything that I've seen of Revengeance, as well as what I experienced when I tried the demo at a pal's place, reminds me more of something akin to Viewtiful Joe and less of DMC/Bayo.

And to me, there's nothing wrong with that. Especially since Bayo2 is on the way.

So, ive learned that you can hold an E&I charge shot while using the Oasiris. It just requires that you charge E&I before you switch weapons, and little yoga of the fingers. It also removes your ability to use angel lift, naturally.

The combos that can be pulled off with it are absolutely bonkers, though. I was able to spin lift 2/3 enemies with the oasiris, proceed into the second spin, cancel it when about to get hit by another enemy on the ground, fire off the charge shot that I had on hold (which kept the enemies already in the air in the air) lift the one that the was nagging me into their little group, then finish with an Oasiris charge spin.

That was the most impressive thing I've been able to pull of yet, and I've played this demo waaaayyy too much.

I have been talking about this for quite some time now actually.

The thing is that charging E&I is weird and it looks more like a glitch when you are switching stances while charging. This is one of those glitches that they shouldn't remove because it ups the comboability in the game dramatically. Ricoshot is swag, probably one of the few actual solid additions they have made to the series. It also fits well in this game because it's more focused on crowd control and comboing multiple enemies at once, wouldn't have been as good if you had the old charge shots.

Q&A is about the end. It's been interesting, to say the least. Lots of cool factoids about the game.
Missed the Q&A, was at work. Will look at some of this stuff.

This post is curious:
In terms of progress since the time of finalizing the demo specifically - yes, the team was able to address several issue in the full game that hopefully provide an ever smoother gameplay experience.

@Rambi, We've definitely seen a lot of feedback on the Arbiter, though I think some of your feedback is also unique. I just want to encourage you to keep experimenting with the moves and their positioning properties before writing them off. The Osiris knock-back finisher has its applications, but there are times when you'll want to switch to another weapon to prevent it. Trinity Smash is powerful, especially on demo drones, but not a be-all-end-all. It's also quite exposing, and you'll notice that Arbiter natural blows all cause knockback on smaller enemies, which is sometimes disadvantageous.

At any rate, we're definitely recessing the feedback we've been getting and are investigating some potential rebalancing as a result, but we can't really make any concrete guarantees right now.

On the topic of Rebellion coming from Dante's tatoo:

Sometimes a tattoo is just a tattoo and sometimes it is a spawn point for a sword of almost unimaginable power...

Just played the Demo

dunno what was brought up in this thread but...

Heavenly Sword 2?? the weapon use layout(Heavy, normal, Light) is straight up Nariko's 3 form sword theory. I played HS a bunch and 3 minutes into the DmC demo its the first thing that popped into my head. In that sense i think the combat is closer to HS then DMC series. With that said, the combat is not "horrible" but

anyways:

Platforming = cool
environment = cool
Enemies(art+combat design) = meh
Dante(art+characterization) = urghh
Graphics = meh(appreciate the colors but the animations are a bit jumpy and some textures are pretty bad)

Those are some extremely controversial posts in an already controversial game thread from someone who doesn't even have more than 10 posts to his name here.

Tread lightly my friend.

The two dodge buttons are waste of controller input.

Been curious if there is a notable performance difference between the PS3 and 360 demos. I downloaded both but haven't tried either one.

It really doesn't make a difference to me which series stays around. They're not bringing back the cool versions of Vergil and Dante from DMC1/2, so animu vs punk doesn't really make a difference.

The only think that bothers me about the new Dante is that he's so British-looking. I can't even pretend that he's Italian anymore.

I have. It was okay, but I found Dante to be really annoying and unlikeable. Too much "whoo"ing for my tastes.

I think they asked you about how the game plays, not if the character is likeable or not, though. How does DMC3 stack gameplay-wise against DmC in your opinion?

The demo was a lot of fun.

Anyone else hoping DmC will be replacing DMC?

Worst thread bump ever.

I actually find the second dodge button and the dedicated launcher button completely unnecessary.

I was thinking about that yesterday. I've gotten used to them but I really think the "streamlined" controls are a waste. Would love to have those buttons available for something else.

ps3 suffer of 43% of tearing, 28 fps of average, 360, 30 fps & no tearing. I'm ready to stay away from ps3 version.

There was a framerate analysis done. The 360 version is at a stable 30 fps while the PS3 version averages down to like, 29 fps. The biggest culprit for the ps3 version's dip in average fps isn't really because of the gameplay but because of the cutscenes. The PS3 version is pretty stable during gameplay, it's biggest problems lie in the screen tearing and framerate dips during cutscenes. The PS3 version isn't an abomination like bayonetta ps3 or some gaffers here would like you to believe. But the 360 version still remains superior though.

No.

There's a lot of quality combo videos coming out.

Metal and GO (I dig the editing more the combos itself)
nisannka combo

I can't wait to see some with the full arsenal.

The Metal and GO video was taken down. Maybe the author put up copyrighted music along with it?

Oh Credo, you were so fun to fight. Only reminds me though how much of a cluster fuck DMC4 was considering they had you fight the best boss only once but made you trudge through all the other bosses three fucking times, with absolutely no changes to boss behavior/AI and design.

I'll play dmc4 again if it goes on steam Christmas sale.

Still need to complete bloody palace.

edit: just put dmc4 in 360, I guess I did finish bloody palace, I am on the leader board.

I remember quitting because evil dante on the last stage killed me, maybe I was doing a better overall run that time.
