Do You Eat The Muffin/Cupcake Liners?

I don't eat the paper...I didn't know that was even a thing.

I once read about a gum wrapper you could eat because it would dissolve while you were chewing the gum. Yeah...it didn't really dissolve and made the gum hard to chew and tasted bad.

Never again.

This thread is everything I hate, gah.

Other paper doesn't have cupcake melded to it :P Totally thought this was a common thing, I feel really weird now. Lol.

If it makes you feel any better I did it too when I was a kid, and still do it now and then if enough of the cupcake gets melded to it.

:P

Cupcakes are fine, but I may never be able to eat one again. :(

I have a phobia/OCD thing where I freak out over things in mouths that don't belong and paper is the among the top tier triggers for me.

well, shit. Look what you've done now OP?
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt..

Mmm... Nothing like that globby, fibrous mess slowly dissolving in your mouth as you desperately try to choke it down.

Several people have seen the light.

Sorry about that, hopefully you can put it off enough.

It's just one of my weird quirks.

It's been bad enough in the past that I sometimes have to struggle with eating disorders because of it. Seriously, it's the stupidest thing ever. I had convince myself that forks with food on them were okay.

Eating cake-rubbed paper is really REALLY weird in itself.

But what makes it even weirder is that you eat it first. Like - is it your favourite bit? And if you are just 'getting it out of the way' - I have a better solution: DON'T EAT PAPER!

Admittedly I've never heard of something like that before, but we've all got our kinks.
edit: from what I've read, a lot of times weird food issues are common after a difficult upbringing/parental troubles.

I'm that way with drinks.

If there is dust, or anything at all, in my drink I can't drink it.

One time when I was younger I went to take a drink of water and my mouth became full of wet dust. I look at the drink and some how a ton of dust fell into the cup.

I don't think it's a phobia because I can't find it in the 'phobia' list. More likely some weird expression of OCD. Had it most of my life. My little brothers took full advantage of it, as even the claim that they'd put something in my soda would cause me to give it to them.

Haha, I posted the above at nearly the same time >.<

When Signs came out, my family trolled me so hard. "OMG you are the 'It's contaminated!' girl!"

Mine is bad enough that I have to drink from closable containers. I've gotten better about it (disposable plastic cups are becoming more and more okay, but only if I don't let them out of my sight)

You're doing just fine OP. That paper is thin and tasteless for a reason.

fic, zeth, let me tell you about the time I picked up the wrong cup. The one someone was using as an ashtray...

As a kid I used to eat also the part of the cake that got stuck to the paper, so the paper went to my mouth. And it may have looked weird to someone watching. But I never ate the actual paper...

Sounds like it could be residual symptoms of an eating disorder.
I had a good friend who was a doctor and primarily treated adolescents with eating disorders. Having abnormal or paranoid thoughts about food can often be a result of habits forming around bad thought patterns that were originally simply a result of being malnourished in the first place.

This came up with a search and seemed similar:

Huh, that's interesting. I thought the 'phobia' caused the eating disorder, not the other way around.

And it's interesting that I still have periods where I can't eat (just got over one such period, figured it was related to other things). This last one lasted nearly a full week.

The relationship is probably kind of cyclical, as being malnourished can certainly reinforce unhealthy thought patterns. A brain that's running on fumes will be "dumber" in a sense. I still have trouble with this from time to time, and have learned to basically stop myself whenever I have unhealthy thoughts and go eat before I consider dwelling on them further.

Are you able to break that shit down enough to swallow?! Seems like it would turn into a big sloppy mess.

Yep, I just chew for 5 or 10 seconds and swallow. Goes right down without any issues. Usually have a bit of milk with a muffin or cupcake anyway.

I've peeled off some of the cake stuck to the paper, before. Eating the paper is just weird, like what a dog or goat or something would do.
Woof

Maybe if I stop considering it a phobia and start thinking of it more as an eating disorder I might be able to start moving past it. Seriously, I've always just thought it was something I had to deal with, and planned my life accordingly. Thanks a bunch for the advice.

With pleasure, I hope it helps :)

Sounds like you're dealing with something that's pretty deeply rooted by now, so you may also want to try and "train" yourself gradually to try and overcome the phobia. Like giving yourself small challenges and slowly pushing the boundaries one step at a time.

It's paper with sweet bread! In any case, that particular comment was a jokey reply to the comment quoted.

Considering you eat roasted burned paper and can't seem to waste one morsel of a cupcake despite intestinal tract problems that can occur from inedible and perhaps toxic chemicals in the wax paper you are eating...

How the fuck would anyone think that was a joke?

I wonder how weird that episode of Seinfeld would have been about the muffin tops if it was actually about the muffin paper
