Charge

I spent some time in the ps3 demo with D-pad down as charge and it was much more comfortable than the default control scheme or right/left bumper. Mapping it to bumper made dodging and grappling feel awkward and square was so uncomfortable that I never charged

I usually charge in the air where there is little movement of the left analog stick.
feels good

No offense, but to me, it always feels weird when I see folks with DualShock-preference talk about their dislike of using triggers. Every time I read something like that, I am glad that I never got too used to that DualShock, as far as trigger preferences go - even when I played on PS2 only for quite a few years.

I didn't say anything about triggers. Assigning shoot to one of the bumpers (L1/R1) means I would only have one dodge button and using the special dodge/grapple with whatever stance is on that same side feels awkward.

"Hardcore gamers" are probably the most entitled bunch on the face of the planet.

After supporting the DMC franchise through 4 games, one of which was horrendous, I think they're allowed to comment on the direction the series has been taken.

You think petitioning the White House to have the game pulled from shelves (presuming it's not a joke, but even then...) because you don't like it is in any way reasonable commentary on the direction the series has taken?

Another thing that i thought was really bad idea.
Colour coded enemies = bad idea (severely limits your move set)
No hard lock = bad idea
both of them together, so stupid. I dunno how they thought this was a good choice.

Neither of these things, in and of themselves, is a bad idea. It just depends on how they're implemented.

Color coded enemies add a layer of strategy to encounters and punish button mashing.

As for lock on, I don't miss it in games like Bayonetta but I'm not sure I could have gotten through Demon's or Dark Souls without it.

Because one guy do this, all the people who dont like the direction of the game are "entitled"?

Were you relying on Rebellion? Don't use Rebellion too much. Stick close, Demon Dodge, and Trinity Smash. He can also be grappled from behind after attacks (Or maybe any time, if you can manage to get behind without him facing you.)

He chewed me up on my first attempt, but then I SSS ranked him without difficulty.

Hitting him and getting him down wasn't the issue, it was more the "what the hell do I do to kill him?" when
the blue guy comes out when Virgil hits 1 heath bar left. I kept killing the blue guy and Virgil would get back up, and repeat. I used Devil trigger once but it was wasted on the blue guy. I looked it up finally and it said DT was the way to go, so finally it let me attack Virgil when he was down with DT without the blue guy blocking my attacks.

Not sure if it was my fault or it glitched a bit, but the few times I tried to attack Virgil in Devil Trigger mode while he was down it'd never let me until finally it worked on my 3rd or 4th try.

Eh, I think the color coding thing could have been handled a little more deftly. Demon weapons don't have a lot of combo potential, so all red enemies just get Trinity Smashed to death. Angel weapons don't deal much damage, so all blue enemies take forfuckingever to kill even though you can juggle them all day long and never let them attack.

I think a better solution would have been that they only take damage from the right weapons, but still get hit like normal from other attacks, kinda like the secret missions where enemies only take damage in the air or within a circle, but still respond normally.

No hard lock was a terrible idea, no real justification there. Color-coded enemies could have made way more sense if they took negligible damage from other weapons but the combo didn't break.

Even "hardcore" DMC fans are laughing at that petition. It's so unbelievably retarded.

So Dahbomb, did you end up finding the post about your hypothetical Nero system? :)
Nero's system will also be revamped accordingly. D-Pad changes the Devil Arm (like Yamato that Nero has inside him). Changing the Devil Arm changes the Devil Trigger attacks as well as the O/Devil Bringer button as well as the special moves associated with it and the buffs that the firearms get (like different types Summoned Swords). The unmapped button of R2 gets a new set up that can be swapped ala Bayonetta. Pressing R2 not only changes your current EX weapon but also your firearm so you get to have 4 weapons at once. The new EX weapons will have it's own timing based system that gives its own types of boosts (like an electrical weapon will get Amp charges collected and then discharge as EX moves). New firearm will also have charge moves in 3 different levels along with whatever extra move can be accommodated. You will have 6 Firearms and 6 EX Arms to choose from as well as 8 different Devil arms.

That was a TL;DR version of it, I couldn't find the big write up of it. Also charges are saved in between EX weapons so even if you swap out, the weapon you swap out maintains its charge and you can use it when you swap it in.

Sounds like a DMC4 Dante version of Nero, making him a lot less accessible :)

I will never stop believing in DMC5.

Anybody gotten their key from GMG yet?

Nope, probably won't be out until the 25th.

He is accessible when you start out but by the time you beat the game you will have a shit ton of tools with him. It's the same with DmC Dante. He starts out with limited tools all easy to execute and by the end he has a lot of stuff.

Thing with DMC4 Dante was that he STARTED off with 4 styles right from the get go. There was no build up to acquiring those styles so they basically threw you in with a toolset and no real direction to use the tools with. That's why DMC4 Dante is not that accessible starting off.

True, I guess I just liked the two character setup from DMC4 where you had two characters that played pretty different from each other while your idea for Nero would probably lead to a single character story due to pacing reasons. Different EX systems could really fuck with player's minds. I'd welcome more than Red Queen but 6 would be insane (in both a good and a bad way). We've already seen quite a few people complaining about it in DMC4 :)

Speculating is fun and hurts at the same time.

I am doing DMD mode right now and I am finding it pretty easy. Maybe it is because I have already taken my licks on SoS so I can deal with Dreamrunners and Rages alot better than before.

God, I hate combination Rages. I think there's an Argent door, IIRC, that has you dealing with combination Rages and a Witch on top of them. Shit, that was annoying.

Colored Rages would probably be the most difficulty configuration in the game if it weren't for Round Trip. Being able to essentially remove one of them from play with that move makes the fight much easier than it should be.

Today marks over a week since the game's release. The entire DMC community:

I have half a mind to get the PC version in a few days and at least put out some basic tech videos myself. This is getting embarrassing.

Again, they're probably waiting for PC version.

Did that one today during my Son of Sparda playthrough (which is now completed - onwards to DMD... gulp) and it drove me fucking mad. At least it gets easier as you eliminate more enemies, but trying to take out the witch at the start with those two rats constantly on your case was rage-inducing. I know how to deal with all of them, it's just finding an opportunity to get attacks in without having to evade all the damn time.

Do you REALLY REALLY think one of the "haters" made that pettition? In all honesty, it looks like something one of the "haters gonna hate" crowd would create.

It says a lot about games journalism when it takes 'Forbes' to give the first level-headed opinion on the whole DmC backlash situation.

Wow an article on the whole DmC fanbase situation that does not actually attack the fanbase!

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkai...e-call-people-who-complain-about-video-games/

Basically how the whole being upset with a game's direction or not liking it equals being "entitled". I have seen that word thrown around so much that it has lost all meaning.

I don't like his writing style (many short paragraphs) but I'll take it. I liked this part:

But it’s good to criticize and to complain when it comes to video games, television, film, and any other thing which we consume for personal enjoyment. That’s how you get your point out there. It’s not good to do it by issuing death threats, of course, or by attacking the messenger—a much more common fallacy gamers tend to resort to. And of course some people will complain about everything and rarely offer up solutions. Misery loves company, or something like that.

My advice? Make your arguments solid. Make them more solid than your opponents’ arguments. Your arguments should be rocks to their scissors. Utilize data whenever possible, and avoid logical fallacies at all costs.

And people on both sides are guilty of not doing this.

You can tell when a journalist doesn't have much contact/experience with the "business side" of the Games Industry, and Erik Kain is one of those people.

Just a dude who likes videogames, and happens to write for Forbes.

Though the amount of Dark Souls stories made me wonder a bit, it turns out he just REALLY REALLY loved Dark Souls.

That's a nice article. I do agree with much of it, but I still maintain that the reaction towards this game in particular is far more malicious and venomous, and goes way beyond simply being critical.

Man no taunts in this game reduces the swag level of this game by 40% at least. :(

One of those combos has Dante walking away from the enemy while it's stickied with Kablooey needles. That would've been the perfect taunt moment.

Actually I'm really not sure I agree with the premise that a disappointing sequel can negate the quality of what came before. Even with the most egregious example of a drop in quality, Star Wars, I don't find myself enjoying the first films any less. It seems a really odd thing to argue.
