Do you have any "Bronie" friends?

I can see why bronies got hate in 2010 and 2011 when it was popular to post pony reaction images to literally everything, but it's been over four years now and it still soils peoples' opinion on MLP fans. And even if the reaction images don't garner hate as much as it used to, the extreme fans of the show who use the show as their entire identity helps spread the idea that all fans are like that when it isn't true, at least in my experience. My brother and I watch new episodes on Saturday mornings, it's fun to take in a show that has zero cynicism and enjoy the goofy cartoon for what it is, a cartoon. Do we 'ship' ponies and make OCs and fanfiction and art? No. We just laugh at the jokes and enjoy the characters.

Do some fans take it to extreme levels? Yes, every fandom has this. Why is this such a horrible thing to people, it's to be expected at some point. Most fans are secretive about it because it has such a negative reputation in the first place. It's similar growing pains that Star Wars and Star Trek fans had until the series became more mainstream and "cool" to watch.

It's never going to be "cool" to watch in the same way it's "cool" to watch Star Wars/Trek (ugh, is it cool? I feel like it's still not really cool in any real sense, just not agitating in the nerd community as MLP is), because those two are properties which are thematically made for adults, and the other is a property made for little girls which happens to somehow lure in older folk too. It's a difference in intent, and so people are naturally going to react to that. Intent matters. Nobody wants to constantly have to stumble upon images of a show made for seven year old girls if they're not into that, because it's friggin' weird bro. There's nothing wrong with being into that if that's what you like, but it's the type of thing... like, if Dora the Explorer was suddenly the "it" thing with 30 year old nerds, I'd also hope they can keep that in its appropriate community. It's just insufferable browsing a game site and having to see images of Solid Snake morphed into a pony.

Says the person indeed, that's the whole point. It's cool to keep the almost unhealthy obsessions where they belong, so the rest of us don't have to get dragged into it. I have never posted a single bit of Steven Universe fanart anywhere ever, because I don't define my life based on a show I may like. I discuss it in the topic, and in the topic alone and then forget about it the second I close the thread tab.

You don't get it, do you? pony peridot was appropiate for the thread, even if it was a pony it was still Steven Universe fanart, absolutely nobody gave a shit about it being a pony because it was peridot, except you, who decided to go on a tirade because a pony ruined your day, ponies didn't shit up that thread, YOU did, and that's what im talking about, this irrational hate for bronies (or whatever fandom you may happen to not like) is more often than not 10 times more toxic than the bronies themselves.

And this thread is proof, just lookk at the amount of circlejerking going on because people have the need to feel better about themselves and bronies are low hanging fruit. It's disgusting, and GAF is supposed to be better than this.

I get it entirely. Steven Universe is Steven Universe, and ponies are ponies. I don't want to click a link and accidentally be staring at Connie morphed into a pony any more than I want to continually hear how awesome Fluttershy is in an actual MLP thread. It's fucking done and tired. If you guys get your jollies morphing characters into ponies, that's on you. That's awesome, I hope you are genuinely happy for it. But the rest of us are tired of it. And I'm most assuredly not the only person it matters to, or else ponies wouldn't have had the moratorium on posting everywhere outside of its appropriate community that it has. Why should we have to deal with those obsessions? It's OK bro. Look how over the top you're getting because you can't accept that simple fact. Just accept nobody else wants to see that trash but pony obsessives and move on from this silliness. There's nothing important in the gesture.

It's proof nobody wants to have to see MLP trash. I think we can all agree to that. It wouldn't have ever become low hanging fruit if the fandom didn't make it so.

I don't watch The Simpsons, it doesn't bother me when people post it in non Simpsons threads though. It's kinda the same idea. :P

You keep assuming i identify as a brony or something (probably because it makes it easier for you to brand me an enemy), i don't, i just don't see why it should be accepted to shit on bronies like you and other people in this thread are.

Im going over the top? with what? my less than 10 posts in the whole thread that have been not about defending ponies, but calling out the hypocrisy?

I mean, you're the one who is being repeatedly called out for acting like a jerk in this thread, and not only by me.

It's proof nobody wants to have to see MLP trash. I think we can all agree to that. It wouldn't have ever become low hanging fruit if the fandom didn't make it so.

Except for the bunch of people in this thread who are saying it doesn't bother them and agree the attitude a lot of people here are taking is ridiculous?

Oh and you think that because they're the low hanging fruit they deserve it? welp, by that logic then, for example, any homophobic asshat who uses gay people a as a low hanging punchbag is right to, because "it wouldn't be low hanging fruit if they didn't make so", right?

I'm not shitting on them, I'm telling them to keep their trash in the appropriate pony threads. That they identify with the culture so ridiculously that they take that to mean "shitting on them" is clearly their own problem. There's nothing wrong with liking MLP. There's nothing wrong with being obsessed with it even. Just keep that shit in its appropriate community, because the rest of us don't want to see it. And GAF has already spoken on the subject as a result, which is why the mods have in the past said to keep it there. Because, once again, nobody wants to fucking see that shit but pony obsessives.

Im going over the top? with what? my less than 10 posts in the whole thread that have been not about defending ponies, but calling out the hypocrisy?

You called me angry in my less than 10 posts about the subject in the SU thread. I think it's clear with your BOLD comments that you are annoyed. And you shouldn't be, because I'm simply stating a simple fact. Nobody wants to see it, but pony obsessives. The end

And we've circled the ranch here folks, comparing being a brony with being gay.

Jesus tapdancing christ.

For the record, Amir0x, I've posted MLP stuff in the Steven Universe thread before and since your outburst without negative responses.

If you think that's ridiculous, congratulations, because that's what you sound like. that's the point, you're being ridiculous.

That wasn't your point, but nice attempt in trying to save face after that comically overreaching and offensive attempt to mix terms.

Nobody wants to see the Pony shit but bronies, period. Full stop. The end. If you don't like hearing it, that's tough. You need to deal with reality. That's not ridiculous to simply state the fact. If you can't deal with that reality, the entire community will continue to be difficult for you.

Speaking of Walmart I also worked with another guy that after his shift he would come out of the bathroom all dressed up like the fucking Ironman. This dude everyday would "suit up" in a full plastic helmet, gloves and what I swear was an Ironman pajama top and and just walk around the store for a bit looking for shoplifters. Everyday the store management would tell him it was time to leave and leave the storewalking to LP, but everyday without fail that motherfucker was back at it, all dolled up like the goddamned Ironman ready to fight crime.

God I loved that guy.

He sounds like a god damn hero.

Sure, buddy, you keep doing the whole broken record thing. It's doing wonders for you.

They CLEARLY hate it, they're just not telling you. Probably puking somewhere.

Seriously though, Amirox is just grasping at straws at this point.

It has, because I'm in a thread where people overwhelmingly say keep the MLP shit out of life, and I'm in a community that has told bronies to keep that shit where it's appropriate or else get banned.

I feel good about where we are. I also don't compare being a brony to being gay, so that has to keep me at least a few extra points as well.

I remember a few years ago your stance against the pony fandom wasn't this strong, Amir0x. What happened that made you do such a turn?

What? I got banned once like two years ago for going in a little too hard on the brony jibbing :P

I don't think there's anything wrong with being a brony, I keep saying that. It's fine to be a brony. It's perfect cool to like MLP and be obsessed with it even if that's your thing. I don't have any problem with that. I just reached a point where I was tired of seeing pony shit every other link I clicked in topics for unrelated shows or subjects, like most of GAF did including its mods. It's not something I choose to be a part of, and so I don't want to constantly scroll past those images or click those links. But it's hard not to when it's always being done, so I'm saying keep it in its appropriate communities.

The odd thing is that this is considered somehow being ridiculous or "mean" to the fanbase by some bronies or brony defenders.

It's somewhere in-between vita owners and sonic fans on the scale of questionable hobbies/interests. None of of friends would admit it if they were, because they would get clowned on 24/7.

People keep talking to Amir0x as if he's magically going to transform into a stable human being capable of holding a conversation. Give it up.

Well awesome. What's the problem? You have an entire community for it, and like a zillion fanboy websites and like 98% of the deviantart community. I wouldn't want every topic derailed by MGSV photoshops or Mother photoshops either frankly, so don't think it's personal.

Telling bronies not to show they are bronies in a thread about "do you know any bronies" is so deliciously meta.

So you always show up in threads about bronies to tell them that you don't like seeing bonies. Is the irony here lost on you?

I meant like 5 years ago. Back when you were a mod. Though I guess you had to restrain yourself more in those days. I still remember when Y2kev nuked a thread over a ponified Kratos post, lol. Man, those were the days. Animated avatars and no community. Funny how the ponies were the undoing of both.

I wasn't telling them not to in this thread. But you knew that.

This is a thread about having Brony friends. It is explicitly about discussing the brony community and the problems (or not) people have with it.

This is the only thread on the subject I have ventured into on the matter in years because it is specifically about discussing those terms. But I'm sure you also knew that, and just thought you were making a good point.

confound these ponies, they drive me to drink.

I want to cross-reference the people saying bronies are creepy with people who play Japanese loli games.

Lolli gaf, pop gaf, wrestle gaf, anime gaf, figure gaf, nintendo gaf, sporto-jock gaf, furry gaf, porn gaf, pokemongaf, hell some just straight up junkies ...many more that are slipping my mind right now but all corners of all fandoms have some creepy fucks and all like having something else to point their fingers at to try and make themselves feel better.
It is asinine.

Guys, I really just wanted to know what Bronies were. I didn't intend this to be a thread to shit on other people's hobbies or the shows they like to watch. Watch whatever you wanna watch and like whatever you wanna like.

If a mod is thinking about locking this thread go right ahead please.

I want to cross-reference the people saying bronies are creepy with people who play Japanese loli games.

Why can't both be creepy.

They're both on the same level imo, wouldn't want to know any human who did either.

And honestly there's probably quite a bit of overlap.

My best friend is a Brony. Goes to cons, watches religiously. It doesn't bother me. He's a cool guy, kind and generous, and I like hanging out with him.

Amir0x sure likes to talk about bronies.

*image*

You can pretty much do this for any thread I get into a discussion within, because I take the time to respond to people who respond to me and articulate all my ideas at length. That's just my posting style, not specific to brony-dom as any long time GAFer can assure you. But there is a reason this is the only topic on the subject I've ventured to in years. It's the only one appropriate to voice the concerns about the fandom seeping everywhere.

I don't know, man, watching a cartoon about talking ponies vs someone who wants to play a game about touching underaged girls' breasts seems like a huge leap.

In fairness, if you're talking about some of the extreme "clopper" fans, sure, but that's just a very loud minority in the fandom really.

And I'm sure anime fans to like the proclaim the lolicons are a very loud minority in their fandom.

You'd both be wrong sadly.

I don't think that's fair either. lolicon fans in the anime community are a loud minority, just like those sexually attracted to ponies are a loud minority in the brony community.

You really think it's a majority of these fanbases into these things?

I won't let porn-gaf get slandered like this, porn discussion is the only topic that brings everyone together in calm harmony.

"Seeping everywhere"? Good gods. Sounds like a dangerous thing. I hope other fandoms won't seep as much. Good people like you will be there to voice concerns, though, so we can sleep soundly at night. Otherwise people would be talking about colored horses all over the internet, and we can't have that.
